The dusk breeze was softly blowing into the room around and the shimmering of the moon crept. A bowl of red water with a towel on the floor. The Queen laid on the bed blankets were made of sheep’s skin. Her legs were covered in blood as she was in labour.
"Breathe, ! Come on! Breathe! The baby’s almost out" The midwife, Kore instructed.
“It hurts, Kore,” Chara said in tears as she tried to push.
"My lady, You need to push."
Queen Chara wailed in anguish as she strived to push out her child.
Queen Chara pushed one time and finally, just as her screams slipped out of her mouth, her baby slipped out of her right into the soft blanket laid in between her legs.
The little boy's eyes opened immediately, causing him to cry aloud.
"It's a boy!" Kore howled! Picking him up in her hands.
"I want to carry him," Queen Chara says, exhausted.
"Here you go, Your highness" Kore placed him in her hands. "Do you want me to call the King?" She asked, the little one cry continued in her arms.
"Yes, please do," she says, smiling at the little boy in her arms.
Kore ran out of the room to inform the King about his new baby.
"Your highness?" She called kneeling before him.
"I am on my way," he says, wiping his eyes, a son he had longed for was finally here.
King Aindrea, followed Kore to the birth room, as he stepped in, the moonlight covered the room giving him light to see his son.
"He's so charming," Queen Chara says, smiling at him as she gave him room to take a look at his son.
Meanwhile, outside the palace, a woman was in labour in a small hut, she lay on the bare floor, while a small blanket was placed in between her legs, she had sweat all over her. Beside her were a bowl of water and a towel.
"Breathe Diona!" Lola- her elder sister says, exhaling.
"I'm trying!" She says, holding the sheets tightly, as she struggled.
"One more come on, you can do this!" Lola encouraged.
"Mmmmm!!!" Diona screamed one more time, finally pushing the child out, everywhere became silent for a moment. Lola held the child in her arms, she had her eyes closed and her little fingers tightly locked.
"It's a girl?" Lola said disappointed, she had expected the child to cry which she didn't.
"Wh- what's wrong?" Diona asked worriedly, she breathed loudly.
"Isn't she supposed to cry?" Lola asked, placing the child in Diona's arms. She locked eyes with Lola.
"Is she alive?" Diona asked as tears rolled down her eyes, she had no husband.
They both stared at the child, Diona tried to unlock her hands, but just then her eyes opened.
"She's blind" Lola moved away.
"No, she can't be!" Diona lifted her eyelids, the colour of her eyes, didn't change, her pupils were dim white.
Lola quickly looked at the sky, the moon was full and shiny. She glanced back at the child, knowing she was the child of the prophecy but her hair was black.
"She's the prophecy child?" Diona lifted her gaze to Lola. She glanced back at her child. She didn't even cry, Lola moved away.
Diona laughed, how could her child be? She looked at Lola, she had no smile on her face, she looked at the moon and back at her child, it was just as the prophecy had said.
"Please, she can't be" she gulped, touching her baby, she didn't make any sound but she moved just fine. Maybe because she thought she was still in the womb due to the blindness she couldn't cry.
"You have to hide Diona, you can't stay in this kingdom! The king would have you and your baby killed!" She says, moving back to her, as she cleaned her up quickly. "I know of a woman who would help her regain her sight, you need to go there" she panicked.
"Thank you Lola" Diona wiped her eyes as tears rolled down her face.
"Don't thank me yet, make sure you survive, you caused this for yourself when you elope with a wizard" Lola lamented.
"Is everything okay?" Kaitlin opened the curtains walking in, Diona and Lola jerked seeing her.
"K- Kaitlin?" Lola managed a smile, her hands shaky knowing the kind of person Kaitlin was. She was easily bribed by money.
"Huh? You've already-" she paused taking a good look at the child.
"Yes," Diona trembled, closing the child's eyes.
Kaitlin raised her gaze at Diona, she looked so suspicious, her gaze locked with Lola. The room was silent for a moment, she then managed a smile.
"Kaitlin" Lola called, fetch us some clean water," she says.
"Oh, okay" she dropped the blanket and left the room.
"You must leave immediately," Lola says, packing a few things for her. "Once you reach, they would welcome you"
"Who? What are you talking about?" Diona asked confused.
"Don't you know? Your child is a child of the prophecy the one hated by the King of your land! You must leave this land"
"I just-"
"Do you want her dead?" Lola yelled, looking at the child who played with her hands. Diona could feel the connection between a mother and child.
"No" she whispered, her tears dropping on her baby.
"Good" Lola got up with her bags fully packed, she handed one to Diona and wore one.
"Are you leaving too?"
"I have to, King Aindrea would surely kill me for helping you birth the child, we must go our separate ways" she helped Diona wrap her baby in a black wolf's fur.
"You know your way around the forest, once to get to the centre of the forest they would find you"
"Who? How do you know these people?"
"I have no time to explain, you must leave immediately!" Lola opened the curtains and found Kaitlin talking to two hefty men. "She's already on us!"
"This way!" Diona pulls her by her hands, Lola placed her on a horse and handed the child over to her.
"May mother Selene keep you save!" She says, kissing her younger sister on the head before she tapped the horse.
