“Didn't forget your work, right?" asked Aunt Lisa with a sharp look at me. I tried to enjoy the cut fruit on my plate casually, lest she suspected me of starting to find out what the medicine really was.
“No, Auntie. I make sure Mr. Seth consumes it regularly."
Aunt Lisa smiled slightly. “That's good.” She also seemed to relax a little. The look in her eyes wasn't as sharp as before either. Ever since I sat among them discussing some things I didn't understand. Most of them were about projects and cooperation with clients that might be connected to the Xeon Group. But really, I don't understand why I wasn't asked to stay away? Isn't their conversation too strange for an outsider like me to listen to?
But I couldn't move as those blue eyes stared at me intently. As if wordlessly asking me to remain silent and listen carefully to what they were talking about.
“The medicine is to make Seth's condition gradually recover. I got it with great effort,” Lisa said with a sigh. "I usually asked Jiro or Rosa to make sure Seth took it. But I guess it works better if his wife does it, right?”
I just smiled.
“I didn't know your relationship had progressed so far.” Lisa shifted her seat slightly to be closer to me. I don't know what this woman wants to do, it would be better if I acted as calmly as possible even though it's difficult. “It's rare for Seth to accept new people. And you... surprised me quite a bit.”
I chose to look down because I didn't know what to do.
“But that's good.” Lisa rubbed my shoulder lightly. “You don't have to worry. I can trust you, right?"
“Making sure Mr. Seth takes his medicine?”
Lisa nodded without hesitation. “Because Seth needs that medicine, Larrisa.” She smiled but for some reason Lisa's smile gave me goose bumps this time. “You have nothing to lose by confirming that anyway, right? I've already contacted the hospital where your daughter is being treated. I think your daughter's treatment should be transferred to the place I recommended. How about it?”
"I... need to consult with the doctor who treated Cressa in the past. I can't just rush into that decision, Aunt Lisa. But I'm really grateful that you're taking my daughter's situation seriously.”
Lisa laughed. "'Course I should, shouldn't I? Seth's parents are gone. Think of me as his surrogate parent. Your mother-in-law. You can think of it that way."
Our conversation continued on trivial matters including Lisa's fashion sense and several beauty clinics. I, who had never imagined going into such a place, could only smile awkwardly. Although she invited me to spend time together at the places mentioned earlier, I felt that she had her own use for me.
Especially since I was the one who agreed to Seth taking the medicine routine.
Uh! I felt like I was at a crossroads. I was walking Aunt Lisa who was going home and at the same time as I crossed the balcony of the main room, Seth was there. At the far end of the balcony, sitting on his wheelchair as he stared at us-me, to be more precise-intently. As if waiting for our conversation to end.
Me too. Waiting to talk to this man with eyes as blue as the ocean. And because of that opportunity, I approached him. At the end of the stairs, Seth moved his wheelchair as though asking me to follow him. Jiro stood not far from Seth but he didn't follow where the man went. Instead, Jiro seemed to bow politely when I passed by him.
This time... hopefully it will be what I want. I didn't have any purpose in coming to this house. I just felt like this wasn't right for my heart. I need money, but I can't make someone hurt because of my needs.
“You... called me?” I asked as I entered a room that was larger than the one I'd been in before. The interior of this room had more color than the other rooms. Perhaps it was because the large shelves surrounding the walls were filled with brightly colored books. Although the paint and furniture that dominated were still gray and white.
“Sit down,” he ordered in a firm tone.
I followed him to the center of the room where a marble-topped table was set up. Some files were scattered around and there was also a thick stack of folders. I sat down awkwardly. My eyes scanned around and read what kind of situation I was facing this time. Seth's face was no longer as intimidating as when he rejected the deal with me. But still, I have to be careful, right?
Especially when Seth was sitting right in front of me. His eyes stared at me intensely, as if I am an enemy to watch out for. Those blue eyes scanned me suspiciously and because of that, I looked down. I didn't want to look at him because I felt like I was being watched very closely.
“I decided to trust you.”
That statement made me raise my face. Trying to catch the meaning behind his words. Seth's blue eyes stared at me intently, so intense that I felt my body rooted to the spot.
“Are you... serious?” I asked, trying to make sure.
Instead of answering, he pushed a file towards me on the table. I recognized the file-the document on the composition of the medicine I had been given on Aunt Lisa's instructions. My gaze fell back on him, confused by the intent behind his actions.
“What do you really want?” he asked, his voice low but insistent. He leaned back in his wheelchair with his arms folded across his chest. Giving the impression that he was a calculating man. “Tell me clearly, Woman, because I see your potential as a traitor as very great.”
I paused, trying to make sense of the accusation.
“Traitor?” I repeated, unable to believe what I had just heard. “You consider me a traitor for finding out the composition of a medicine that I shouldn't have to find out?”
