Ch-08

1040 Words
Over the next few days, Amelia decided to stay home. She was already annoyed by Thalrik that she didn’t want to see him everytime. She wanted to spend that time with her family and take time to think and heal from everything that had happened but Thalrik seemed to have other plans. Since he was tethered to her, she could appear to her, but not to anyone else, a fact she found out about when she was brushing her teeth in the bathroom. She had raised her head after rinsing out her mouth, only instead of her reflection, he was there. “Hi” he said and waved at her. She jumped backwards and screamed, her head hitting the cabinet above. Kat came rushing in when she heard her daughter scream. “Amelia, are you okay?” She looked around, trying to figure out what had caused her to scream like that. Amelia rubbed at her head, catching Thalrik smirking just before he vanished. She shook her head and forced a smile at her mother. “Sorry to alarm you. I just got scared of my own reflection.” Kat looked like she didn’t believe her but there was no nothing to state that she wasn’t okay so she nodded and left. “f**k you, Thalrik” Amelia muttered before leaving the bathroom. Thalrik thought it was fun to annoy her often. He was stuck in the cottage with nothing to do but he could piss her off in her own parents house so why not? It also gave him an opportunity to watch her interact with other members of her family without her knowing. He only showed himself to her when she was mostly completely alone since he knew how hard it would be for her to explain why she kept talking to herself. From what he had gathered, her family members were worried enough about her as it was. The next time Amelia saw Thalrik, she was watching the TV with her family members. He appeared beside her, casually lounging as though he had always been there. “What are you doing here?” She whisper-yelled at him from the side of her mouth. He shrugged. “Came to watch TV” She groaned in frustration, causing Ethan to raise his head from below her. She smiled at him and he turned back to the TV. “You can’t be here.” She whispered again, facing the TV and looking every bit as crazy as if she was talking to herself. “There’s no rule that says that I can’t be. Besides, I’m bored over there. The least you could do is not allow me die of boredom. Trust me, Amy. That can happen.” He said, feigning sadness. Amelia decided ignoring him would be the best but it seemed like that only made him want to show up more often. He started to disregard not coming when she was with people, appearing at the most inconvenient of times. Once, when she was cooking, he appeared beside her son, sitting crosslegged as he stole one of Ethan’s toys. “How the hell do these things work? They seem like contraptions.” He said as he turned the toy over in his hands. Ethan looked up to her, confused as to why one of his toys suddenly disappeared from the floor. She looked at Thalrik and then at Ethan and back to Thalrik. Thalrik looked at her and shook his head. “Don’t worry, you’re the only one who can see me. Think of me as your imaginary friend, only hotter and sexier.” He winked at her and Amelia closed her eyes. She was going to need a whole lot of strength to her through the month. “Can you please, leave?!” She whispered to him. She wasn’t scared of him anymore, he was just another random person she knew who was a thorn to her flesh. A very annoying thorn. Thalrik pouted as if he was offended. “But I just got here, Amy. Sending me away so soon?” “You can’t be here, Thalrik. You’re infuriating and I’m beginning to go mad. Go back to the cottage.” She looked at him, pointedly, not noticing her mother standing at the door. “Who are you talking to, Amelia?” Kat asked as she walked into the room. This time, she could tell something was wrong and she knew Amelia couldn’t deny it. “No one, Mom. Just giving myself reminders to go to the cottage soon. It’s been a few days.” Kat wasn’t convinced. She could tell that Amelia was lying to her and from her grandson’s face, she knew something was definitely wrong. When Amelia turned around again, Thalrik was gone. Typical of him. Amelia had been acting weird since she came back from the cottage and she wondered what it was that had shaken her so much that she started talking to herself. Kat wondered if she should have a psychiatrist on speed dial. “I’m almost done cooking, Mom. Take Ethan with you so I can serve.” Amelia smiled at her mother, trying to convince her that she was indeed fine. When Ethan left with her mother, Amelia dropped her face into her hands. Thalrik was going to be the death of her or at least make her mad. Surprisingly, she didn’t see him for a couple of days. She didn’t go to the cottage too, busying herself with her son and her family. Things were finally looking up for her and she actually spent a whole day without thinking about Greg or her abusive marriage to him. Amelia was spending the day with her family when a knock sounded on the door. They were in the midst of a game and everyone paused and looked at each other. As far as they knew, no one was expecting anybody. Amelia got up. “I’ll get it.” She headed to the door and flung it open. Kyle stood on the other side. . “Hi, Amelia. Can I speak with you, please?” He looked around her where her family was staring at both of them. “Alone?”
