I shifted back into my human form, my naked skin gleaming and dripping sweat as I made my way naked into the pack house. One of the helpers around the main pack house had quickly fetched me a robe which I hurried wrapped around my body as I made my way into the hallway through the wide entrance, heading straight for one of the elevators and getting on one almost immediately, relieved that I hadn’t come in contact with anybody, because I didn’t know how I was going to hold up a stable conversation in my current state of mind.
I dropped off on my floor and tapped in my password on the glass tab on one part on the upper part of the door, walking into the house and shutting the door behind me as I made my way further into the house, heading straight for my bedroom where I discarded the robe on the bed before making my way into the bathroom to stand beneath the cold shower and not doing anything for over thirty minutes.
It was currently some minutes past seven a.m in the morning and I had run in my wolf form for over five hours non stop, running and running as I desperately tried to give myself over to the wind, to allow my problems and worries to flow free and ease away from my shoulders for those few hours.
All but one tiny detail had managed to leave my head some minutes after I started running, and that had been what had made me overwork my wolf to this extent– because I had gotten pissed off as to why that particular detail didn’t want to live my head, even though it was for an hour at least.
I didn’t even understand what was really going on at this point, all I knew was that I couldn’t stop thinking about the little Omega who was apparently my mate, even though I had literally rejected her to her face.
Come to think of it, she had rejected me as well, and that was probably the cause of the slight throb that had started out in the middle of my chest when I was still back at the gathering – a throb which had gotten intense now, the pain spreading out around almost all corners of the chest.
I shut the shower and made my way out of the bathroom, mopping the water sliding down my body with a fluffy towel right before I slipped on a warm pair of shorts and settled down on the bed.
The ache in my heart was only getting more intense as minutes passed by and I just wanted to fall asleep so bad. Perhaps, whenever I get to wake up, it would all end up being a really horrible dream.
———
“Troy?”
The voice called out loudly and I winced as a sharp pain strummed in my head, right before I heard the now familiar voice of my beta call out to me again, a little loudly this time. I forced my eyes open and groaned in anguish when the harsh sun shone directly into my eyes, making another wave of pain strum in my head.
I rolled onto my back and blinked my eyes open, lifting my right hand to scrub it against my face. I felt really weird, like my skin was itching me right from the inside and my mind also felt really stiff. I pushed myself into a sitting position and moaned when my back and shoulders muscles cracked in protest, my biceps were also hurting really bad.
I nudge the heart of my wolf but he only ignored me, pushing me away, he was undoubtedly still mad at me for overworking him when I had done, because I had wanted to–
“Holy shit.” I gasped out and doubled over on the bed when a sharp pain tugged on the center of my chest, the pain washing over my whole body from that particular spot and a small groan fell out of my lips in shorts pants.
I slowly glanced sideways, my mind finally registering the fact that I wasn’t alone in my bedroom. I’d have felt their presence immediately on a normal day, but my wolf had completely shut me out, leaving me to myself.
My gaze landed on the face of my beta, and two more alphas who were all close friends of mine.
“What the hell are y’all looking at?” I snapped at them with a scowl, noticing the worried expressions on their faces and the disturbed pheromones they were releasing.
“Troy…” Stan stepped forward until he was standing beside the edge of my bed before asking in a small voice. “What happens when you want to run after exiting the gathering?”
I craned my head to the side as I allowed my mind to wander, wondering why he was suddenly interested in knowing what had gone down.
It wasn’t like something unusual had happened… oh, except the face of that damn omega that just wouldn’t leave my mind, as well as that of my wolf.
At the thought of the said omega, my chest expanded a little as differ thoughts of her flowed into my mind, and then the very next second, a sharp pain was piercing through those images, stabbing straight into the middle of my heart.
I doubled over and groaned in pain, clutching the side of my chest and panting hand, absentmindedly acknowledging the fact that the rest of my friends had also rushed forward to stand at the edge of my bed alone with Stan.
“s**t, Troy? What happened with you during that run.” Troy asked again and I whipped my head around to glare into his face. “I don’t know man, ok? Nothing f*****g happened. I just couldn’t get the cursed face of that damned Omega out of my head.”
“Oh.” Stan muttered after a few seconds and I winced as another wave of pain dug deep into my chest.
“Do you know what today is?”
I glanced out of the window with my eyes squinted a little before glancing back up at Jeremy, one of the two alphas in the room who had asked the question.
“Yeah, it’s a Sunday.” I replied, because the werewolves gathering had taken place on a Friday, and by the look of things, it felt like I had slept through Saturday.
“Man, it’s a Tuesday.” Stan whispered quietly and I jolted on the bed as I felt my heart hammer hard against my chest and ribs.
“What?” I demanded as I glanced around the bed for a phone or anything I could use in checking out what today was.
“You slept through three days, Troy…” Jeremy informed me, holding out my phone to me and my eyes zeroed in on the date and the days of the week.
It was indeed a Tuesday.
“Why?” I asked in a blank voice, feeling my heart pounding erratically against my chest.
“We don’t know, man. We tried waking you up yesterday’s morning to no avail, and then we decided to try again today.”
I ran my fingers through my hair and rolled over the the side of the bed before pushing myself off it and headed straight for the bathroom to empty my bladder, but the shocked and panicked sounds that had left the mouths of my friends made me turn around to stare at them– and noticing how wide their eyes had gotten.
“What is it?” I demanded in irritation. Everything wasn’t going well, I was hella confused and really worried as to why I had slept through three days and could still stand on my feet some minutes after I had finally woken up, without any kind of support.
“There’s something on your back, man.” The last guy in the room named Ryan finally spoke up this time and I stared at them in confusion, wondering why they were all acting so weird today.
“Quit playing games guys, my heart hurts really bad and I can’t seem to figure out what’s going on with me right now.”
“But there’s actually something on your back, no one’s joking with you right now.” Stan interjected before walking towards the wide floor length in the far end of my room and stopping at the edge.
“Come take a look.”
I hesitated for a few seconds before making my way towards the floor length mirror. I turned my back to the mirror and craned my head around.
“The f**k?” I whispered as I took in the drawing on the whole of my back, starting from the top of the back of my neck, all the way to the edge of the shorts I had on.
“Is that a tattoo?” I whispered again, wondering how it had gotten on my back without me knowing, and also how it could stay on my back since it didn’t resemble the type of tattoo werewolves get, that their healing pores would be unable to affect.
It was a drawing of a gleaming black rod, and the outline of a big wolf was directly beside one side of the rod, but the drawing of the wolf wasn’t as outlined as that of the rod.
“I don’t know, man. Looks really creepy though, it was there when I came to check up on you on Sunday, and so I assumed you had gotten it when you went for that run.” Stan muttered and I craned my head around until I was staring at him.
“But I didn’t get a tattoo, just what is this?”
It didn’t seem like any of the guys had a reply, and with a fed up and an anguished groan, I turned around and made my way into the bathroom.
“What are you going to do about your mate now?” Ryan asked, a few minutes after I had exited the bathroom and I glanced away from my pile of shirts hanging off the side of my closet to shoot him a sharp gaze.
“We’re not talking about that. Also, I do not have a mate.”
“But you do have a mate, the moon goddes–”
“What the hell am I supposed to do with a damn omega? Eat her?”
I turned back to what I was doing when Ryan fell quiet after that.
“You know what makes this more bad? The fact that she isn’t just an ordinary omega, but the omega from the pack who had been in a feud with our pack for centuries.” I started to say after a few seconds, sinking into a nearby chair and cradling my head in my palms immediately.
“Oh man, that’s really bad.” Jeremy muttered and I groaned low in my throat when the middle of my chest felt like it was being prodded with tiny pins.
“The priestess is waiting for you downstairs though, we have to hurry, seeing as we’ve wasted a lot of time already.” Stan started to say and I glanced up at him confusingly.
“You invited the priestess over?” I demanded and watched as he shook his head instantly.
“Well, technically no.” Stan started to say and I narrowed my eyes at him instantly. “We went there yesterday’s morning because you were completely dead to the world and were starting to get us worried. She told us nothing was wrong with you and asked us not to visit you again, until this morning… but she did come here early this morning and asked for your presence whenever you wake up.”
I ran my fingers through my hair and pulled on the roots hard, feeling my chest expanding and tightened as the image of the omega formed and desolved in my heart over and over, making the pain in the middle of my chest become really intense.
My skin felt uncomfortable to touch and my head was starting to pound. I was in a really sour mood and couldn’t for the life of me, make sense of all that was happening to me right now.
———-
“Who said you could reject a mate the moon goddess had chosen for you?” The priestess asked loudly the moment I made my way into the private chambers which were currently housing my parents and two members of the council.
“But priestess, she’s an omeg–'' I started to say but the priestess cut into what I was saying sharply.
“Silence, child.”
I bit on my tongue, feeling immense anger start to build in my chest, mixing with the pain I was feeling there already and I stared down at my feet, hating the way I was being talked down to, but having no choice but to remain silent, because she was the messenger of the moon goddess.
“You have committed not one, but three grave sins in the eyes of the moon goddess, and she’s very angry with you.”
I heard my mother gasp loudly but refused to glance up from my feet as I allowed all that the priestess to sink into my head.
“The sins wouldn’t be revealed to you, you’re just going to figure them out yourself and work it out.” The priestess continued and I glanced up to stare at her confusingly, wondering why the said sins wouldn’t be revealed to me, and how I was supposed to figure them out and work on them myself.
“Oh yes, it revolves around your mate. That’s all I am to reveal to you.”
I bit on the side of my lips and tugged on the roots of my hair, feeling my chest start to expand and tighten up once again.
“Priestess, I–” I started to say something but the priestess cut me off with a wave of her hand as she started to make her way towards me until she was standing a few feet away from me.
“As punishment, you’re not going to be unable to communicate with your wolf anymore, until you get this all worked out.”
“Priestess, no!” I started to say, disagreeing immediately as immense fear took over my whole being. I reached for the brown dress of the priestess in desperation and let go of it a second later when the material literally scaled my fingers with hot heat.
“Although you would still be with your sharp sense of smell and extra sharper eyes, as well as more sensitivity to scents and pheromones. You won’t be able to do anything else that actively involves your wolf, and that includes; Mind linking with any member of your pack, shifting into your wolf form…”
I felt the irritating itching beneath my skin start to heighten even more and I felt like sinking onto the floor and rolling around in dejection and anguish. There was nothing more painful than being unable to feel the heartbeat of your wolf in your head– and I weakly searched around in my mind to see if the priestess had been bluffing, and to my disappointment, I couldn’t feel the presence of my wolf in my head anymore…
And that feeling was worse than death.
“You won’t die from this, because even though you can’t feel your wolf anymore, your wolf is still able to tell that you’re alive, so be rest assured that this won’t end you… but to be honest with you, you’re going to suffer so much from it, and it is going to only get worse of you don’t get into action as soon as possible.
“Is there anything we can do? To lift the punishment off his neck and ask for a more milder punishment from the moon goddess, seeing as the punishment bestowed on the boy is going to ruin him completely, coupled with the fact that his heart is currently hurting from the loss of his mate whom he had rejected.” I heard my father’s voice boom loudly across the chambers and allowed myself to lean heavily against the wall behind my back to avoid myself from falling on my face, since I was starting to feel my legs wobble a little, my heart managing to crumble upon itself even more.
“I am so sorry Alpha, but I am afraid we cannot request for a different punishment, because of how grave the sins your son has committed was.”
I felt my heart break into a thousand more pieces and my chest squeezed more painfully and tightly in the middle of my chest as the priestess' words burned into my head.
The priestess reached forward and pressed a finger into the middle of my chest and I felt pain intense like no other flow into my spamming chest almost immediately and I didn’t know when a loud anguished howl that tore out of my mouth.
‘Find her.’
Those two words echoed in my head and I squeezed my eyes shut and clutched hard at my chest when the priestess pulled her finger away from my chest, feelimg like my whole insides were burning up with liquid like pain which licked over the insides of my chest and beneath my skin, tearing out another anguished howl from my mouth as I felt myself slowly start to sink unto my knees.
‘Find the omega.’
Those loud three words were the last thing I heard echoing around in my head, in an unknown voice– as I felt myself sink completely on the ground while still clutching at my chest.
Darkness pulled me underneath and everything blackened out, a scarred calmness settling down in my head.
