I wake up feeling refreshed, it was a good night's sleep after a long night. My thoughts kept me up, but I managed to tell myself it was a random act of kindness, he did not really care about me. He has proven that time and time again, so I shrugged it off and went to sleep. I look at the clock and it is 8 a.m. I throw my clothes on quickly and head out the door. The final packs are arriving today and there is a lot to be done still. Everyone is in full swing. Every corner of the pack house is packed with Omegas rushing to get everything done in time.
I walk into the dining hall and smile, the decorations held up nicely and they are exactly what the Luna ordered. I rushed to the kitchen to help prepare dinner for tonight. I am tasked with the cake, because I am a great baker and I enjoy it most.
I start by gathering my ingredients and taking them to the counter. “Morning dear,” I hear Lana say behind me and I turn and give her a quick smile and wave.
“Do you need help with anything, or do you think you can manage?” she asks and I smile widely at her.
“I can manage,” She nods and winks as she walks to the fridge and starts gathering her own ingredients.
Hours go by as I finish the cake. I step back and admire my work. It’s a beautiful 3-tiered cake, layered with his favorite, chocolate, banana cake, and strawberry. I covered it all in my homemade whipped cream frosting, and put his name on it. It looks great, if I do say so myself.
“This looks beautiful, Taylor. Now go and get ready, they are expecting everyone to attend tonight.” I smile and give her a quick hug and leave.
I made it to my room to get my dress. It’s not as pretty or as nice as some of the other girls, but I saved up my earnings and bought it at the thrift store. I pull it on and look down to see how it fits- it still fits like a glove. It is a beautiful gray color, with white lace around the bottom of the dress. It is sleeveless and leaves my breasts open for show. It is fit like a 1950’s vintage dress. I have a pair of white sandals with gray on the straps that match it nicely. I slip them on and make my way to the Omegas bathroom for a quick look so I can put my hair up. I see Ellie walking that way so I dip into the closest room.
“Can you even believe that girl? Trying to steal my mate away, it makes me want to claw her eyes out!” Ellie screeches as she and her minions walk past. I roll my eyes and wait a moment until the coast is clear. I step out and make my way into the bathroom and lock the door.
I look into the mirror and stare at my reflection. I have aged well, but the lack of food has made my cheeks sink in. The dark circles under my eyes make me look way older than I am, and the bright red mark on my left cheek stands out like a sore thumb. I sigh and move onto my hair. I decide to throw it up in a make-do bun. I pull some pieces out and decide I am happy with how it turned out and I leave the room.
I hear laughter coming from the dining hall, the party in full swing now. I purposely came late so I can hopefully go unnoticed. I move around the room, trying to move out of the way of the dancing couples. I make my way to the refreshment table and grab a plate of food. Nobody told me I couldn’t eat at this party. So I hurry up and eat it before someone changes their mind.
Before I know it, I’m being pulled from the room by my arm. I look up to see a very angry David. I sigh. All earlier signs of kindness are gone.
“You,” He says as his eyes go dark. I gulp.
“f**k,” He says in a low voice. I gasp and back myself into a corner. He follows my footsteps, walking towards me. I tremble and a small whimper leaves my lips. He bends down close to my ear and a small growl escapes him.
He leans up and stares into my eyes, I see regret, sadness, but above all I see anger. Why is he angry with me, and why is he standing this close to me?
“I..I should get back to the party,” I say as I try to duck under his arm, but he moves it lower, trapping me.
“Leaving so soon?” he asks in an amused tone.
“Uh,” I say trying to think of a response.
The anger returns and he punches the wall next to me. I jump, not expecting that from him. He looks at me with disgust in his eyes.
“Go, stay away from me,” I take that as my queue to leave and quickly duck under his arm and almost run back to the party.
As I enter, the party is still in full swing, with dancing, laughter, and joy all around. I can’t be in here, I am so confused as to what just happened. Why did he pull me in there? Why did I see regret in his eyes? Why was he talking to me? All these questions pour down on me at once, and I know I need to step outside.
I quickly look around and see that Alpha Tom and the Luna are dancing, not worrying about me at all. I sigh in relief and run towards the door. I jump down the steps and run to the small creek outside. The bench that I put my clothes on to bathe is still intact- earlier I thought the older kids broke it, but here it is. I go to the old worn down bench and sit on it, staring at the water. I miss my parents so much, it consumes my every thought when things like this happen. They would give me the best advice, but unfortunately, they were taken from me all too soon.
I become angry thinking about the events of earlier. Why is it just because he is soon to be Alpha of this stupid pack he thinks he can do whatever he wants to me. He is confusing me, one moment he is so cold and mean the next he is holding ice to my face from a smack his father dished out. I sigh and put my hands on my face with my elbows on my knees. I just want to leave and never return. My seventeenth birthday is in a few days, not that anyone here will celebrate it. I think back to my fifth birthday, my mom threw me a huge party. Everyone was there, all my friends- or who I thought were friends- showed up. She decorated all night so when I woke up I would be surprised, the pink and green balloons danced along the walls. The streams so delicately hung in all the right places. The table had tons of green and pink decorations. It was all so great. I would have appreciated it more if I knew it was my last one I would have with them.
Maybe I can find my mate, and it will be someone out of this terrible pack, and he will take me away from here. I sigh again as a tear runs down my cheek. Let's be honest, I probably will never find my mate, I should accept that and move past it.
