Chapter3

“You’re lying! I don’t believe a word you’re saying. "Let me go!” I screamed, struggling desperately against my restraints. My voice quivered with fear—I was terrified, consumed by panic. “You don’t need to believe me now. "You will, in time,” Alpha Darius replied coldly, gesturing dismissively. Take her away. I have a coronation to finish and a pack to claim.” I resisted with everything I had—as if my very life depended on it, because it did. Being handed over to that monster was as good as being sentenced to death. But that wasn’t even the worst part. I had to warn my parents, tell them the truth before it was too late. And the worst realization of all—I had unintentionally made our pack a target. I had failed as the Luna heir… and I would carry that guilt to my grave. “Mark my words, Darius!” I shouted with fury as they dragged me away. If even a single part of my pack is harmed, I won’t forgive this. Even if it takes another lifetime, I’ll find you—and you will pay for everything!” My threats fell on deaf ears, but I didn’t stop. I kept shouting, filled with rage and an unrelenting thirst for vengeance. Every word I spoke came from the deepest part of my soul. From that moment on, my only purpose in life was revenge—no matter what it took. In a few minutes, I was tied up, and a handkerchief was placed to cover my eyes. I was bundled into a truck despite my protest. Please. At some point when we started moving, I fell silent and accepted my fate. I could only hope that my death would be quick and painless. Many hours passed. I couldn't tell where we were, but by my calculation, it was already dark outside. We were so far away from home, I couldn't help but wonder how I would be able to return if I got a chance to escape. I had to push those thoughts to the back of my mind when the truck suddenly pulled to a stop. “Alright, guys, quickly take her in so we can get out of here”, I heard one of the men say. “Taken her in? Do you want us dead?” “Why us? What happened to you? “I can't go into that scary place. I have a feeling I won't come back out alive” The other three men refused with excuses. They were warrior wolves, but the fear in their voices was evident. Everyone was afraid of the Lycan of death… I didn't know how to feel about the fact that I was to be with such a monster in captivity for goddess knows how long, maybe till death. The first man released a sigh, and I heard myself get down from the truck. Suddenly, my blindfold was ripped off my face, and so was the rope tying my legs; only the one tying my hands was left on. “You see this pathway? Follow it till you get to that gate and go in. "We will be right here watching you, no funny business,” the man instructed, pointing at the narrow road directly in front of us. The short road was overgrown with trees, shrubs and whatnot. It was a badly kept area, and the flickering light outside made it look even more abandoned and haunted. Was this where the Lycan King stayed? I knew there was no point begging; it was just prolonging the inevitable, so I gulped and began walking whilst saying a prayer in my heart. I walked onto the road, and when I glanced back, I saw the men watching and urging me to continue. My heart was thumping wildly in my chest as I got to the gate. I inhaled and exhaled deeply before slowly pushing the gate open and stepping in. It was dark but with a few lamp posts, I could see the gigantic mansion ahead and the vast compound surrounding it. Everything was a mess and abandoned, and I began to doubt someone actually stayed here. I turned to glance back, and the men were still there, urging me to close the gate and go inside further, which I did. I had walked a few metres with no sign of a living being, and when I turned to look outside, I couldn't see any sign of the men again. They must have left. Wasn't this an opportunity to turn back and leave too? I decided quickly and turned around to make my way out of this scary place when I heard it. A growl that sent chills down my spine. I have never heard anything so primal, so raw… I didn't want to look back. Maybe if I ran fast enough, I would be out of here before it could get to me. So I began sprinting with my hands tied, but I could barely get a few steps in when it appeared in front of me with the speed of light. It was huge, two times bigger than the size of an alpha wolf. I felt like an ant compared to a mountain. It had thick black fur that appeared glossy under the light, its eyes a maroon red that had bloodlust over it. It was the Lycan King, the infamous Lycan of Death. It prowled forward like a predator stalking his prey and I unconsciously stepped back. I didn't know what to do. He seemed to be out of it, unable to distinguish between human and food. I knew if care was taken, I would be his next kill. He suddenly released another fierce growl and showed me his long canines. He was impatient and I wasn't going to stand there and watch him get to them. I kicked my feet into action and began running to nowhere in particular but nowhere far away from him. The panic rushing through my ears and my heart ready to leap out of my chest didn't stop me. I seemed to have made him angrier. He began chasing me at lightning speed, but I just kept running. In about 20 steps, I felt something heavy pounce on me and I let out a scream as I fell to the ground. He had lunged at me and was on top of me now, his weight didn't even give me space to thrash around. “Please, don't kill me, please”, I pleaded as my last resort, tears already running down my eyes. I didn't want to die like this… The beast released a grunt and howled. Then, he opened his mouth wide in a kill stance. My begging was useless. I closed my eyes, ready to accept my fate. But seconds ticked by, and it never came… I opened to see the beast groaning and shifting, his size shrunk, and his beastly features disappeared to reveal a tall handsome man in all his naked glory. I watched him speechlessly as he got off me and picked up a long blue coat lying on the steps nearby which he used to disguise himself. He then came to stand in front of me and offered a hand to me. “You must be Lyra. I'm Dimitri” his voice was deep and scarily enchanting. His eyes were icy blue, but I could see hints of maroon red dancing in between. I felt my wolf purr and yip excitedly as she muttered “Mate” at the back of my mind!
