The Girl Who Was Born Cursed.
Chapter 1: The Girl Who Was Born Cursed
Marian was born on a stormy night, and the village midwife whispered that the sky itself was weeping. By the time Marian turned five, everyone understood why. Her mother fell ill first, then her grandmother. Within a year, the house that once echoed with laughter had fallen silent.
The elders said it was a curse, an old one, passed down through blood. Anyone who loved Marian would slowly wither and die. So the villagers kept their distance, and Marian learned to live alone.
She grew up watching other children play from behind a window. She never touched anyone, never let anyone close. Love, to her, was not a gift. It was a sentence.
Then, on the morning of her twentieth birthday, a stranger arrived in the village. His name was Daniel. He knocked on her door, smiled, and said, "They told me not to come here. I wanted to see for myself why."
Marian should have closed the door. She knew she should. But for the first time in her life, someone was looking at her without fear.
"You should leave," she said softly.
Daniel only shook his head. "I've never been good at doing what I'm told."
And just like that, the curse began to stir again.
