"Come to Moonlight Bar." The voice that was as cold as the north pole instantly said, not waiting for Eula to finish her greeting.
"But w…" Eula hadn't even finished her sentence when the man on the other end of the phone disconnected the call.
With a gloomy look, she put the phone away from her ear and looked at its screen, which was totally devoid of any light. The phone in her hand represents what she was feeling right now; dark and gloomy, without hope of experiencing what she had truly desired the most in her entire life.
A deep sigh escaped from her lips before she placed the last piece of clothing inside her bag and closed it. She looked at the room where she had stayed for eight years. It would be a lie if she said she wouldn't miss her own room; after all, she had spent many years in her familiar room. The room where she was staying experienced all the joys and sadness of life together with her.
The room that had seen everything that had happened to her in the past eight years of being married to Jeremy Evans was where she would run to and ask for comfort whenever she was lonely and sad. The only place where she could find consolation in the house that was bare of any emotions.
But now, she had to leave the place, her comfort zone, and the only place where she could cry all she wanted. Her eyes started to mist as she looked at every corner of the room; Eula knew she would miss the place, and if there was any other choice, she would never leave such a place where she had already gotten comfortable.
However, Eula knew she had to leave; if she wanted to have a better future for her child and peaceful life free from the scorns and judging eyes of everyone, then she must face it bravely.
With one last look, she left her room; her steps didn't falter as she descended the stairs, and without turning back, she left the house that had only caused her loneliness for the last eight years.
She didn't use the car she had driven earlier; instead, she used public transportation. After all, it was Jeremy's car, and now that she had signed her signature on the divorce papers, all of his properties would solely belong to him. However, Jeremy's signature was still not affixed on the paper together with her signature. But Eula already considers that they had finally separated since she could guess that Jeremy would sign those papers without hesitation when he saw what those stack of documents were.
With a bag in hand, Eula decided to walk towards the familiar path where people would wait for a bus. She chose not to head to where her ex-husband had told her to come. If it was in the past and Jeremy would call her first, she would feel elated; she wouldn't even mind that her husband would hang up first without hearing her reply. But now it was different, though she still wanted to rush to his side now that he had called her first. Eula controlled herself and reminded her foolish self that she had a life in her stomach, and going inside a bar with a strong smell of alcohol enveloping the whole place might harm her baby more than it might do any good for her.
She must always remind herself that it would not be all about her now, but it would be the life she was carrying inside her stomach.
The tears she had tried to hold started to flow like waterfalls down her face as she was soon seated on the public transportation seat. She didn't mind the curious stares given to her by the bus's passengers.
"Are you alright?" Eula felt that someone had occupied the vacant seat on her side. She then looked the person's way when she heard her ask a question.
Eula doesn't know how to reply to the question that was asked her way. Should she answer honestly, or should she just give an answer that could satisfy the stranger's curiosity? She doesn't know what to do now; she is experiencing the most significant decision in her life, and her thoughts are blank now.
But looking at the woman's expectant gaze on her, Eula's heart moved a little, and a smile escaped from her lips. She then wiped the tears on her face, seeing the unmoving gaze of the woman against her; Eula couldn't help but chuckle.
"To be honest, I'm not," Eula answered truthfully. She doesn't know why but the moment she laid eyes on the woman's facial expression, she couldn't help but be drawn to the woman's gentle looks.
"And why is that? Don't tell me you also got scammed by those crazy jerks in the mall last week?!" The woman couldn't help but shout, believing that Eula was also scammed like her.
The passengers looked their way to see what the commotion was all about. When the woman realized they had become the center of attention, the woman hid her face, which had become beet red due to embarrassment.
Eula apologized to the passengers and looked at the woman, who looked like a turtle hiding inside her shell.
"They're not looking in our way now," Eula announced as she gave a slight nudge to her seatmate.
"Are you sure they aren't looking my way already?" The woman asked for a confirmation.
"Yes, they're already back to their own business." With a chuckle, Eula answered the woman truthfully. She couldn't help but squeal inside due to how cute the woman was acting in front of her.
The woman slightly took a peak at her surroundings, like a shy turtle that was taking a peak at its shell, trying to see whether there was still danger lurking around or not. The woman heaved a sigh of relief when she realized that Eula had told her the truth.
"Care to share how you were scammed?" Eula was curious about how such a wonderful lady was suddenly scammed.
"This is going to be embarrassing but promise me you wouldn't laugh at me." There was a pleading look in the woman's eyes as she gazed at Eula. Those eyes speak different emotions in them. The smile on the woman's lips contrasted with the story that the woman's eyes were telling.
"This woman is also like me," Eula said to herself when she saw the eyes of the woman that totally reflected her own.
Eula just nodded as if telling the woman that she wouldn't laugh at whatever story she would say to her.
The woman then took a deep breath and told how she was scammed.
As Eula heard the woman's story, she couldn't help but feel a sense of camaraderie in her. Their life story was almost identical except for getting her money scammed.
Like her, the woman was also pregnant, and the baby's father inside her stomach didn't love her. It was a one-sided love, just like her.
"So, what are you going to do now?" Eula asked as she wanted to know the woman's next step now that she was carrying a life in her stomach.
"I'm thinking of going back to my parents to ask forgiveness from them," the woman explained with a thin smile. Nervousness couldn't be hidden from the woman as she fidgetted with her hands, seemingly nervous about her parent's reaction. "If they won't accept my forgiveness, then I wouldn't have a choice but to sleep on the streets. I guess?"
Eula could see that the woman's façade was beginning to crumble as she remembered her parents. Eula doesn't know whether she should feel lucky that her parents had long gone or be sad because there was now no one by her side to tell her what she should do.
"Here, take this." After a minute of silence, Eula took the ring off her finger, which symbolizes that she was a person tied to Jeremy, and gave it to the woman beside her.
"Why are you giving me your wedding ring?" The woman asked, bewildered as to why she had given a precious wedding ring to a total stranger.
"If your parents don't accept you back, then you could pawn it and use the money to start a new life," Eula said as she looked at the ring on the woman's hand.
"But this is important to you. I couldn't accept this thing." The woman tried to give it back to Eula, but Eula just shook her head.
"It won't be of any use to me anymore; after all, I have already divorced my husband." Eula gave a small smile to the woman as if telling the woman that she needed not to feel sorry for her.
"And it would be much more useful to you than having me throw it in the trash." Eula continued when she saw the reluctance in the woman's eyes.
"Thank you. Can I perhaps ask the name of my savior?" The woman asked as she looked at the ring on her hand's palm.
"Eula Sanders," Eula replied. She used her original family name rather than using her husband's family name since, from now on, she wouldn't be part of the Evans anymore.
"I'm Irish Morrison," the woman introduced herself as she closed her palm with the ring on it and looked at Eula. "Then, if fate allows it and we would see each other again, I would make sure to repay what you have given me a hundred-fold."
"Then, I'm going to wait for it." She then smiled at Irish before turning her head to look at the scenery in the window.
She doesn't know why but when she had given her ring to Irish, there was no feeling of grief in it; instead, there was only complete peacefulness in her heart. She doesn't know what it means, but she was glad she could let go of things quickly; perhaps this could be a sign that she could also forget Jeremy Evans easily.
"I hope this time around you will have your happy ending."
