Chapter One
Chapter One
Humility. It’s a word many people would use to describe my family. We are known to be a powerful family based on reverence and modesty. And, I am the predecessor of my family’s name and power.
I obviously have the honor of my family’s name over my head. It follows me everywhere. My dad reminds me of this all the time. He reminds me every morning, and even lectures me on the way I should be acting in front of the public eye.
He also says with my powers still yet to be honed in and to approve upon my lack of control he’s decided to send me to Odrogen Academy. A school where many other citizens go to hone the skills.
I wasn’t exactly excited to be joining many others in this school. I was usually home schooled, just like the rest of my siblings. My only guess as to why I was being transferred amongst people who aren’t as capable as me, is that my dad wants me to gain connections. For the sake of our family name. You’ll hear me state that a lot, because it’s basically the only thing my dad cares about.
I would have complained to my dad about this choice of his, but he already had my stuff packed and ready in one of the many dorm rooms the school offered for their students. That’s where I was headed now. To introduce myself to someone who probably is just a weakling with no capability in becoming a strong Sorcerer or Warlock. Or one of the many other things this school provides as an education.
The limo stopped in front of the girl’s dorm and I headed to room 314 while the chauffeur handled my bags. I unlocked the door and headed inside. To my surprise the dorm room was spacious and had its own living room and kitchen.
Walking into the kitchen, I let my hand glide across the marble countertops and took a moment to take in the layout. This place was more modern than I had anticipated. It even had a living room. This school really wants to impress the parents of their students, that much I could see.
I left the kitchen and headed toward the hallway that probably leads to the bedrooms. All the doors in the hallway had name plates on them, all except the last door. So, I supposed this was my room.
Swinging the door open, I was met with the smell of lavender and a room decked out in white and purple. The bed was already filled with plush pillows and had a purple comforter on it. For a second I shut the door, because it seemed like it wasn’t my room. I checked the other rooms just in case, but was met with the belongings of my roommates.
Looks like the school treats all of their students like gods. I walked into the lavender room with my luggage. Ok, so if I didn’t like the school at first, I guess I’m starting to like it now. After unpacking the rest of my luggage I walked to the living room. It was nice had some bean bag chairs and a couch that occupied the majority of its space. I laid across the couch and turned the TV on.
It was 10:00 so my roommates and all other occupants of the school were already in class. The school called earlier today to inform me that I would be starting school tomorrow. I had to wait until lunch break before I would meet any of my roommates. Vellity was my peer who was supposed to be showing me around during that time. So, I guess I would just have to wait until then for the tour.

“Elowen, I think you should back up,” a soft voice cut through the air.
“But I want to see her up close,” the latter replied. “I heard she’s got a rich family.”
I could feel the presence of someone leaning into to me. I must have fallen asleep while waiting for my tour guide, Vellity, to get here. Opening my eyes, I sat up and faced two bickering girls in front of me.
They ceased their arguing when they noticed that I was awake. The girl with short, black hair stepped up and gave me a bright smile.
“Hi, I’m Elowen, it’s so exciting to have new roommate!” Elowen exclaimed. She then pointed at the second person, who was a slightly taller girl with red hair. “And that is Vellity.” Ah, so she was my tour guide. I watched as Vellity gave a shy wave.
“Yeah, it’s great to make your acquaintance, but do you think you could show me around,” I stated. I know, I know, I sounded kind of rude but I’ve been waiting on them forever. Vellity gave me an apologetic look and motioned toward the door.
“Of course, I can show you around right now,” Vellity gave me another shy smile. I nodded and got up from the couch.
“Oooh, I want to join you guys too,” Elowen said as she walked out the door. I just sighed and followed behind Vellity. I can already tell Elowen’s energetic personality was going to get old. Really quick.
Elowen was in the middle of a deep story, one about how she went on this hunting trip with her five older brothers and encountered a corrupt Willow. The story itself was great, it had me on the edge of my non-existent-seat, while Vellity showed me around the school. Afterall, Willows weren’t easy to fend off. They were these huge, gangly creatures that hid in the wood and came out only to inflict harm on it’s targets. They are highly destructive, and I kind of had a newfound appreciation for Elowen now that I knew she had the potential of being something great.
“It’s pretty amazing how you were able to fend a Willow off,” I stated, my excitement came off in waves. “Not many people can do that, so I guess you’re kinda advanced.”
Vellity snickered a little, “She actually is advanced...well...when it comes to combat she is.”
Elowen puffed out her chest in a prideful way and nodded her head. I was kind of surprised. Elowen was such a tiny girl, yet she could have so much fight in her. She really was amazing.
“So, what are the people like in this school?” I questioned. Might as well know what type of people I’m up against. Vellity gave me a small glance and slowed to a stop in front of our dorm room. She headed inside and plopped down on one of the many bean bags in the room. I claimed the sofa and rested my head on the arm.
Vellity hummed a little before replying, “There are a lot of stuck up, and prideful people here. And, I mean, it’s bad. There are people here who will knock you down a notch.”
Elowen knodded at Vellity’s statement and jumped up. She pointed at me with a smug look. “I’ll make sure nobody messes with you tomorrow, and you’ll surely sit next to us at lunch.” Nodding in agreement, I got up and yawned. “Yeah, but I feel like sleeping right now, good night guys.”
Vellity and Elowen shared their goodnights and followed me to the bedrooms. I plopped onto my bed and closed my eyes. My roommates weren’t as bad as I thought they were gonna be. Maybe I could even spar with Elowen one day. Just the thought of the made me excited to see how my life will be now that I get to have a public education.
My eyelids got heavier as I watched the night sky turn darker and I fell into a dream filled land of, well, dreams.
