The Disaster
Cassie was in a dim-lit room. She didn't have to look around to know where she was. She always had the same type of dream since she turned seventeen.
She saw her reflection in the window. The moonlight beaming down at her. Cassie reached behind her to feel the silky feathers. She was always in awe when she saw her reflection. She still couldn't believe she had wings in her repetitive dreams.
She walked out of the room, towards the entrance. The hallway was barely visible to her but she didn't care. She had to see him.
Cassie let out a small gasp as she finally saw him. "Hey, you are a little bit late", He said jokingly as he turned around. He made sure not to show his face to her. Cassie sat down on the grass as she looked up at the stars.
"I missed your jokes", Cassie said softly. She felt him stiffen up. She looked over and saw the small smile on his face. She squinted her eyes to see more but he looked away.
"I got to go now. I'll see you later", He said quickly before jumping up and disappearing from Cassie's view.

Cassie sighed as her alarm went off. She glanced at the clock and saw that it was 7:00am. Cassie groaned and stretched out her tired body.
"Today is going to be a great one", Cassie thought before her mom barged in.
"Cassie, you need to ge-", her mom stopped as she saw Cassie sitting up in her bed. Cassie laughed and jumped out of bed.
"I'm awake, don't you worry about me!", Cassie exclaimed before turning to her closet. She quickly picked out a white t-shirt and denim jeans.
"Anyways, you need to hurry up. Maura is downstairs waiting for you", her mom stated. Cassie rolled her eyes.
"Already? It's literally 7:02am", she mumbled. Her mom shrugged and walked out.
Cassie quickly got changed and went to pick up her phone. She turned around and noticed Maura standing in the doorway.
"Oh hey Mau! How are you?", Cassie asked as she sat down at her desk to do her hair.
When Maura didn't answer Cassie, she spun around and looked at her friend. Maura had her eyes on the ground as she stood awkwardly in the doorway.
"Mau... everything okay?", she asked, concerned for her friend. Maura nodded and tried to smile.
Cassie raised an eyebrow at her friend and patted down to the space next to her. Maura sat down. Cassie watched her friend's expression change multiply times.
"Okay.. Caz, I have done a really bad thing", Maura spat out before going completely red in shame.
"Mau, you know I won't judge you about anything, right?", Cassie asked and Maura nodded.
"It is about Jordan.. he cheated on me again so I may have keyed his car...", Maura said quickly before grabbing a pillow next to her and stuffing her face into it.
Cassie rolled her eyes. "YOU DID WHAT?", Cassie said in disbelief. Maura's face went completely red as she averted her eyes.
Silence fell on the room as Cassie looked at Maura and Maura was looking at the wall. Cassie sighed as Maura finally made eye contact with her.
"Does he know?", Cassie eventually said and Maura shook her head.
"I did it when he was busy making out with Jessica", Maura whispered and Cassie shut her eyes angrily.
Jessica was best friends with Maura and Cassie for 5 years before they got more 'popular'. Maura and Cassie stayed the same. However, Jessica changed when she realised they were all getting popular. She became very vindictive and toxic to them. Jessica made rumours about Maura and Cassie but when they both found, they debunked all the lies. It backfired for Jessica when everyone found out and soon Jessica was disliked by almost every girl. Most of the boys didn't care enough to get into the drama.
"Mau.. the only reason she is doing this, is to get to you, okay?", Cassie said, trying to comfort her friend. "You need to break it off with Karl. No matter how much it hurts. You need to show him how strong you are".
Maura nodded slowly as tears spilled down her cheeks and Cassie quickly brought her into a hug.
"Don't even mention that you know about him cheating", Cassie said whilst hugging Maura.
After their hugging, Cassie finished straightening her hair and did her usual makeup look, mascara and light eyeshadow. Maura's mascara was all over her face so Cassie sat her down and fixed her makeup.
Maura gave Cassie a genuine smile after she finished, and she jumped up out of the seat. Cassie burst out laughing at Maura's sudden energy.
"Are you ready?", Cassie asked as she quickly grabbed her school bag and keys. Maura nodded and headed out to the hallway
"MOM WE ARE GOING TO SCHOOL NOW", Cassie yelled and her mom quickly ran to the door.
"WAIT! Cassie and Maura, we are going to the ROF Restaurant at 7pm for dinner. See you there!", Cassie's Mom said before they went out the door.
Cassie smiled at her Mom and Maura nodded before making their way to the car. They got in and Cassie started the car before pulling out of the driveway. Silence crept in as the two girls were thinking about two very different things.
"I am sooo nervous about the Karl situation but I am ready to end it", Maura said and Cassie gave her a supportive smile before turning back to the road.
Meanwhile, Cassie was thinking about what her Mom said about the ROF restaurant. They only ever go to that restaurant if they have really important news to tell the whole family. Nervous seeped into Cassie's body and she tightened her grip onto her wheel. She didn't know why but she got a very bad feeling with what her Mom was saying.
Soon, they arrived at the school and immediately they saw Karl waiting for Maura. His car was nowhere to be found so Cassie assumed he must've got the bus or walked. Maura's face expression was blank as she got out of the car. Cassie quickly stumbled out to follow Maura.
"Hey baby! How are you? I missed you so much.. we should've hung out yesterday", Karl said to Maura before wrapping his arms around her and leaning in for a kiss. Cassie cringed at him as Maura pushed him off.
"Hey, what's wrong?", Karl said. Cassie didn't know what to say so she just stood back as Maura opened her mouth.
"It's over, Karl", Maura simply said before she grabbed Cassie's hand and walked off with her head held high. She confidently grinned at nobody in particular. However, Cassie felt Maura's grip tighten and she knew Maura was really upset.
Maura was laughing and chatting to Cassie and Cassie was trying to distract Maura from her emotions. They made their way to the bathroom. Thankfully the bathroom was empty.
Maura ran into the bathroom stall and Cassie quickly barricaded the door with soap filled boxes.
"I am not going to cry over that stupid disgusting boy!", Maura stated before she grabbed a piece of toilet paper and dabbed it under eye to avoid her mascara smudging.
"Maura, don't you dare cry over that boy! You are ten times better than he ever will be", Cassie said to her friend.
Maura started laughing and hugged Cassie.
"You are literally my best friend", Maura muttered. Cassie grinned and hugged Maura back.
They sat and talked to each other for a few minutes to let Maura cool off before making their way to the classroom.
The bell rang as soon as they sat down and Cassie grinned at Maura. "Just in time too!".
Three hours later, Cassie sat down for lunch. She was immediately greeted by two of her other friends, Patricia and Ava.
"Oh my days! I thought I was never going to survive that lesson!", Patricia sighed as she sat down with her lunch tray.
Patricia started at the school six months ago and they immediately became friends. Patricia was very talkative and Cassie liked that about her. She could have a conversation flowing within seconds with random strangers. Cassie grinned at Patricia and she grinned back.
"Why does that teacher bloody pick on me everytime!", Ava said. She slammed her lunch bag onto the table.
Ava was a childhood friend of Cassie's. Somehow, they lost contact with each other as they started high school but obviously got back in touch with one another. Ava was an extremely loyal friend to Cassie. She was one of the few people to tell Cassie about the rumours. Any other person would have ran with it. Cassie was grateful for having Ava as a friend.
"Guys have you seen Maura?", Cassie asked as people started sitting down in other tables and she still couldn't see her friend.
Ava and Patricia both shook their heads. Cassie's brows furrowed as she glanced around the room again and realised Maura was in the lunch line.
Maura spotted Cassie and raised an eyebrow at her. Cassie pointed to her sandwich and took a big bite out of it. Maura rolled her eyes at Cassie.
The two other girls burst out laughing at Cassie's teasing.
Maura eventually got her lunch and sat down with the girls. Cassie looked over to see what she got for lunch.
"TACOS?", Cassie whisper-yelled to her. Maura grinned at her.
"Well yeah duh. I would've shared them with you if you didn't tease me", Maura said before she tucked into her lunch. Cassie grinned at her friend before nudging her.
"EXCUSE ME MAURA!", A fake high pitch voice rang out across the canteen. Cassie winced as she recognised the voice and saw Maura had the same reaction as her.
"What is it, Jessica", Maura sighed.
"WHAT IS IT? I HAVE JUST BEEN INFORMED THAT YOU AND KARL ARE BROKEN UP. WHY?", Jessica said in her loud voice.
Maura rolled her eyes and turned to make eye contact with Jessica. Cassie knew this wasn't going to go down well.
"None of your business, Jessica. Now leave me alone", Maura finally said. She chose her words carefully as she tried not to make a huge deal about it.
"I think I know why you did it", Jessica snarled at Maura. Cassie never has disliked a person so much.
Maura gave her a look as if to ask her why. Cassie went back to eating. She knew Maura could handle herself.
"It's because you finally got tired of cheating on him, right? You wanted to be free of the guilt huh?", Jessica spat out before taking a step back as if she was disgusted with Maura.
Cassie choked on her food when she heard this. She glanced at Maura and saw that her friend was shocked. Her mouth was open but no words were coming out.
Cassie felt her anger boil inside of her. Maura was the one who got cheated on and she didn't tell anyone except Cassie. How unfair was that?
"How dare you", Cassie said quietly before repeating it louder. She could feel everyone's eyes on her but she refused to stop. Cassie stood up and walked towards Jessica. She could tell Jessica was afraid.
"You don't get to say that. YOU were the one that Karl was cheating with. After many times of Karl saying that YOU are a horrible person.", Cassie choked out before just glaring at Jessica. She never really lost her cool before.
Everyone in the canteen started whispering as Jessica stood there in anger.
"Seriously just leave. Whatever your plan was is clearly not working so go before you embarrass yourself any longer", Ava spoke up.
Cassie watched as Jessica slowly left the canteen with Karl at her heels. She turned around when she realised Maura was laughing.
"OH MY GOD GUYS I CAN'T. THIS IS ALL TOO DRAMATIC FOR ME!", Maura said in-between her chuckles. Cassie, Ava, and Patricia all looked at each before laughing uncontrollably with Maura.
Another three hours later and the bell went off again, signaling the last lesson was over. Cassie and Maura walked to the car.
"Hey so like what are we going to wear for the restaurant?", Maura asked. Cassie shrugged at her question and opened the car door. She got in without saying anything
Maura frowned at her friend before joining her in the car.
"Caz, you okay?", Maura asked and Cassie felt her cheeks go red.
"Oh yeah, yeah I am! Sorry distracted with homework", Cassie lied. Maura groaned as she remembered she had loads of homework.
"I can't believe we have loads of homework already". Cassie nodded quickly.
Few hours past as Cassie finally finished her homework and looked at the clock.
"Jesus! It is already 6pm. I have to get ready", Cassie thought as she made her way to the bathroom.
Cassie turned on the shower and waited until it was heated. She hummed to herself as she stood in the cold steel shower. Cassie glanced to the mirror and froze. She saw white wings growing from her back.
Cassie closed her eyes and slowly put her hand behind her, trying to feel the wings. She felt nothing.
"Don't panic.. it is just your weird imagination. Your eyes are tired from staring at books", She muttered, trying to convince herself.
Cassie's eyes fluttered open and she breathed a sigh of relief. She grinned at herself for her silliness before jumping into the shower.
She didn't see the feather falling off her back when she got into the shower. It slowly drifted down the drain as Cassie hummed away.
