Eula wanted to laugh at herself. She couldn't believe she had remembered such a ridiculous past. If it was a few years back, she would have acted like a teenage girl who was in love when she remembered the time her and Jeremy's paths started to cross. But now, there was no sense of excitement; not even those fluttering of the heart remained. What was only left was the feeling of disgust for herself.
She had been foolish not to notice that those act of kindness coming from Jeremy wasn't only solely from her. Those gentle looks weren't at all exclusively for her and what was worst was that those warm smiles that could warm up her spirits were just a perfunctory smile he would give strangers he would pass by in the streets. The kind of smile he would give to those people he would deem insignificant in his life.
Realizing that she couldn't control her emotions, Eula parked the car she was driving on the sides and tried to control her emotions by breathing in and out deeply. But no matter what she does, the painful experiences she had over the years with Jeremy start flooding her mind. Like an angry typhoon that was adamant about breaking her defenses and making her defenseless.
Not being able to control herself, she punched the car's steering wheel hard enough that she could feel the pain in her knuckles. She continued beating the steering wheel while tears flowed down her eyes. She didn't mind that her hands had become red enough with all the punching. Eula doesn't care since the pain in her hands was not as great as the pain she was experiencing in her heart.
"Is it because I'm pregnant that I'm suddenly becoming too emotional?" She whispered to herself as she placed her arms in her head and leaned back on her seat to relax her nerves.
When she had felt that she had calmed down a little, Eula looked at the time and was utterly surprised when she had spent a lot of time inside her car. Eula thought that she had spent only a couple of minutes but was shocked to have learned that she had already wasted two hours inside the vehicle.
She hurriedly started the engine and drove her way towards the familiar road leading to her home. It didn't take long for her to arrive at the entrance of their home. Eula stands idly in front of the door, seemingly undecided whether to open the door or not. She stayed rooted in her place for a couple of minutes, uncertain of what she ought to do at the moment.
When she had finally gotten the courage to face her fear, she slowly turned the knob of the door and slowly made her way inside. What greeted her was the still familiar place, a place that looked like no one was residing with how bare it looked.
It was supposed to be their home, a place which she had pictured for it to be filled with happy memories. But alas, it looks like bad luck was on her side since instead of a warm and joyous house, it was utterly lonely and cold; desolate to be exact. No trace of her husband could be seen in the place, and Eula sometimes asked herself if she was only disillusioned and that she was not truly married at all. But the glint of the cold gold ring on her ring finger made her get back to her senses and tell her that she was indeed a married woman.
A woman married to a man who doesn't even love her back.
A sarcastic smile escaped her lips while she slowly made her way to their supposed bedroom, but only she was using that said room.
"What should I expect," she muttered as she entered the bedroom. "Eula, have you not learned your lesson? All those years you've been together, when was the time the both of you shared the same room?"
A laugh was soon heard that had a trace of sadness and regret throughout the room, and soon loud wails followed as if the person was suffering from great pain. She slowly made her way to her personal drawer and took out a stack of paper from it. Eula turned to the last page of the document, and then with a heavy heart, she signed on the endmost page of the document.
The paper she had signed was none other than the divorce agreement she had gotten five months ago. She never thought she would have the courage to sign the divorce papers in her whole life, but now that a new life was budding inside her stomach, Eula decided to end everything between her and Jeremy.
She doesn't want her child to experience growing up in a home wherein there was no warmth and love. It was okay if she was the one experiencing all those with Jeremy, but now that she had a child that she could call her own. She was not willing to compromise for the happiness of her own child.
After signing the divorce agreement, she looked at the paper in a daze for a couple of minutes. Her all too familiar signature placed on the paper would be the first step to freeing her and Jeremy from this marriage. The moment when Jeremy would place his sign next to her would be the time when their marriage would ultimately end.
Taking a last look at the paper, she placed it inside the envelope and started packing her things. Eula only packed the things she had bought when she had first stepped into this house, and the rest was left behind. She doesn't need those expensive things given to her by Jeremy. The so-called gifts he gave her throughout their years of being married together, she all knew that it was not even Jeremy who had brought it. Instead, it was his secretary who had bought it since he had grown pity on her.
"Are you pitiable enough, Eula, that even his secretary would lie to you about the gifts?"
A hint of ridicule flashed through her eyes. Eula remembered how she would be over the moon when she would receive gifts from her husband. How proud she was every time he would send her a gift for their anniversary.
Even though he could not come to their anniversary, at least he would still compensate by giving her expensive-looking gifts every anniversary that happen, but later she came to know that those gifts given to her were not something her husband had personally brought. He doesn't even know what items were sent to her inside those gift wraps.
"Truly pitiable."
She was in deep pity for herself when suddenly the loud sound phone got her back to her senses.
Eula was surprised when she saw the name registered on the phone. Never in her entire married life would she dream that her husband would call her first.
She would truly feel happy in the past if she received a single call from her husband, just like now, but now only a trace of indifference flashed on her face.
"Hello..."
