The Untamed Devil

     It's been three weeks since I moved into my new apartment and I still have not put anything away. I had a miss call from my father so I picked up my phone and dialed his number.      "Hello dad," I said, yawning sleepily.      "Hi baby girl. So how's LA treating you?" He asked, his voice rough but gentle as always. Hearing him talk usually always made my day that much better.      "LA is treating me well thanks. My friend Veronica is here too and going to the same college as me," I replied to him. I then asked him, "How's mom doing? Is she any better, the same or..." I stopped, afraid to say the word.       My dad sighed and said, "She hasn't gotten any better sweetie. I know how hard it must be for you. Your brother is looking after her though."       I have three half-brothers and a step-sister but I'm not close to any of them. I'm also not that close to my mother but when she told me she had stage two cancer, that's when I started growing close to her and now she has stage three cancer. I've always been closest to my dad and when my mother left us when I was five, I went to live with him. "Let me guess, Nickolas is caring for her?" I asked him.      "Yes, Nick is with her," he responded.       "Alright. Well, I probably should get my things unpacked but I'll talk to you next week? And let me know if anything happens before then... Please?" I told him.       "Of course darling," he replied then hung up.       Once he hung up, I dialed Veronica's number and she picked up on the third ring. "Hey V!" I said enthusiastically.       "Gracie, what are you doing. It's 5AM in the freaking morning!" She spat at me. I tried to hold back laughing but I couldn't.       "It's actually 6AM V... I was wondering though if you would come over and help me move into my new apartment?" I asked after I stopped laughing.      "Oh... Yeah I'll help out. I'll be there in about an hour," she said then added, "Love ya bestie."      "Love ya too V. See you soon!" I told her then I hung up the phone and got dressed. I decided to put on my lavender and blue crop top, ripped black jeans and white shoes. I put my hair in a ponytail and started taking clothes out to hang up inside my closet. About thirty minutes later there was a knock on my door and I went to open it and saw Veronica. "Please, come in," I said to her.      "Thank you Grace," she replied with a half smile on her face that didn't seem good for me.       I looked at her, horrified and asked, "What's wrong? I know that look."       "Oh you know... Just a cute British guy is your neighbor," she casually told me.       I rushed to my room and grabbed my book then sat on my bed and began reading. When V took the book from me, I said to her, "Hey! What are you doing?"       "No reading until you finish unpacking all your stuff. IT'S BEEN THREE WEEKS!!!" She yelled. I knew that when she yelled, it was never a good thing and I knew I was in trouble.       "I... Uhhh... Oh fine! I'll get started!" I grabbed the stuff for the kitchen while Veronica did the living room stuff.  *     *     *      At about 7PM, we finished with the apartment and V asked me if I wanted to go out and get something to eat.       "You bet! I'm starving!!! Where do you have in mind?" I asked her, feeling my stomach growl.       "Well, that's a surprise for you. Just trust me," she said.  "Oh alright. Let's just head out," I said to her.
