Chapter 9

1523 Words
After Daniel fell asleep, I tried to go to bed. I tried to fall asleep but my mind wouldn't stop thinking about that stupid letter that was left on the door. I could wrap my brain around any possibilities of reasons to why. So I decided to go for a walk. Just around the pack house. Nothing crazy. I also knew better than to go too far from the pack house because of that letter. As I strolled around the pack house, my thoughts continued to race, making it impossible to find any peace of mind. The mysterious letter had ignited a sense of unease within me, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was amiss. Despite my caution, curiosity began to gnaw at me, tempting me to venture further away from the safety of the pack house in search of answers. We don't know who sent it or why they sent it, and I needed to play it safe. I told Hera to let Ixion know where we were if he were to ask. But other than that, not to disturb him or Daniel. They have already gone through enough today and deserve some peace and quiet. I wanted to ensure their well-being and give them the space they needed to process everything that had happened. It was important for them to have a moment of respite after such a challenging day, considering in just a few hours we would be leaving to go see my parents. I knew that the upcoming visit with my parents would bring its own set of emotions and tensions, so I wanted to make sure Daniel was in a good place before we embarked on that journey. Giving him this time to recharge would help us all approach the visit with a clearer mindset and stronger support for one another. Once I closed the front door to the pack house quietly behind me, I started my walk. So many things were going through my mind. Hera chimed in and really wanted me to let her out to run. I explained to her that we could not do that at this time of night. However, I did promise her that I would let her out once we got to the kingdom. As I cautiously approached the back of the house, a peculiar sense of being watched crept over me. I couldn't shake the feeling that someone, or something, had its eyes fixated on me. My gaze instinctively drifted towards the spot where I had encountered that werewolf just days before. And there it was again, standing at the edge of the tree line, its piercing white eyes glowing in the darkness. This time, however, the wolf maintained its distance and made no attempt to approach me. Yet, an inexplicable familiarity washed over me. It was as if I possessed a deep connection with this creature, even though Hera had never crossed paths with it before. Confident and unafraid, I stood my ground. A surge of curiosity drove me to communicate with this enigmatic being. In a voice that resonated with authority and reverence, I called out to the wolf in a language I had never spoken before and that shocked the hell out of me. To my astonishment, the wolf responded in a similar tone. It revealed itself to be a legendary spirit guardian - an ancient protector of these lands. The guardian explained that it had been observing my actions from afar, assessing whether I was worthy of its trust and guidance. As our conversation unfolded under the moonlit sky, he told me that soon enough secrets were to be unveiled. The guardian shared tales of long-forgotten battles against dark forces and spoke of prophecies that foretold my role in shaping the destiny of our kind. From that moment on, every step I took would be guided by his unspoken guidance that only I would be able to hear. He told me that we were from different worlds who shared an unbreakable bond. I asked him his name and before he could give me an answer, there was a very loud howl that erupted from inside of the house. As soon as I heard it, I knew exactly who it was. My head snapped towards the pack house, where I could clearly see that our bedroom light was on. But when I turned back to the wolf to apologize, he was gone. I hate the fact that I never got to know his name. For some reason, Daniel had woken up, and when he realized I was no longer next to him he must have panicked. “Nevada, I tried to tell Ixion that we were alright, but he is very upset with both of us, and wants me to tell you that you need to get back in the pack house right now!” Even though I really don't take orders from anyone. I knew that the reason for him acting like this was me taking off at the hour I did without telling him anything. I quickly made my way back into the pack house and back up to our bedroom. Once I opened the door to the bedroom, I saw Daniel pacing our bedroom floor with Ixion’s eyes. That was letting me know that he was on the verge of letting him take control. “Nevada!” He roared “What the hell are you thinking? HUH? After the letter that we got today, do you really think that it was smart of you to leave the safety of our pack house like this?” I started to feel heat rise up inside of me. I knew that Orla was begging to be let loose and to show Daniel just who the hell he was talking to. I know he is concerned, but I have proven very well that I can take damn good care of myself and more. “Daniel, I love you and you know that, but you need to watch who the hell you think that you are talking to.” He roared really loudly and then stomped out of the room. He slammed the door behind him. I know that I tend to piss him off when I tell him that, but it is true and he needs to give me a little more credit. I would never have put myself in danger, and even if some kind of danger were to arise I could handle it. Meeting with that creature tonight and after talking with it, I now know that I am highly favored by the Moon Goddess - so much so, that, in fact, I know that the chance of me getting hurt, or even killed, is damn near impossible. I decided not to go after him. I honestly should have told him I needed some fresh air. So I know that he needs his time away right now. I picked up my phone on the nightstand and checked the time. It was 5:30 AM. I couldn't believe that I had been outside that long. It was only 2 when I walked out of the house. Talking with that creature must have made time fly. I decided to take a shower and then to get dressed. I knew that at some point Daniel was going to have to come back to the room to do the same. I knew that I needed to tell him what happened and why I did what I did. I know that he is acting this way because he is actually concerned about something happening to me. And I know that this has to do with Katie dying. Since he and I found each other, he has been so worried about me, even after seeing me do the things that I have done in the kingdom, he still worries like I am some weak human. Communication was key in this situation and I was determined to make things right with him. He must have thought about things because as I finished getting dressed he was walking back into the room with a tray of breakfast. He put it down on the table in our room and walked right up to me. He kissed me on my head and wrapped his arms around me. “I know that you were safe. I just hate that when I woke up you were not there next to me.” I looked up at him and told him that next time I would not go anywhere without telling him. He kissed me on the head again and made his way to the bathroom. He looked at me before he got in there. “I already ate, so make sure you eat, I want to get out of here shortly after.” I nodded and began eating. He always knew what I liked and always brought me the best of the best. Once we were both done with what we were doing, we headed downstairs where Felix and the others were waiting for us. We said goodbye and then off we went to the kingdom.
