“How did you get that, Ravenna?” I asked, glancing at the glass tube in her grip as I attempted to take a step forward.“Uh-oh, not another step.” she said, with a different look in her eyes.“Well then, give it back.” I said, trying to steady my breath as I held out a hand towards her.“I am sorry, but I can't.” “Ravenna, please.” I said, as my eyes burned with tears. “Don't do this.” “I am sorry, but I have to.” she said, lifting her hand above her head.“Ravenna, don't!” ***************************Just when she comes this close to living the human life she's always wanted, Scarlett's life takes a different turn when her younger twin, Ravenna is transferred to her school. CHAPTER ONE — THE PERFECT INTRODUCTION.
Chapter One. THE PERFECT INTRODUCTION. Scarlett's POV. “Ahem, quiet, please.” Caspian said, speaking into the mic which was buried in the lectern. “I need you all to listen to me.” After saying that, he kept silent for a moment, waiting for the murmurings to fade out. Once he got the attention of the class, just as he wanted, he adjusted the mic a little, and he swept his eyes all over the place. Perhaps, he was searching for me, I couldn't tell. But, the moment we locked gazes, he shot a subtle wink at me. “Thank you.” he said, with a smile on his lips the moment he noticed that the class was silent while he gripped the sides of the wooden lectern. “Right beside me is a new transferred student.” He gestured with a hand. “Just as you all accepted me, I want you to do the same to her.” he continued. “No one should make her feel less of a human. If anyone does that, then they'll have to answer to me. I believe we don't want that.” The words had barely left his lips when the blonde haired girl sitting right in front of me lifted a hand. I wasn't surprised because I expected her to. Even if no one decides to speak, Nora would. That's just the way she is: trying to ensure that she gets noticed all the time. “Alright then, what do you have to say, Nora?” Caspian asked, turning to face her as he took his hands off the lectern and shuffled a step backward. “I believe I'm speaking for everyone here.” she said, pushing her chair backward as she righted herself. “Perhaps, they don't have the courage to ask for themselves. However, we would like to know her name. So, please tell us.” That said, she settled back in her chair. Well, she wasn't entirely wrong. I'm sure a lot were curious to know the name of the new transferred student. But certainly not me, because she was my sister. “Thank you.” Caspian said, acknowledging her words with a subtle nod of his head. “However, she's going to tell you her name by herself; I'm not going to do that.” He turned to face her with a smile. Not to sound jealous, but that smile was meant for me alone. However, I knew that he had to do his job as the class president. “Please, do tell them your name.” “Firstly, I'd like to thank you all for accepting me.” she said, with a brief smile on her lips. “It is just my first day. However, you all have made it feel like I've been here for months. Thank you again. My name is Ravenna Lockwood.” As soon Ravenna made mention of her name, the entire class turned their eyes to me. Of course, I was expecting that. I knew it was only a matter of time before they found out that she was my sister. Twin sister, actually. “How did I not realize this sooner?” Nora gasped, her hands flying to cover her mouth as she turned back to face me. “You look so much alike. Is she your twin sister?” I was expecting all, but that reaction from Nora. But then again, it was something that was bound to happen. “Yes, she is.” I said, forcing a smile through my lips. “How come you never told me that you have a twin sister?” she asked, making a face as she nudged me in the arm playfully. “She is just as beautiful as you are.” “I know, right?” I said, with a frozen smile. “Have you gotten a seat for her yet?” she asked, raising a brow. “If you haven't then—” “Nora?” Caspian called, ducking his head to the side. He wanted her to see for herself that she was distracting the other members of the class. “I am sorry.” she said, adjusting herself on her chair as she turned back to face front. “I am sure you all heard her, right?” Caspian said, shuffling a step forward as he spoke into the mic again. “Her name is Ravenna Lockwood. Like I said before, please treat her nicely; she's one of us now.” He turned to face her. “There is a vacant seat over there.” he said, pointing an index finger in the direction. “That will be your seat from now.” “Thank you.” she said, holding out a hand towards him for a shake. “I look forward to a better experience here.” While she held out a hand to him, he hesitated for a moment. It was rather obvious that he was considering whether to take her hand or not. But then, if he expected everyone to treat her nicely, then he ought to lead by example. “Of course.” he said, receiving her hand. “If you need anything, feel free to let me know.” “Of course, I will.” she said, holding his hand with a smile on her lips for a moment longer. I honestly didn't see any need for the handshake. But then, even if she was going to do that, why hold his hand for that long? As I stared at them for a little longer, I accidentally snapped the pencil in my grip. Immediately, Nora turned back to face me with a questioning look. But then, I lowered my head. Not everyone knew that Caspian and I were a thing, but I guess she did. “Uhm, you should go to your seat now.” he said, taking back his hand from her. Still wearing that smile on her lips, she strode in my direction. Actually, I'd prepared a seat beforehand for her so that she wouldn't go through the stress of finding one when she eventually comes. “Hello, sis.” she mouthed, waving a hand as she approached her seat which was right next to me. However, not to show that I was irritated by her actions earlier, I forced a smile through my lips and waved back at her. “Hello.” I mouthed, covering the broken pencil on my desk with a hand. Before sitting, she took off her bag which was hanging on her shoulder, brushed a finger on the chair, and then blew the dirt on her fingertip. “Hey, what happened?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper as I turned to face her with a raised brow. “What took you so long? The day is almost over.” “It's not my fault, you know.” she said, with a shrug of her shoulder. “Mom arrived late. Besides, the registration process took longer than expected.” As I opened my mouth to speak, the bell sounded. “Well, it's time to go home.” I said, righting myself from the chair as I picked up my bag. As Nora noticed that we were about to leave the class, she got up from her seat and walked up to Ravenna. “I'm Nora: Scarlett's good friend.” she said, extending a hand towards her. “It's good to have you here.” Before receiving her hand, Ravenna glanced at me. But then, I responded with a smile, telling that it was alright to receive her hand. “Thank you for having me.” Ravenna said, with a smile on her lips as she received Nora's hand. “However, I have to go now. We'll talk better tomorrow.” “Of course, we will.” Nora said, as she let go of Ravenna's hand. “Until then, bye.” “After you.” I said, gesturing for her to walk ahead with a hand. Hanging her bag on a shoulder, she walked ahead. For one, the space wasn't big enough for the both of us. Even if there was any chance that we both could go through at the same time, Nora was standing on the path. So, there was no better way to go about it than to allow Ravenna walk ahead, while I followed from behind. However, as I exited the classroom, I found Ravenna waiting for me by a corner in the hallway. “Over here.” she said, waving a hand to get my attention. With a smile on my lips, I walked towards her. “So, what do you say?” I asked, as we walked towards the exit door. “Do you like it here better than your previous school?” “Well, I can't say; I've only spent a few minutes here.” she said, with a shrug of her shoulder. “However, who's he?” “Who?” I asked, even though I knew the answer in my heart. “The boy who introduced me to the class earlier. Who is he?” she asked, in a curious tone of voice. “Oh, you mean him?” I asked, pretending to have only realized whom she was talking about. “That's Caspian. The boy I've always told you about.” “Wait a minute, you mean that's Caspian?” she asked, the words seemed to drag themselves from her throat as she crinkled her face. “The one you're in a relationship with?” “Yes, is there something wrong?” I asked, noticing the look on her face. “Did something happen?” “No, it's just—” she scoffed, blinking her eyes rapidly in surprise. “It is just what?” “Never mind.” she said, turning to leave. “Hey,” — I gripped her arm, holding her back. “Are you sure you're alright?” “I am fine.” “But, you don't look like—” “I told you I'm fine.” she said, speaking through her teeth with forced restraint as she took back her hand from me. “Ravenna?” She didn't answer me. Instead, she kept walking towards the exit door. “Is there something wrong?” Caspian asked, standing beside me as he wrapped a hand around my shoulder while holding his bag with his other hand. “I don't know.” I said, shaking my head and staring at Ravenna as her footsteps receded into the distance. “She just—” “Don't worry.” he said, rubbing my arm. “I am sure she'll be fine.” “You think so?” “I know so.” he said, with a smile on his lips as he stood in front of me. “However, I have to go now.” “Wait, you're going back there again?” “I don't have a choice, do I?” he said, walking forward with his back in front. “I have to run extra shifts.” “But you told me you would stop the last time we spoke about it.” He paused. “If I do, then I'll have to quit school. Can you handle that?” “Caspian—” “That's what I thought too.” he said, with a soft voice. “You have nothing to worry about. After this month, I'll be done. See you tomorrow.” As he turned around to face the exit door with his front, he suddenly stopped. I glanced at him, then to the man standing by the door which was at a distance from him. I took some steps forward. “Who is he? And why's he here again?”
