Chapter 1
Chapter 1: Call Me Master Kraig and Nelly strolled down the bustling market road, their every step radiating wealth and authority. Their tailored clothes, confident posture, and commanding presence made it obvious they came from influential families. The two had been childhood friends. Behind their glamorous lives were years of hardship and sacrifice. People admired the glitter, forgetting that gold was forged in fire. Earlier that morning, Kraig had called Nelly at the ridiculous hour of five. "Get ready. We're going to the night market." "The night market?" Nelly had asked, still half asleep. "Why?" Kraig hung up before answering. Now, as they continued walking toward their destination, Nelly finally asked again. "Kraig, why exactly are we going to the night market?" "To buy peanuts and chocolate, of course." Nelly shot him a deadpan look before shaking his head. There was no point asking further. Once Kraig decided to keep something to himself, even torture wouldn't make him talk. What a hypocrite, Nelly thought. If their roles were reversed, Kraig would have pestered him endlessly after dragging him out of bed before sunrise. About ten minutes later, they arrived. A massive iron gate stood before them, guarded by heavily armed security personnel. After confirming their identities, Kraig led Nelly through the entrance without hesitation. Only then did Nelly realize where they were heading. The slave auction. His eyes widened in disbelief. "So this is where we're coming? I've been asking you since we left home, and you couldn't simply tell me?" Kraig ignored him. The two sat among the bidders as one person after another was presented on stage. Nelly quickly lost interest. They had been sitting there for quite some time without making a single bid. Just as he was about to suggest leaving, Kraig suddenly raised the bidding paddle. Curious, Nelly looked toward the stage. His breath caught. Standing under the spotlight was a young woman whose beauty silenced the crowd for a brief moment. She looked far too delicate to belong in such a cruel place. Her innocence made her seem completely out of place among the chains, fear, and greed surrounding her. Almost instantly, the bidding erupted. Five million dollars. Seven million. Ten million. The price climbed higher and higher as wealthy buyers competed like starving wolves. Kraig's expression darkened. Without hesitation, he raised the price from ten million straight to fifteen million dollars. The hall fell silent. No one dared challenge him. The auctioneer slammed the gavel. "Sold!" After completing the paperwork, Kraig received the necessary ownership documents, and the three of them left the auction house. As they walked toward the car, Nelly finally spoke. "Did you know her before?" "Yes," Kraig replied calmly. "She helped me once. It was a long time ago, but I never forgot her kindness. I've been keeping track of her ever since." He paused before continuing. "Unfortunately, her father was nothing like her. Greedy. Ruthless. Stubborn. I warned him more than once, but he chose his own path. So I let him face the consequences of his actions." "He was involved in every illegal business imaginable," Kraig continued. "Now all his crimes have come to light. Someone close to him must have betrayed him. He has far too many enemies, and this time... I don't think he'll escape." Nelly sighed. "So that's what happened..." He felt a little sorry for the man despite everything. He wasn't a saint either, no scratch that. None of them is a saint. They all are after their interest. That is how the world is, only few are still pure. And they are very rare. He looked back toward the girl who looks so out of place in his father's world. Or maybe in their world. "Why didn't you help him?" Kraig raised an eyebrow. "Am I not helping him now?" Nelly glanced at the quiet young woman walking behind again them before rolling his eyes. "Right... you are." It was sarcastic. He knew his friend well enough. Kraig wasn't heartless—but neither was he merciful. If someone crossed him, he simply stepped aside and watched fate do the rest. The three entered the car. Throughout the journey, the young woman remained silent in the back seat. She recognized Kraig immediately. She had been wondering ever since she saw him at the auction. Why did he buy me? Was it fate... or was it intentional? Earlier, while they were walking to the car, she had noticed the two men discussing something. She couldn't hear their conversation, but she was certain they were talking about her. After nearly an hour's drive, the car finally entered a luxurious estate. Before them stood a magnificent three-story mansion. The ground and first floor housed the guards and household staff. The second floor belonged to Nelly. The entire third floor belonged solely to Kraig. Since leaving the black market, she hadn't uttered a single word. As they entered the mansion, she found herself completely speechless. The interior was even more breathtaking than the exterior. Elegant chandeliers illuminated the marble floors, while expensive artworks decorated the walls. Every corner reflected unimaginable wealth. Money truly is wonderful, she couldn't help thinking. Yes, she came from money but this...., it is an epitome of it. She stood there in a daze, taking everything in. Without sparing her another glance, the two men walked toward the elevator. The doors closed. She watched it disappear. Are they crazy?! What am I supposed to do now? They left without giving me any instructions. Minutes passed. By the time someone approached her, it was already fifteen minutes. They came in quarter past three in the noon, and now it's half past three. Her eyes moves to the wall clock again. Standing for fifteen minutes, her leg ache..... They are really crazy. That psycho of a man. Bastard. i***t. Son of a ... "Hello." Startled, she turned around. Her thoughts paused. Who disturbed her..... A maid dressed in a neat uniform smiled politely at her. She returned the greeting. Can she curse her too? Definitely No, the maid looks kind. But, don't judge a book by the cover. She is clearly an example of it. Her looks can be deceiving. You won't know what hits you until the deed is done. Even Kraig doesn't know. The maid gestured for her to follow. Silently, she obeyed. They stopped outside a room on the second floor. Without saying another word, the maid left. Bella looked at the closed door. I suppose this is my room. She stepped inside. Her eyes widened. The room wasn't extravagant, but it was elegant, warm, and welcoming. Large windows overlooked a beautifully landscaped garden. Compared to where she had spent the past several weeks—sleeping on a cold floor before being sold—this felt like paradise. She walked toward the glass wall and gently pulled the curtains open. The evening view was breathtaking. A small smile appeared on her face. She entered the bathroom and enjoyed her first proper bath in weeks. When she finished, another problem awaited her. Her clothes. They were torn, filthy, and barely wearable. As she wondered what to do, another maid knocked softly before bringing in a fresh set of clothes. "This one is timid. Finally found a leisure game of hers, someone she can tease for fun." "I thought everyone had forgotten about me." She said teasingly to the maid. She thanked her sincerely before changing. Feeling relieved. The outfit fit her perfectly. She blinked in surprise. How did they know my size? Then another question surfaced. Who exactly bought me? Who sent the clothes? Was it the man I once helped... or his friend? Or... both of them? She had already accepted her fate. She had always known about her father's illegal dealings. Countless times she had begged him to stop. Each time, he responded with a slap or harsh words. "You're too soft!" "If only you'd been born a son!" Those words had hurt deeply at first. Now... She had grown numb to them. Still, it angered her that she was paying the price for sins she never committed. Taking a deep breath, she pushed those thoughts aside. The past could no longer be changed. Only the future remained. She was brushing her long hair when the bedroom door suddenly opened without a knock. Kraig walked in. His sharp gaze swept over her from head to toe, as though confirming she was ready. Without saying a word, he turned and walked out. Bella stared after him, speechless. "What a poor mannerism! Can't he knock?" Well... that answers my question. He is my buyer. "Come out." His deep voice interrupted her thoughts. She hurried after him. As they walked through the corridor toward the parking area, Kraig spoke without turning around. "Bella." She looked up. "I don't tolerate people who dilly-dally." She blinked. So he knows my name... They reached the parking lot before she finally gathered enough courage to ask, "What should I call you?" Since you already know my name... ...it's only fair that I know yours too. The thought barely crossed her mind before Kraig stopped walking. He slowly turned around. His piercing eyes locked onto hers. For a brief moment, she felt as though he could see straight through her thoughts. Her heartbeat quickened. She felt strangely exposed beneath his unwavering gaze. A faint smirk curled on his lips. "Call me..." He paused deliberately. "...Master." @Queenzayn
