CHAPTER FIVE

"The room might not be the most comfortable but do make yourself the most comfortable." "Uncle," Miranda said. "Are we all really supposed to share a room?" "Aren't you all girls?" Bernard asked. "I live alone and I was not expecting a visitor not to talk of a crowd. Be glad I have this one room to spare." "It's okay," she grabbed a pillow. "I'll just sleep with you and Adam." "Go sleep on the streets then," he yanked the pillow from her, returning it to its original position. "I hope it's comfortable there." She groaned as Bernard shut the door leaving her to Gwen, Lucy and Tina all staring at her. "So, there's only one bed," Tina broke the deafening silence. "How are we going to share?" "Can't the four of us just share the bed?" Lucy asked, the look on Gwen and Miranda's facing making her stop halfway. "Look, I get it. You both hate each other and you Gwen are used to your queen sized bed at home but we're neither at home nor at you guys school and please remember that in a way, this happened because of both of you so if you're both not willing to share the bed, just like Bernard said, you can both head outside and sleep on the streets and I sincerely co hope it'll be comfortable. At least comfortable enough to make you give up a bed just because of your stupid egos." They both looked taken back, not expecting her sudden outburst. She noticed the look on their faces, sighed and walked over to Tina to drape her arms over her. "Tina, let's both sleep, shall we?" Lucy smiled at her. "It's been quite a long day." Tina nodded as they both headed to the bed and laid next to each other. Gwen and Miranda stared at them in surprise, totally not expecting their actions. "You both can hate each other but please, not now," Lucy said to them knowing fully well she shouldn't. "The last thing we need right now is hatred among each other. Please." Miranda shook her head, Lucy and Tina moving closer to each other as they saw walk towards the bed. "I'm a light sleeper so I hope none of you guys snore cause if not, I'm afraid someone might be waking up with an incomplete respiratory system." Gwen looked at the trio laying on the bed. There was no point joining them cause she knew she wouldn't be able to get a wink of sleep all night. She felt terribly guilty and sorry to Lucy. It was all her fault she was in a world she didn't even know existed. "Are you really going to sleep on the streets?" "No, of course not," Gwen muttered to Miranda as she climbed the bed. She sat then turned to lay at the farthest edge of the bed, making it easier to avoid their faces. She felt lonelier than she usually felt at night. Sighing internally, she wondered if Tina had parents to worry about her and notice she was gone. She had none and the maids were just going to assume she was spending the night at Imogen's. Imogen. She reached for her pocket, immediately realizing she had left her phone in the car. There was really no way she could communicate with the few people that actually cared about her. She knitted her eyebrows as she noticed the hands of the wall clock remaining in the same position as they were ever since she had been staring. Sighing again on the realization that there was no way for her to know what time it was, she sat up. She groaned. The room had gotten darker than it originally was and she could see that all the girls were already asleep. Lucky them, she thought. There was no vanity containing her sleeping pills or kitchen to have dried persimmons from as she simply couldn't sleep. Without much thinking, she got up and walked to the wooden door. As she opened it, it gave a little squeak she ignored by stepping out almost immediately. As she walked having no destination in mind, she realized the house corridor was just as dark as the room, the only source of light it had being the reflection from the moon. Trying to keep her mind blank as she kept on walking, she continued and before she realized it, had gotten to the entrance of the house. Though not widely, it was opened and she could spot someone seated. Taking deep breaths, she got on her toes and began tiptoing towards the door. Luckily her steps were quiet enough as she was able to get to the entrance without unwantedly announcing her presence to whoever was seated on the floor by the door. "Adam?" She called out and just like she guessed, the male figure sitting with his head buried in his lap was him. "Oh, it's you. What are you doing here?" "Oh, Gwen. Hey," he raised his head to look up at her. "Just. What are you doing here. Can't sleep?" "Yup," she nodded, taking a seat next to him. "It's kinda hard to without my sleeping pills." "Sleeping pills? You need those to sleep?" She was silent for a while before replying. "Yeah." "Ever since when did you need em to sleep?" "I don't know," she shrugged. "It's been like that for so long so I don't remember when exactly." "Oh." "What about you?" She quickly tried to stop talking about herself. "Why aren't you sleeping?" "I just can't," he sighed. "With all these it's just hard. I'm sorry, this is all my fault." "No, it's not," she replied. "I mean, I get that you fell for me and that really isn't something you have much control over given it's me. So you don't have to be sorry. If anyone's to be sorry here, it should kinda be me." "No, you don't have to be-" "Duh, not to you," she laughed. "I feel sorry towards Lucy. It's my fault she got dragged here." "Mhm, how about Tina?" "What about her?" "Do you," he adjusted his sitting position. "Feel sorry towards her too?" "Tina got herself into this willingly," Gwen replied him. "I have absolutely no reason to be sorry towards her." "She just wanted to be your friend." "So?" "Maybe if you had just been nice to her and been her friend all along, she wouldn't have had any reason to follow you here." "So," Gwen arched an eyebrow. "What you're trying to say is that it's my fault Tina's here? And I should feel sorry for that?" "What? No-" "With that logic, it's your fault I'm here too," she cut him off, begining to feel irked. "So you should also feel sorry." "I do feel sorry," he replied her. "I know it's my fault you're trapped here and for that, I'm really sorry. You're the one who isn't sorry-" Gwen got up, Adam immediately pausing his words as she did. "I'm not doing this in the middle of the night and in the middle of nowhere." "Gwen-" "You should get some sleep," she cut him off again. "I'll do that too." Without waiting for a response from him, she turned, leaving him to watch her figure disappear before turning to return his head to his lap. "Sure."
