I don’t know how long I had been staring at my ceiling wall before Kawan knocked on my door. I don’t know when I gave up on sleep either, but at some point I did.
“I have stuff to do, do not leave this house.” Kawan snaps at me. I didn’t bother looking at him.
I just waved bye. “‘K Alpha.”
“Kawan.” he growls at me.
“Hm Alpha Kawan.” I yawned. Not bothering to move. His mood and lack of sleep would not help me today. Kawan stood watching for a few moments. I could feel his eyes on me, before he sighed and some moments later I heard the front door close.
I must have fallen back to sleep, because when I woke again it was to the sound of someone pounding on the front door. I walk over to the door, peeking into the peephole I see a young dark red haired girl outside.
Great, I think to myself as I opened the door. “Um hi?” I asked her.
“Is Kawan here?” She snaps at me as she pushes past me. Into the house before she walks into what I think is the kitchen. I hadn’t even looked around the house yet.
“No,” I tell her.
She turns back to look at me, she studies me for a few seconds. “So who exactly are you?” She asked, not letting me answer as she kept talking. “You're probably the maid right? I’ve been telling Kawan he needed a maid for me, because I hate having to walk around and do stuff for myself as I try to paint my nails and after I’ve been sitting in a chair for hours getting my hair just right. Well so . . . “
I stopped listening because she talked so fast it was hard to keep up and the more she talked I didn’t understand why Kawan picked me as his mate if he had this girl. “I really don’t know why he didn’t go to the mating cemorty this year, he should have picked me but there’s always next year. Being an Alpha keeps you away from things.”
I snapped back into attention as she talked about being Kawan's mate. I guess he hadn’t told her well she’s in for a surprise. “I mean he’s going to lose his title as Alpha if he doesn’t claim me as his mate soon.” the red head said.
At this point I wasn’t sure if she was talking to me or just saying it out loud so I’d know she’d be around a lot more. I didn’t get anything, I was kinda shocked that Kawan hadn’t told me he was seeing someone because then picking me as his mate wouldn’t have happened. Why had he picked me?
“I’m not a maid.” I blurred out, as soon as she had stopped talking for a moment.
She laughed, “well of course you are honey.” she says.
“I-I’m re-really not.” I stuttered because I never stood up for myself before, I could feel my legs start to shake in fear. “I-I’m K-Kawan’s mate.”
The red hair girl really started laughing then like I had just said the funniest thing. “You can’t be, Kawan told me he had an Alpha thing and would miss this year, but next year he promised me I’d be his mate.”
“I don’t know, but Kawan made me his mate, because if not I wouldn’t be here.” I tell her.
“Stop lying you stupid slut! He would never do that to me!” She screamed at me. I flinched in fear.
I ducked into the kitchen where she had been, she had finally sat down on the couch and I went to the fridge, I needed a moment to think about things but I couldn’t while she kept talking. There was a note on the fridge door that stopped me from opening it.
If you need anything call - Kawan.
At least you wrote a note. I think to myself as I look for a phone to call. The girl was still on the couch now talking loudly on the phone to a friend. Wouldn’t it be nice to have your own phone? I thought bitterly to myself.
He picked up on the first ring. “Hello?”
“It’s K-Kerse.” I muttered scared he’d be mad if I was bothering him.
“What do you need?” He snapped at me, already annoyed.
“There’s a g-girl he-ere.” I whispered into the phone. “S-s-she says she’s your girlfriend, you're supposed to claim her as your mate.”
“I’ll be there soon.” Kawan says. The phone went dead. I stared at it stupidly not sure what had just happened. Was Kawan mad that I found out about his girlfriend? Was he mad at me or her?
Waiting for Kawan was awkward because I didn’t leave the kitchen and the girl didn’t get off the phone. She kept talking into it loudly about things I didn’t know, stuff about people who I was guessing was in the pack, she sounded like a nosy b***h.
“Julie,” Kawan’s voice growled from the living room. I still hadn’t left the kitchen, “why are you here?”
“You never came back to me after your meeting, then people around the pack were saying you had a mate, which is impossible because I’m your mate.” Julie explained.
“No,” Kawan says, snapping at her. “I didn’t choose you as my mate, I chose Kerse.”
Tears filled Julie’s eyes. “It’s been six years, Kawan, how . . how could you?” she sobbed, and for once my heart hurt. I could feel the pain of what he did to her and I did my best not to cry along with her.
“Get out.” Kawan snaps, annoyed.
Julie slowly got up from the couch, she was crying so hard that I looked away, I couldn’t see the pain in her face. I couldn’t listen to her cry as the man she loved chose another girl over her. The males had all the say in who got to be their mate. We could date whoever we wanted but once a male claims you are that person’s mate no matter what. Also means the person you're with can choose someone besides you too. Kawan did that to Julie, and I basically did that to Liam. I was the girl I couldn’t tell Kawan I had a boyfriend or someone thinking of claiming me, Kawan claimed me first therefore Liam lucked out.
