Chapter 4

I screamed in terror, jerking away from his touch as I scrambled to my feet. Panic overwhelmed me, and without thinking, I tried to run. My mind was in chaos—just moments ago, I’d been on the verge of death, and now my wolf was calling this monster *mate*. The thought alone was enough to drive me insane. I needed to get away from here. I *had* to. “I’m leaving…” I whispered under my breath, barely aware I’d spoken aloud. I wasn’t in control anymore—I was completely disoriented. But I barely made a step before I felt his hand seize mine. With one forceful yank, he pulled me back, and suddenly, he was only inches from me. I struggled, pleaded—desperate to escape. Dimitri let out a low, threatening growl that instantly silenced me. His hot breath brushed against my face, sending a shiver down my spine. “And where do you think you’re going?” he asked, his voice rough and slurred with alcohol. “Did I say you could leave?” I swallowed hard, a soft whimper escaping me at how close he was. “I… I…” I tried to speak, but the words just wouldn’t come. His presence overwhelmed me—terrifying, yet disturbingly intoxicating. Why was I feeling this strange pull toward him, even as every instinct screamed to run? He bared his sharp fangs, and his eyes flickered between their usual icy blue and a deep, haunting maroon—locked in a battle with whatever curse haunted him. Has he always been like this? I wondered. “I what?!” he roared. “You belong to me now, remember? "I own you, so you listen to me” His voice made me flinch. Tears were already rolling down my face freely. It must have been a mistake. He couldn't be my mate; it just doesn't make any sense. I wonder if he knew it too… “Your room is the first room to your left upstairs. "Go!” he ordered with a firm voice and I didn't need him to say it twice before sprinting into the mansion. I needed to think of my next line of action. One thing was for sure: I would go crazy if I had to spend another night here. Surprisingly, inside the mansion was much neater than the outside, but I could barely pay any attention to it. I had quickly located my room and slammed the door shut. The first thing I did was to burst into tears. What was my offence to the moon goddess? What did I do to deserve such a fate? My first mate was an outsider of the pack who turned around to stab me in the back, and I was barely recovering when I found my second mate, who turned out to be a beast who knew no language apart from killing and who was in cahoots with my first mate to attack my pack. It was just so complicated that I was beginning to think I wasn't meant to have a happy ending with my fated mate. I cried till there were no more tears left to cry, and as if the heavens sympathized with me, it began raining heavily that night. When I had cried to my fill, I began to think of a way forward. I peered into the dark night from my room window, and thankfully, I could see the gate leading out of the compound from there. All I needed to do was get out through there and be free from my captor. I would figure out a way home afterwards. The main problem was leaving, and I had a feeling that if I couldn't leave now, then it would be harder to leave later. I decided to wait a bit till it was well into midnight before I could put my plan into action. I calculated that by that time, he could have fallen asleep. Soon, it was a few minutes to 1am, and I agreed that it was time. Thankfully, the rain was there to drown out the noise as I carefully opened the door and stepped out. I tiptoed as quietly as possible till I was successfully out of the mansion. There was no sign of Dimitri, and I was beginning to feel hopeful. Following the path I had mapped out, I began making my way to the gate despite the rain drenching me. The closer I got to the gate, the more hopeful I was. Deep down, it felt too easy, but I didn't care. I could see the flickering lamp post by the gate and my legs voluntarily quickened to get there. Then I suddenly hit a brick wall and the impact made me fall to the ground. Where did that wall come from? Why didn't I see it before? I shook my head and looked up, and I was welcomed by a pair of bluish red eyes. My heart dropped in fear. I had been caught by my captor. “You are a stubborn little thing, aren't you? You like to defile me. Well, I'll have to punish you for that '' His voice was even more sinister and scary on the dark rainy night and there was this eerie feeling about it that made my skin crawl. He suddenly grabbed my two hands together with one of his large hands and pulled me up roughly. He began dragging me with minimal effort towards the direction of the mansion. “Please, please, I beg of you. "Let me go, please… my family, my pack is in danger” I pleaded repeatedly as I followed him unwillingly. He didn't say a word, he didn't even look at me, he kept dragging me till we got into the mansion. He took me up the stairs and instead of stopping at my room door, he took me to another room that was opposite mine. He opened the door and turned on the light before stepping in with me. The room was just like my room, except there was a human-sized cage by the side of the room. Immediately, I saw it, my stomach filled with dread, and I fell to my knees. “Please, Sir Dimitri. I promise not to try to leave again. I just need you to help me stop Nero from attacking my pack or if you refuse to help, he won't be able to succeed. "I will stay here forever willingly if you could help me” I pleaded profusely with a heavy downpour of tears running down my cheeks. I was sacrificing my dignity to beg him so lowly, but at this point, I was out of options. I had brought my pack into this mess, and it was my duty as the cause and Luna's heir to fix it. Dimitri's face was stone-cold, he pulled me to the cage and opened it. Then he said in a plain tone, “Not helping him is a breach of the transaction we made and I am not one to go back on my promises. Besides, you have no choice but to stay here as long as I will, so whether it is voluntary or not from your end is none of my business” Then he pushed me into the cage and slammed the cage gate shut and pressed a padlock to lock it. His response had disoriented me for a second but succeeded in igniting the fire in me a second later. I was furious that he was treating me like a mere object with no opinions of my own. Who does he think he is? I refuse to be anybody's property. “If that's the case then get ready, because I am going to make life a living hell for you if you dare to touch my pack, all of you” I fired back with glazed eyes. Over my dead body will anybody dare to harm my pack. OVER MY DEAD CARCASS.
