3 weeks later…
"This is big." I said nervously, looking at myself in the mirror while Mia adjusted my dress.
"Calm down Mavis. Breathe in, out." Mia said as she finished up with my dress.
Apparently, I was shortlisted as one of the bakers to bake and deliver a huge cake for a charity event that was holding today and it was nothing short of a miracle. This was a huge opportunity and I didn't want to mess up. I was wearing a short red floral dress with a low back. I wore a pair of matching red pumps and a small black purse. My hair was up in a bun with a few strands lose in front. A pair of silver earrings and bracelets to complete the look.
"Make sure you're all tucked in before I'm back." I said to Mia on my way out.
"Fine, now hurry, you'll be late." Mia said pushing me out of the front door.
"Wait! How do I look? Is it too much?" I asked Mia before she could shut the door.
"You look amazing, and no it's not too much. You're going to a gala Mavis."
"To deliver a cake not as a guest."
"Still, it doesn't hurt to look good. Now scurry off, you have a cake to deliver, bye."
"Bye and behave yourself."
"Whatevs!" She replied before shutting the door.

I arrived at the hotel and drove my van towards the back entrance before parking. There was a huge door which had staffs only written on it. I grabbed my purse and keys and stepped down from the van before going into the building.
There were a lot of people walking around. A few chefs, waiters and waitresses here and there. It was a busy place.
"Cake delivery." I said calling the attention of a few of them.
"It's for the event. I am here to deliver it." I explained to them. One of them nodded and ran off to get a huge cake trolley as I led them to the van.
It wasn't long before the cake was taken out of the cold van and into the kitchen. I followed a few of the waiters out of the kitchen and through a beautiful hallway where a few guests stood and I couldn't help but stare. It was decorated beautifully with chairs and flower pots. There was a huge glass window that acted as a barrier between the main hall and this one, meaning you could see the people on the other side of the hall. It all looked breathtaking. The people in fancy outfits, the classical music that played slowly and the beautifully decorated hall. It was like I didn't fit in at all.
"Focus Mavis." I quickly snapped out of my thoughts and concentrated on the cake. It was being taken to the main hall where the event was taking place. I gave a few instructions regarding the cake and was soon on my way out.
I was walking by the hallway again when a waiter approached me with a tray of drinks offering me one.
"Sorry, I don't drink."
"These are mock tails ma'am." He replied and I nodded reaching out for one of the glasses and he moved along. I was just about to take a sip of the drink when I spotted a familiar face in the crowd through the glass. It was Mr. Grumpy.
I felt my fingers tighten into fists almost instantly. I moved along the hallway slowly, looking at him. He was putting on a velvet navy blue tux, black pants and a black bow tie and he had his signature hairstyle on. This was my first time seeing him since the event at the cafe and just thinking about it made me mad. I looked at him one more time and decided to leave. The last thing I wanted was for him to see me here. I walked back in the direction I came and was so caught up in my thoughts when suddenly I collided with someone spilling all the contents of my glass on them. As expected, the cocktail glass fell to the floor shattering into pieces. My purse, key chain and a phone had also fallen down.
"What have you done?" The lady yelled drawing the attention of all the guests in the hallway.
"I...I am so sorry.." I said bending over to pick up the phone.
Definitely wasn’t mine. It looked so expensive, thank God it didn’t break.
I held the phone in my hands and tried to clean off the tiny glass particles that had stuck to its case, when I saw my hand bleeding already.
Ouch!
"Give me that!" A lady beside her said angrily, grabbing the phone from my hand. I quickly bent over to pick up my own things before hiding my bleeding hand.
"Look what you did, you ruined my dress!" She said throwing daggers at me with her eyes.
It was like she had steam bursting out of her ears.
"And I'm so sorry, it was a mistake." I said. I pulled out a small tissue from my purse attempting to wipe of the cocktail on her neck.
"Don't. Touch. Me!" She exclaimed loudly.
"Who are you even? You weren't invited to this event." She asked looking at me closely.
"Forget that. What the hell is she wearing?" The other lady who took the phone asked looking at me in disgust.
"She probably got it from the dollar store." She said and they both laughed.
I looked at them blankly. "Excuse me?"
"What's going on here?" Someone asked from behind me. It was a familiar voice. The one I was running from. I looked at the two women in front of me and her friend, had gone totally mute. I watched her from the corner of eye walk in the opposite direction, probably towards the him.
The pain on my hand was also becoming unbearable and I wanted to leave.
"Look what happened." She feigned a sad voice
I heard his footsteps approach me but before he could arrive I walked away.
Martin’s POV:
"What's going on here?" I asked staring at Diane who I had seen throwing a tantrum from the other side of the glass with her friend and some other lady. Luckily it was sound proof and people on the other side of the hall couldn't hear her but I didn't want the issue to escalate further.
Diane was the daughter of a family friend and an old business partner of my father and he was the one hosting the Charity Gala tonight.
"Look what happened." She said sadly
I slowly approached the lady but before I got there, she walked off.
"Look at what that low life did." Diane said pointing to her dress. I couldn't deal with her right now.
Rather, I glanced over at the floor to see pieces of a broken cocktail glass and a few drops of blood. My eyes quickly returned to the retreating figure of the lady and I took a closer look at her. Her right hand was covered in red. She was injured.
"I'm right here Martin." Diane said. I turned to face her, giving her a cold glare.
"Do you need anything Diane?" I asked
She gave me a sheepish look. "My dress is ruined."
"And I don't carry clothes around. Go change into something else." I said before walking off.
