PROLOGUE
The lights flickered as he walked around the house. He climbed the stairs carefully not caring if he made a sound. His dirty dark cloak slapped the floor carelessly as he moved towards the room.
"I thought you were a heavy sleeper," he muttered, checking himself out in the mirror as he noticed Bernard turn over to face him.
"I am. I smell you around easily," Bernard replied, sitting up. "What are you doing here Caesar?"
"To give you my advice as a father," Caesar answered him, turning around. "End this now."
Bernard opened his mouth to say something but was cut shut by the cry of a baby.
"Leave already. I don't want Adam to know you," Bernard said in between gritted teeth, looking at Caesar straight in the eye.
"My grandson? Why?"
"We've talked this over already, Dad. I want my son to live amongst humans as a normal person..."
"That he isn't," Caesar cut him off.
"But he'll be."
"How? By living among some mere humans? You can't avoid this son. He'll be back for blood," Caesar laughed, scorn echoing in his laughter.
"No, that won't happen. He'll never know what he is. Never!" Bernard yelled.
"And during the full moon?"
Bernard stayed silent. "Go away. I don't want to talk to you."
"End this now," Caesar repeated.
"No I won't. I don't plan to. Why? You only want me to end it because you're blood thirsty right?! Just stop your nonsense and live as a normal human!"
"That I am not. I'm not human, Bernard. Neither are you nor your son!" Caesar reminded him. "Your stubbornness will have consequences. Prepare to face them."
Bernard turned in the direction of the now silent child. He had his mind made up and no one, absolutely no one, could change it. "Very well then. I'll be anticipating."
*13 years later*
Darkness covered the house ignoring the shadows. Scattered cups, plates, clothes, drugs complimented the darkness making it beautiful. Adam sat on a broken chair at a corner staring at his father laying lifeless on a bed.
"Take this," he said giving him another round of pills.
"I don't want 'em," he managed to say in between coughs. It was all useless now.
"Father-"
"It's your first day at school," he said as his eyes drifted to Adam's backpack laying carelessly on the floor with half of it's content out. "I wanted to drive you to school today."
"That's not necessary. Just take your drugs."
"It's over son. These pills are a waste," Bernard managed to say.
"Stay strong, dad."
"I can't," he said with a weak smile. "Just grab your backpack and go on to school. Live your life as a normal teen."
"Not without you, dad."
"Don't be a crybaby now" he continued. "This was bound to happen. I expected this. Just don't fall in love, okay. Promise?"
"Dad-"
"You can't."
"I can't, dad."
Bernard heaved a heavy sigh. "Son. Adam, there'll be consequences."
"There'll be consequences". Having heard that statement over a thousand sand, it meant nothing to him.
"I know. I'm not scared. You weren't."
