Chapter Thirty-Six
Matilda is on the bench press machine heaving up the two handles above her face. Jacqueline lifts curling weights at speed next to Josephine. She is kicking hard at the heavy leather punch bag. A beeping comes from the timer on a phone and they all swap positions and push themselves to exhaustion, for a minute. The beeper goes again, all three stop and lay down flat on the bare floor, breathing heavily, sweating, causing steam to rise from their bright red faces.
On the wall is a large group of different maps and photographs which trail around between the stuffed animal heads.
