Chapter 1
February 14th is Valentine's Day. That evening, streetlights and neon lights intersect, seemingly illuminating the entire city. A light drizzle falls, the streets are very quiet, and a woman with an umbrella walks briskly. Her loose dress cannot hide her good figure as she moves forward.
Arthea gazed at the cake in her hands, a sweet smile spreading across her face. Today marked the second anniversary of her relationship with her boyfriend, Hyman. However, Hyman had been extremely busy with work and had informed her that he couldn't celebrate the anniversary today, promising to make it up to her later. Hence, Arthea spent an entire afternoon baking a cake at home, planning to surprise Hyman.
At Hyman's house, Arthea quietly opened the door and turned on the lights. Having been there countless times, she felt an intimate familiarity with everything in the house. She carefully placed the cake on the coffee table. After ensuring the cake was undamaged from the journey, she breathed a sigh of relief.
The thought of their second anniversary brought a joyful smile to Arthea's lips. She removed her shoes and tiptoed towards Hyman's room, intending to surprise him. The air was serene, so much so that the soft, feminine moans and Hyman's pleasured gasps were distinctly audible. Someone was having a s****l encounter in her boyfriend's home. The smile vanished from Arthea's face.
The bedroom door was tightly shut, where the lewd sounds originated from. Arthea was stunned, her large, beautiful eyes widening, and her previously flushed face became deathly pale. She recognized Hyman's voice; he was thoroughly enjoying himself.
Her feet felt as heavy as lead. Arthea shook her head, but the nauseating moans still lingered in the air. She was almost hesitant to confront the reality of Hyman's cheating.
"Darling, when will you break up with Arthea?" Barbara asked seductively, her body intimately entwined with Hyman's, whispering in his ear.
"Babe as soon as our plan succeeds, I'll break up with her immediately," Hyman replied, squeezing Barbara's ample hips.
"Isn't your hesitation because you still love Arthea?" Jealousy filled Barbara's mind as she pouted her full, sensuous lips.
Barbara's coquetry overwhelmed Hyman, and he could hardly resist engaging in another passionate encounter with her. He coaxed her, "Of course not, babe. You are the most important to me. I even left Arthea on Valentine's Day to be with you."
"Do you think Arthea will catch us having s*x here?" Barbara's alluring voice cut into Arthea's heart like a dagger.
Scoffing disdainfully, Hyman replied, "What could she do if she found out? I've wanted to break up with her for a while. She's so dull; who could endure her?"
Arthea finally understood Hyman's nature through his words. Her burning rage seemed to be extinguished in an instant. Taking a deep breath, she composed herself and swiftly turned the bedroom doorknob.
With a "click," Arthea pushed the door open. The two people in the bedroom froze, but Arthea saw Barbara straddling Hyman. They must have been about to engage in s****l activity. Hyman was rendered speechless with shock at Arthea's sudden appearance; his burning desire seemed to freeze solid.
Barbara calmly climbed off Hyman, her gaze filled with defiance, as if she were Hyman’s actual girlfriend.
"Hyman, I think you owe me an explanation!" Arthea gritted her teeth, holding back tears. They had been in love for two years. Despite not living together, she always thought there were no issues in their relationship. She trusted Hyman deeply because he always appeared reliable. She never imagined he would cheat her. He must have been cheating for a long time, and she just found out now.
Arthea, you are such a fool!
"Arthea, as you can see, Barbara and I are developing a romantic relationship. You are no longer welcome here. Please leave my house now," Hyman declared coldly. Arthea was speechless with anger. In two years, he had never spoken to her this way.
"Get out, Arthea. Hyman and I need to finish what we started," Barbara said, wrapping her arm around Hyman’s neck.
"Barbara, my father and I have always been good to you. Why would you do this? At your hardest moments, my father sponsored your education and got you into Hill Group after graduation. Why you do this?" Arthea accused, holding back tears.
Everything happening seemed absurd; Arthea felt overwhelmed.
"Stop flaunting your wealth. You always think money can solve everything," Barbara retorted, rolling her eyes.
"w***e!" Arthea shouted, unable to contain herself, and slapped Barbara. If it had been any other woman in Hyman's bed, she might have controlled herself. But Hyman and Barbara had both deceived her.
Barbara, with teary eyes, cried out to Hyman, "Dear, she hit me."
Seeing Arthea ready to argue, Hyman slapped her too, harder than she had slapped Barbara.
Arthea stood still, unable to hold back her tears. Her heart shattered that Hyman hit her for Barbara.
"Get out, Arthea. Don't make me repeat myself," Hyman ordered, his face cold. Seeing Barbara's triumphant look, Arthea was shaking with rage.
"You dare hit me!" Arthea cried out in anger.
"Get out now, or I will hit you again," Hyman warned fiercely. Their plan had succeeded; to him, Arthea was now useless.
"Hyman, you scoundrel, you will pay for this," Arthea said, deeply disappointed.
"I look forward to your revenge," Hyman smirked. In his mind, he thought, Arthea, your game is over. Do you still think you're the noble heir of Hill Group?
"Hope you two stay together forever!" Arthea snapped before storming out of the apartment.
