Raven's POV
Kai is arrogant but it fits him perfectly, like the arrogance is just another piece of his carefully constructed armor. I think he likes the silence, prefers it even, because he doesn't say anything as I start eating. Just sits there scrolling through his phone like we're not even in the same room together.
River comes and sits down with us, reaching across the table to pick a grape and pop it into his mouth. He chews slowly, his emerald eyes watching me with an intensity that makes me shift uncomfortably in my seat.
"Relax, sweetheart," he says with that easy grin of his. "I won't bite. Unless you ask me to."
The comment makes heat flood my cheeks and I focus on my plate, cutting the scrambled eggs into smaller pieces even though they're already perfectly bite-sized.
