In Travis's astonished gaze, Lukas reached into a plastic bag, took out several bundles of money, and threw them at him. "Is that enough?"
Travis was dumbfounded by Lukas's action.
Then, Lukas threw the remaining two hundred thousand or so from the plastic bag directly at Travis. "Damn it! Take the f*****g money and get lost!"
"You're asking for death!" Travis felt deeply humiliated.
But Lukas was prepared. In an instant, Travis tried to get up, Lukas pulled out a fruit knife and pressed it against Travis's neck. "If you dare to harass my wife again, I'll kill you!"
As Lukas was pressing the knife against Travis's neck, Eira, standing nearby, turned pale with fright and quickly covered Miley's eyes.
What surprised her even more was that since when did Lukas, this useless wimp, become so courageous?
At this moment, Travis, with a look of horror on his face, said, "Let me go, Lukas. Let's talk. Don't act rashly!"
"Slap!" Lukas slapped Travis directly in the face and followed it up with a kick, "Get the hell out of here!"
Travis was kicked to the ground by Lukas, clutching his stomach and groaning in pain.
"Mr. Sutton!" Seeing Lukas release Travis, Eira wanted to help Travis up.
But facing Lukas's sudden ferocity, Travis was afraid and quickly refused. "Don't... don't... I can get up by myself!"
"Here's the three hundred thousand. I'll pay it back all off now. If I catch you coming around here again, I'll knock you out every time!" Lukas spoke icily.
Travis didn't take the money immediately. Instead, he sneered and taunted. "Okay, Lukas, you got the money so quickly. I'm curious that who would lend you so much money all at once?"
"What does that have to do with you?" Lukas replied icily.
Eira accused. "Lukas, that's enough. Mr. Sutton helped us after all."
"Did I ask him to help us? Miley isn't his daughter!" Lukas retorted, his eyes burning with anger.
But soon, Lukas stabilized his emotions. Because of his daughter's illness and his failed business venture, he and Eira had been arguing more and more lately. He loved Eira very much and didn't want their relationship to break down to the point of divorce, nor did he want Miley to grow up without a mother!
"Why don't you leave?" Lukas redirected the conversation to Travis.
Travis chuckled twice, picked up the three hundred thousand from the ground, and thought that he must get back at Lukas. Then he left the ward in anger.
Eira glared at Lukas and asked icily, "Where did you get the money?" Lukas didn't even lift his head. He replied, "I borrowed it."
"Who did you borrow it from?" Eira asked. "My bestie, Wyatt." Lukas replied.
Eira sighed in relief, thinking Lukas had borrowed from loan sharks. "You've borrowed from Wyatt many times already. You can't keep bothering him like this. Return the money now. I heard he's getting married soon!"
"I know. I'll repay him when I have the money," Lukas replied as he finally got a chance to size Eira up.
This woman was truly beautiful. Even with a slight frown, she exuded a unique charm. Little did she know, her once seemingly worthless husband was now the heir to the wealthiest family fortune globally.
Eira's gaze turned colder as she glanced at their daughter lying on the sickbed, saying, "Lukas, you managed to borrow money this time, but what about next time? Do you plan to borrow every time Miley is hospitalized?"
Lukas had been so ambitious when he started his business, and it was partly why Eira fell in love with him.
But since his business failed, he had spiraled downward, becoming increasingly pathetic.
Lukas felt a surge of anger. "I know full well what I'm doing."
Eira fell silent for half a minute before saying, "Lukas, even if not for yourself, think about Miley; my dad's birthday is in this week. Come with me and show some respect to my parents."
Eira had significant conflicts with her family over Lukas, and her parents offered no support.
Her parents had solemnly told them that they wouldn't assist with their granddaughter's medical bills unless they divorced, and after the divorce, the child would belong to the Hayes family.
Lukas said nothing, as he just clenched his fists.
Seeing him silently seething, Eira was furious. She stamped her foot, grabbed her bag, and cursed. "You'll just keep being a loser like this forever!"
As Eira stormed out in anger, Lukas sighed helplessly. 'Life without money or status was really getting on his nerves.'
Just then, Lukas's phone rang. He saw it was Zac Bates, the company manager. As he picked it up, furious shouts came through the phone.
"Lukas, what the hell are you doing?! Over a dozen complaints about you! Did you deliver our pizzas to space?! Get them back here now, then pack your s**t and get out!" Zac was livid. In just half an hour, he'd received over a dozen complaints about Lukas.
This was insane! Did this waste of space even want to keep working here?!
"f**k you! Why the hell are you shouting at me? I quit, and you're fired!" Lukas said.
"What the f**k did you just say? Lukas, are you f*****g stupid...?" Before Zac finished, Lukas hung up. He was already angry, and now a petty manager dared to yell at him? Being yelled at before was out of necessity, so Lukas endured it. But not anymore. Now that he'd inherited the family fortune, as heir to the world's largest conglomerate, could just anyone yell at him?
Lukas immediately called Dougie. "Dougie, I want to buy the company I work for! In ten minutes, I'll be their boss!"
However, after just five minutes, Dougie replied with a text: [Young master, the acquisition of Crispy Crust Pizzeria is complete. You're now the largest shareholder of Crispy Crust Pizzeria.]
Lukas nodded, hopped on his electric scooter, and headed for the company.
At that moment, Zac was in the lobby, staring at the phone Lukas had hung up on and seething with rage. "f**k! This is an outrage! How dare Lukas talk to me like that?!"
Hearing this, the dozen or so employees nearby all shrunk back, afraid of getting caught in the crossfire.
Just then, the company's doors swung open, and a middle-aged man walked in.
Seeing him, Zac instantly beamed up with a fawning smile. "Boss, you're here! Why didn't you let me know? I would've come to greet you."
The company's owner, Bruce Tristan, glanced at him and said, "Everyone, get ready to welcome the new boss."
Zac was taken aback. "New boss?"
Bruce replied, "Someone has bought the company for 10 million."
Zac cautiously asked, "Who's the new boss? Should we prepare anything?"
Bruce frowned. "I'm not very familiar with the new boss. But man, better be careful." With that, Bruce led dozens of employees to stand at the company's entrance together.
Zac, behind Bruce, shouted, "Listen up, everyone! The new boss is on the way. If you perform well, you might get a promotion or a raise. That means more money in your pockets!"
"A sycophant's way of kissing up was indeed disgusting!"
"It's all about him. What a bootlicker!"
A few employees murmured quietly. They had long been unhappy with Zac. He used to be just like them, delivering pizzas, but now he was shamelessly licking boots, all the way to the manager's position.
Just then, a black Bentley slowly pulled up at the company's entrance.
Dougie had thought about it and decided to come over himself, thinking he might help the young master solve some problems. If he did, maybe the young master would come home happy.
Zac stood behind Bruce while rubbing his hands in excitement. "Here he comes, here he comes." He knew that with the new boss's arrival, his chance to impress had arrived!
Just then, Lukas pulled up on his electric scooter in front of the Bentley. Upon seeing Lukas, Zac pointed at him and cursed. "Lukas, what the f**k are you doing there? Get over here!"
He thought angrily, 'This i***t was actually blocking the new boss's Bentley. Was he asking for trouble?!'
