Breakfast the following morning was quiet. Extremely quiet. The only sounds filling the dining room were those of cutlery occasionally scraping against plates and the ticking of the clock hanging on the wall. Bernard looked the most worried they’d ever seen him. He barely touched his breakfast, his expression remaining thoughtful from beginning to end. Eventually, he placed his cup down and looked at the four of them. “So, “No one answered. “I don’t suppose I can convince you not to go.” Adam slowly shook his head. “We can’t skip the camp.” Bernard already knew that. If they failed to show up after everything that had happened at the palace, they would only attract even more attention to themselves. “I know,” he sighed. “I just don’t like sending you there knowing what happened.”
