Destined

Kallie came to a stop and her breath heaved. She had run clear across town now. Her life would never be the same and she wondered if she would actually be able to outrun it.  The images of her mother’s gruesome death were riveting through her body and her sobbing was drawing attention to her from passersby.  Kallie stumbled into an alley and leaned her back against the chilly bricks. She placed her teary face into her palms and felt her eyes go dry as she ran out of tears to cry. Her mother may not have been the best parent in these past years but Kallie still loved her with all her heart. And now her heart was shattered into pieces, just like what the last image of her mother was.  Kallie had the sudden sense that someone was there. The sweet musky scent of the stranger that was brutally beaten reached her and Kallie’s stomach turned. She didn’t have the strength to bolt if she needed. If his possible attacker was following him, she wouldn’t be able to fight them off either.  Kallie slowly began to lift her head, she didn't want to startle him into fleeing again.  She found his boots in front of her feet and she followed them up. His thick leg muscles were constrained in dark jeans and he had a well fitting button up over his torso and chest. Kallie continued to use her eyes to trace his body. She was afraid of what she might see in his face considering the last time she saw this man.  Taking a steadying breath she finally glanced at the face, ready to quickly look away from a destroyed face.  Nothing. His face was unflawed.  He stared down at her with ice blue eyes and thick black hair grazing his eyebrows. His jaw clenched while he continued to look at her and her peripheral vision told her that his hands were just as rigid.  Was he scared? Angry?  Kallie just stared at him. His eyes seemed vaguely familiar. She was sure she had met this man before but she couldn't quite pinpoint when it was.  Angry welled up in Kallie all of a sudden. She stood quickly with the grace of her animal side helping her. Kallie had remembered what she had found in the car he had stolen.  “Who are you and why did you have a picture of me as a young girl?” Kallie demanded.  When the stranger continued to stare her down and not respond she felt her wolf become more agitated.  “Why did you steal that car?” “What do you want from me?” “Why are you here?” “How did you find me?” Kallie continued her onslaught of questions and the man did nothing but stare at her. Though now he had a slight smile on his lips that were making her more frustrated. Not because he was smiling at her inquisitions but because she desperately wanted to bite those lips were her teeth.  “Oh god”, Kallie thought, “what in the world has come over me…”  “If you’re not going to tell me who you are or what you want i'm going to be on my way.”, Kallie stated pointedly. She was not going to sit here in her grief for a man to make fun of her for.  Kallie stood and went to walk away when the man grabbed her wrist and forced her into his embrace. She cried out as tingles fell through her body. It made her want him more. He was so warm. She felt like she was melting from the inside out.  She started sobbing again and the stranger held her tighter.  “I felt your pain, my mate.” he whispered.  “W-What?” Kallie managed to stutter between sobs.  “I’ve been watching over you for a very long time. We have a connection you don’t yet understand since you’ve never lived a day with your real kind.”, He continued. “I still don’t understand,” Kallie said as she was able to calm her crying. This new information distracted her from her grief. “Who are you?,” Kallie asked again, this time gentler.  “I’m your mate. We’ve been destined to be together our whole lives”
