Stiles Point of view
We arrived at school just in time. It was my idea we go to school since we didn't spend much time at Jake's place, though the boys seriously kicked against it. They are such lazy asses. On our way to our lockers, we came across some girls winking at us and moving seductively. Don't they get tired? I thought. We are rich and popular guys in school, and to top it all off, we are intelligent and handsome, so you don't have to blame the girls. They just can't resist our charms.
" I feel like grabbing some asses right now," Dave said as he stared with lust at a girl with red hair who moved seductively under his gaze, signaling him with her fingers to come. " I will be right back".
"Dave, do you seriously want to go?" I asked with my mouth agape.
"Yea, why not?"
"You know, we are having a class which we need to prepare for?" I said.
"Yea, and I don't need a reminder. I am not going to spend much time. I just want to go answer her call briefly and book her for tonight."
"You can do that later, you know."
" If I don't go now, she would think I am not interested and so might lose interest. That makes later a bad idea," he said, and left.
" I haven't really gotten laid for quite some time now," Steven said.
"Maybe you haven't been interested or haven't got time for that because I know Stella is always at your beck and call," I said.
" You are a bit right. I haven't had time to think about s*x since that Friday incident. I have just been worried about Jake and, moreover, I haven't set eyes on Stella since after Friday's school session because I remembered she wasn't at the party."
"Frankly speaking, I think Stella deserves more than this."
"More than what?"
"I mean, she deserves better than this so-called s*x relationship with no feelings attached."
" It is not my fault. She agreed to it." Steve shrugged.
" That's because she loves you. Why can't you do the same?"
“ Well, because I can't love. She should be happy I am in a relationship with her. Besides, I haven't slept with any girl aside from her since we started dating," Steve said, looking at the direction Dave went. I glanced over to see Dave and the girl smooching. What a smart guy!
"I can't believe you called that a relationship because it is not," I said. Not long after, Dave came back with a smile of victory on his face.
"Woo! That was a success. She agreed to meet me up tonight," he said excitedly.
"Must you sleep with virtually all the girls in school? And what do you gain?"
" The s****l satisfaction is enough gain, and you know they are the ones that throw themselves at us, so we are innocent," he shrugged.
“ You can't blame the girls. They are affected by our charms. Who would set eyes on handsome guys like us and not fall?" l stated in pride.
“ You can't blame me either." You know you are no saint," he said.
"I have repented," I said, as we all burst into laughter. And sincerely, I will no longer leave such a life. It's a sacrifice for her. We walked to our lockers to prepare for the next class since we had missed a class already when I sighted Isabell some distance away, walking towards us with a smile on her face. I smiled back at her before turning over to the guys.
"s**t! I have got a problem," l whispered. The guys looked at me with concern.
"What is the problem?" Dave asked.
"Isabell is coming," Dave hissed in annoyance, while Steven looked at me with disbelieving eyes like I was insane.
"When did seeing Isabell become a problem?" Dave asked, perplexed.
“Please ask him,” Steven cut in, "I see no problem. I guess you're insane, or Jake was right about you and Isabell after all. You are scared that Isabella meeting you in our presence would expose the truth to us that you both are into each other," Steve said.
" That is very lame, man. How could you think such a thing? Well, sorry to burst your bubbles. You are wrong guys. I know she is going to ask me about what Jake said.
" I still see no problem with that. You should tell her then," Dave said, and shrugged his shoulders.
" You can't be serious, guys. There is no way I can tell her what transpired at Jake's place. It is bad news," l said.
" I guess you got good news to tell her then. If so, why bother complaining to us?" Dave asked.
" That is where the problem lies. I don't know what to tell her." l ran my hand through my hair in frustration.
" Just tell her the truth," Steven said.
" You guys are just saying all this because you didn't get to set your eyes on Isabell after what happened at that party. I went over to her place to meet her still in bed, crying. She couldn't take her bath or eat. She refused to do anything. I had no choice but to play a prank on her with Jake.”
"Huh! Was it that serious? " Steve asked.
" I can't believe you are asking such an insensitive question. What do you expect from a heartbroken girl? And judging from Jake's words, it seems he wants to cut it off completely with her, so how do I tell her such? " l asked.
" Huh, this is serious," Dave said.
" Oh! "You thought it was a joke, right?" he asked.
"What was the trick all about?" Steve asked.
“ It was all about me putting up a fake call and making her believe it was a real call to Jake. That was the only way I could get her to eat and also put her in a happy mood.”
"Didn't she find out it was all a prank by probably asking you to give her the phone to speak to him?" Dave asked inquisitively.
“ She asked me to give her the phone so she could speak with him, but I had to come up with a lie that he didn't want to speak with her yet. He would love to see me first,” l concluded, and they both surprisingly burst into laughter.
" You guys are really pissing me off right now. You both think this is funny, right?" I asked, glaring at them.
"Wait, did you mean to say she bought that lame lie of yours?" Steven asked, surprised.
"Yes she did," I replied, oblivious to what he was about to say.
" How does Jake seeing you affect her speaking with him on the phone? Now I know love is stupid and that's why I can't fall in love. I can't believe the intelligent Isabell could buy such a lame lie, but I guess after hearing her lover's name being mentioned, she lost her senses." Steven mocked.
" Talking about love, you are also guilty of it," Dave said.
"How?" Steve asked in confusion.
" You are in love, so I guess you are stupid as well," Dave replied.
"What made you think that way?"
“ It is written all over you. Ever since you have been involved in the so-called s*x relationship with Stella, as you claim, you no longer care about other girls, unlike you, and moreover, I don't think I know it," Dave said.
“ Well, sorry to say you are wrong because I can't love, and I'll stick to Stella alone because she satisfies me sexually, so why bother looking for someone else?" Steve defended himself.
"I don't have time for debate, but it's past time you admitted the truth, which is, you've been whipped," Dave said between laughs, "I wonder why you're afraid to love; only the immature do that." The longer it takes for you to accept the fact that you love her, the more you hurt her. Time to be a capable person," Dave said as he patted Steve on the back.
" Dave, I am surprised you are busy talking to Steve about love. What about you?" l asked.
"I am not scared of love like Steven is, just that I haven't seen the right one," Dave said.
" Now talking about Isabell, you can now see my problem. What do I tell her? " I asked as I ran my hands through my hair in frustration. They both looked at me in confusion.
" That's your problem to solve," Dave said.
"You can't be ....."
" Shhhh," Steve interrupted, "She is almost here." I turned around to see her walking close to us.
" Hi guys," she said, smiling. Dave and Steve waved with a fake smile and scurried away. " What is wrong with the guys? Why did they have to leave that way without even a word said?" she asked, looking worried. Those two are real clowns. Why did they have to leave that way? I hope it doesn't make her suspicious. I scratched my head in anxiety, thinking of a suitable lie that would fit the situation to tell Isabell.
"Sorry for that. They are late for the next class. That is why they had to leave in such a hurry." I lied to cover their madness up.
" Oh," she chuckled. " What about you? I know you guys do have the same class at the same time since you all offer the same subjects," she asked. You see why it isn't good to lie? I didn't even think about that before coming up with that lie. I really had to come up with something fast.
"Yes, you are correct," I paused, at a loss for words. I knew fumbling for words would give her the impression I was trying to deceive her.
“ You don't have to say I'm right because I didn't guess. We have all been together for some time, so I know almost everything about you guys. So why aren't you with them? "
" l couldn't leave as they left because that would mean leaving you here alone, so I just had to wait and speak with you a little." l said.
"Oh! That is very kind of you, Stiles, but all the same, l got to go. I don't want you to miss a second class today," she said, trying to leave.
" No, it's okay. I am not going to miss the class, but I will be a bit late for it. I can walk into the class anytime I like," l smirked at her.
" Hmm, what an ego," she said as she rolled her eyes at me, making me chuckle.
" Well, it's good to see you guys at school. At first, I thought you guys were going to miss school today and that made me scared that something might be wrong because you guys had never missed school before.”
"What gave you the impression we were going to miss school?" he asked.
"Just that by the time I came, you guys were supposed to be in school already, but you weren't."
"Does that mean to say you came late?"
" Yes," she nodded.
"Why?"
"I never wanted to come to school in the first place, and moreover, I had to trek the distance from home,"she said.
"I am so sorry for that."
"Why tell me sorry?"
"I should have come to pick you up since I knew Jake wouldn't be available."
" Hey, that's no fault of yours. After all, I did trek it before you guys came into my life," she said, smiling.
" That is different now that we are in your life. You don't have to go through all that anymore." I promise you won't have to walk to school anymore. I will be picking you up for school until Jake resumes his duty and also anytime he isn't available," l said.
"Thanks Stiles, so why did you guys have to come this late?" She asked.
"We had to attend to something."
"You guys went to see Jake, right?" she asked. If I told her yes, I would have to come up with a good news story because there is no way you would expect me to relay what actually happened at Jake's place to her. It would make me feel bad seeing her cry, so there is no other option for it except to lie to her. If I tell her 'no', that's also lying to her, but if she happens to find out, I could easily defend myself by saying I didn't want to hurt her but decided she would find out herself. On the other hand, if I said yes, and she eventually finds out, there would be no way I could be able to defend myself.
"No," he finally replied.
"What did you guys have to attend to then?"
"It's confidential."
" You surprise me, Stiles. When did I become a stranger that you guys can keep secrets from?" she asked, looking annoyed.
"I’m sorry Isabell, that's not how you see it," I tried to reassure her.
"Alright then, so do you mind telling me?"
"No, I don't."
" Alright, I am all ears," she said, paying attention. Oh my gosh! This is going further than I thought.
"Yes, we went to Jake's place." I was just trying to pull your leg. That was why I said 'no', because you were actually right," l said, backing up with a stupid laugh. That was lame! She looked at me like I had grown three heads.
" It doesn't seem funny to me. What did Jake say? What was his reason for his recent behavior? " She asked, patiently waiting for answers.
"He said he was drunk," she said, and he sighed in relief.
"If he was, as he claimed, why didn't he bother calling or visiting to apologize?"
"He told me he was scared of your reaction." He was scared of being shut out. That was why he decided to keep off.
"Wow! That's good news," she said, smiling. I felt guilty at first for lying to her, but seeing her smile washed away my guilt." Let me call him then," she said, about to make the call.
"No, I protest that," I said as I held her hands to prevent her from making the call.I knew if she should go ahead with making the call, it would dawn on her that I was lying.
"But why?"
"Just let him do the calling or visiting first for some reason," he said.
" Alright," she said. " Thanks Stiles for helping me out and the concern you showed on this issue," she said, hugging me.
" It's nothing," I replied.
" Alright, see you at lunch," she said, hitting me on the chest.
"Ouch!" I exclaimed, as if in pain. "Must you always do that?" She chuckled and ran away while I stood smiling at myself as I watched her run away.
" I never knew you were such a good liar," Steve mocked as he appeared behind me, followed closely by Dave.
" How are you so sure about that? How can you tell I lied to her?" he asked.
" We heard your conversation with Isabell," Steve said.
"There is no hidden place around here, so how did you get to listen to our conversation?" he asked, surprised.
" I placed a device on your jacket which enabled us to listen to your conversation with her," Steven replied. I watched in awe as he walked to my back and took off a little device which he showed me.
"That's a tracker! How did you get it and when did you place it on me?" he asked.
"Too many questions at a time." Which do you want me to answer first? " He asked rhetorically. “ Well, I will go with answering the latter first. I placed it on your jacket before we scurried away."
" That was smart," I said.
" I am glad you now accept the fact that I am smart," he said proudly.
"You wish," Dave scoffed.
" Hmm, I can sense you are jealous, Dave," Steve smirked.
"How can I be jealous of a dumb_ass?" Steven ignored him and returned his focus to me. "As for how I got the device, my father gave it to me so that if I went missing, it would be easier to find me," Dave and l burst into laughter. "What is funny?" he asked, looking a bit confused.
" Nothing like that. I just thought this made it pretty clear that your father knows he has got a senseless person for a son to actually think you could get missing at any point in time," I said amidst laughter as Dave joined in the laughter. Steve glared at me and then at Dave.
"You know, I didn't say anything," Dave said, pointing at me in order to vindicate himself from Steven's wrath.
" That makes no difference to me. It doesn't matter who said it and who didn't, inasmuch as you laughed, you are guilty as he is," Steve said.
"It's funny, besides, who wouldn't laugh?" Dave said, but instantly realized he used the wrong choice of words as he took in Steve's expression. " No, no, I don't mean that. You know, I just love laughing," Dave said amidst laughter, walking away slowly. If looks could kill, there is no doubt Dave could be dead by now.
"See you in class," I said, waving to Steve as Dave and I walked away swiftly.
