CHAPTER 002

SOPHIE'S POINT OF VIEW When I was sitting at the same table as the man who had just yelled at me in the center of the cafe, I did not feel comfortable. He was impolite, and I did not appreciate individuals who were impolite. Because of this, I completely disregarded him and focused my attention on the young girl who was standing in front of me. It seemed as though she had no worry in the world as she chattered away, brimming with vitality. That aspect of her appealed to me. She was really cute, and I have always had a soft spot for children. To put it simply, there was something about their purity that caused my heart to melt. I will be right back, Sweet Pie. I promise. A man wearing a dark blue shirt and a black leather jacket stated, "I have to take this call first," before standing up and leaving the cafe. "I apologize for the inconvenience." As he went away, I let out a sigh of fulfillment and relief. "You do not like my dad?" Suddenly, the young lady inquired while c*****g her head to the side and looking at me. My face was scrutinized by her large eyes. Before providing a response, I paused for a brief moment. I said with a slight smile, "It is not like that," and I meant it. "As long as I like you, that is all that matters." Seeing it made her smile. She delighted in putting a mouthful of ice cream into her mouth and jamming it in. In spite of the fact that it was all over her face, she did not appear to care. To be able to go through life without having to worry about anything was the nicest part of being a child. It made me laugh. "Look at your messy face." I reached into my purse and took out a handkerchief, which I then used to delicately wipe around her lips. Despite the fact that her hands were still busy digging into her ice cream, she laughed at my touch. "You really love ice cream, don't you?" I inquired about it. Excitedly, she gave a nod. It is without a doubt the greatest! Please tell me about your favorite flavor. "Strawberry," I responded without giving it any thought. The expression on her face changed. "Same!" As she cheered, she raised her hand in the air. "Give me five!" After giving her a pinch on the cheek, I smiled and reached out to take her little hand in mine. She had an adorable appearance. She took a little pause and looked around before continuing. I'm sorry, but I don't see your mother. "Did you come by yourself?" I saw that her smile vanished almost immediately. My heart sank to it. I ought not to have inquired about that. Please accept my apologies, princess. I instantly added, "I should not have brought that up in the first place." Her eyes became less intense. "She is no longer here. I am not like other people in that I do not have a mother. I felt a tightening in my chest as I heard the grief in her words. An excessive number of times had I been exposed to the very same remarks. During my time as a volunteer at an orphanage, the children there frequently expressed the same sentiment. I reached out and grabbed her, bringing her petite body into my embrace and softly caressing her back. "I am so sorry to hear that," I mumbled in a low voice. "However, do you know what? I have no doubt that your mother is looking down on you from heaven. She is aware of you, she is heard by you, and she loves you very much. She encircled me with her tiny arms and held me close. "I always miss her." Even though her speech was hardly audible above a whisper, it dropped like a ton of bricks on my head. I spoke the words, "I know, sweetie," in a soothing voice, doing my best to reassure her. She made a tiny departure and sniffled as she did so. "I live by myself. There are no friends in my life, and my father, Louis, is constantly very busy. I blinked my eyes. "Daddy Louis?" She gave a slight nod. "He is not my biological father. I refer to him as Daddy, but he is actually my uncle. My true father has also passed away. The pain in my heart was for her. Despite the fact that she appeared to be so frail and vulnerable, she had been through this much. Suddenly, I had a great idea. "Do you want to be my friend?" Her eyes grew wider. "Really?" "Of course," I assured her. "Can I be your friend?" The smile that was slowly spreading across her face. Indeed! As a friend, I would love to have you! I was taken aback when she abruptly sprang up on her chair and thrust herself at me. I hardly had time to gather my composure before I was able to grab her in my arms. As she kissed my cheeks, she laughed and smacked me all over the face. Her enthusiasm rubbed off on me, and I couldn't help but laugh. Okay, right on the money! That gives me a tingle! After we had eaten our ice cream together, I realized that it was time for me to leave before I ever realized it. I did a sigh. It seems to me that we ought to be going. It's time for me to go back to work. I picked her up and brought her outside after lifting her into my arms. When we stepped out of the building, I spotted him once again; it was Daddy Louis. Near the entrance to the cafe, he continued to pace while he was on his phone. He immediately terminated the connection and walked up to us as soon as he noticed us. This small child let out a sigh. "I wish we had more time to talk." "Yes, I am aware, ladies. While I was putting her down next to her uncle, I declared, "I do as well." "But I have work to do." I got down on my knees and knelt near her. I was able to see the tears that were beginning to form in her eyes, despite the fact that she was trying to avert my stare. I softly remarked, "Hey, do not be sad," and I meant it. Do you agree that you will see me again? You can reach me at any time if you feel the need to communicate. After reaching into my bag, I took out a card and presented it to her on the spot. "Do you see? Both my name and my phone number are listed here. Feel free to give me a call whenever you like. A grin began to grow on her lips as she gazed at the card that she had taken in her hand. I was aware that Daddy Louis was observing us, but I chose to ignore him nevertheless. With a tight hug, she murmured, "I am going to miss you," as she held me closely. I gave her a hug in return. "I am going to miss you too, princess." I responded by kissing both of her cheeks, and she kissed me on both of my cheeks in response. The two of us continued to hold onto each other for a brief period of time before I finally let go. It was when I turned to go that I became aware of his gaze on me. I did not reverse my course. While I liked her, I did not like her father since he was so unpleasant. As I walked away, there was one question that continued to remain in my thoughts. Why was it that I had the impression that this was just the beginning?
