The brokenheart
Chapter 1 My name is Bella Carvey, and once upon a time, I was the happiest woman alive. While deaf, my life had been one huge blessing after seemingly perfect: the vivacious company handed down by my grandmother, a loving husband, Simmon, and a best friend, Julie I'd trusted them with my life. My world appeared safe, cocooned in the love and care of the people closest to me. Now, the reality is grim how I had been living a sham, a very well-blue-printed illusion, with the express aim of breaking my resolve. Simmon, my husband, the prosperous businessman, had also been one who aorolls me in love and care. I thought he loved me, but now it turns out that love was only a ruse he had used as a cover. And Julie, who was one of those I had always looked up to as a sister and my best friend turned out to be the most treacherous of them all. The two ladies had ganged up against me and plotted my murder several times. They had made off with everything that I had owned. I was unaware because I am deaf. They used my disability as an excuse to talk to me in low tones and assured me that I would never know what hit me when they disposed of their next wicked move. They claimed to be my support systems but were stabbing me in the back with sharpened knives. It was on that night of my birthday party that I had unknowingly entered the skeletal framework of their schemed conspiracy. It was a very grand party, with all of my company's employees present. All of them were very happy about the occasion and were laughing and enjoying themselves. The evening was progressing well when I thought to make a surprise announcement. I stood before the guests, Simmon by my side, smiled warmly, and said, "Thank you all for coming tonight. I am truly grateful for all your support and kindness. Most importantly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank my lovely husband, who has been my absolute rock in this company, helping me so very much. But now, I have some wonderful news to share I'm pregnant." The room burst into a round of applause, and I could see actual joy on everyone's faces. All but Simmon and Julie. My husband's normally charming face paled into shock, and I watched, mortified, as Julie's smile seemed to falter. Both tried to mask their discomfort, but I saw it, a glimmer of something dark beneath the surface of a forced smile. Julie made a quick excuse and left the table to use the washroom, and Simmon, appearing quite uncomfortable, followed her excuse, excusing himself and went to check on something on the upper floor. Some strange oddity about their demeanor was far too peculiar to not have my suspicions gnaw at my heart. For the first time, I felt that small, unsightly c***k in that world I had believed in so dearly. Curiosity gnawed at me, and some moments later, I could be at a decision to go up the stairs. A few steps nearer, I could hear their muffled, intense voices. I had moved closer, straining to hear, but they had noticed my footsteps and abruptly stopped their conversation. When I entered the room, they were standing apart, acting as if nothing had happened, but I knew better. My heart raced with fear, but I had no idea how deep their betrayal ran. The next day, on my way home from the office, my car broke down on a bridge. I tried calling for help but before I could do anything the vehicle jerked tremendously and landed me in the freezing waters below; the next thing I was aware of was the cold water shutting over me and then. blackness. I finally awoke in the strangest place of all, where a kind stranger had seen my car off the bridge. But something else had changed something miraculous. I could hear. The accident had somehow restored my hearing. I went home at the first opportunity, eager to see Simmon and tell him what had happened, but when I arrived, there I found something that shattered my already broken heart into a million pieces. There, in our bedroom, I distinctly heard the cold and venomous voice of Julie: "Why didn't she die? What is she still doing here? Bella needs to die. I must kill her." My blood ran cold. The people I loved most were not only betraying me, but they wanted me dead. I realized then that my accident wasn't just bad luck, it was a deliberate attempt at ending my life. Through it all I was supposed to have drowned, to be out of the way for good. But, since I was very much alive, and hearing now, well, I took it all in. I didn't throw it back in their faces then. I just bided my time, acting like I was still deaf as a post. I had to have time to learn more, to see just what their little games amounted to. I got to the kitchen, trying to internalize the weight of their betrayal. It hurt so much in my heart, and the tears flowed down my face, but I kept strong. The next moment, I heard them plotting quietly, deciding to strike again as nobody would know that I had come back in. That evening, I left the house on a slight trip to my company. I wished to come back as proof to everyone that I was still alive and succeed in ruining whatever plans Simmon and Julie had devised. Finally reaching back home, Simmon pretended to ask me what had happened and where I had gone.I lied in return and said that It was something urgent that I needed to attend to. That day, I went home sleepless. My mind puzzled over how I was to get to him. Simmon and Julie had taken all my love and trust and twisted it into something monstrous. They had to pay for it, but first, I needed more evidence. I had to let them go on thinking I was still deaf and take them unawares, hence, revealing all their secrets. Simmon began to grow suspicious that I had regained my hearing. He did things like speaking very softly or from behind me to test me, but I never flinched. Julie, also, tried to catch me out with little traps set to see if I would react. However, I was quite alert and thus continued playing the part well. As I lay in bed that night, gazing at the ceiling, I made a promise to myself. No longer would I be the victim of their mean games. I would turn the tables on them, and they would, in good time, regret ever crossing me. They couldn't just walk away after breaking my heart because I was going to make them pay. And when I was done with them, they would know the true meaning of p ain.
