As the excitement of Nova's promotion continued to ripple through the room, Lily approached her with a wide grin. "Congratulations, Senior Associate!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with genuine enthusiasm. "Thanks, Lily," Nova replied with a grateful smile, accepting the congratulations. Lily leaned in closer, her tone taking on a conspiratorial edge. "So, spill it, what was Mr. Daniel said to you earlier?" she asked, her curiosity piqued. Nova shrugged nonchalantly. "Oh, nothing much, just congratulating me on the promotion," she replied, trying to brush off the question. Lily raised an eyebrow sceptically. "Hmm, I have a feeling there's more to it than that," she teased, nudging Nova playfully. "I think Mr. Daniel might be interested in you." Nova rolled her eyes, dismissing the notion. "Oh, please, Lily, don't be ridiculous," she scoffed. "Why would Mr. Daniel, be interested in me?" Lily shrugged, a mischievous glint in her eye. "Why not? You're beautiful, talented, and everyone admires you," she pointed out. Nova shook her head, adamant in her disbelief. "It's not like that, Lily. Mr. Daniel is just my boss," she insisted, though a tiny spark of doubt flickered in her mind. Changing the subject, Lily leaned in closer, her eyes twinkling with excitement. "By the way, have you seen Mr. Jaxon Alexander?" she asked eagerly. "He's the chief guest here tonight, and oh my gosh, he's so handsome! I wish I was his girlfriend." Nova glanced around the room, scanning the crowd. "No, I haven't really seen him properly," she admitted, her attention momentarily diverted by Lily's enthusiasm. Just as Lily and Nova were having their conversation, someone called out to Lily, "Hey Lily! can you come over here for a second?" Lily's voice pierced through the chatter of the crowd as she responded to the call. "Yeah, sure," she replied, her tone casual yet attentive. Turning to Nova, she added, "Wait, I'll be right back," before hurrying off to attend to the summons. As Lily excused herself to attend to a call, Nova decided to make her way to the bar for a refill of red wine. Balancing her glass carefully, she navigated through the bustling crowd, her mind momentarily drifting. Just as she reached the bar counter and received her refill, a sudden collision sent her stumbling backwards, causing her to spill red wine all over her dress. "Oh my gosh, what have you done?!" Nova exclaimed, her voice rising in frustration as she looked down at the stain spreading across her outfit. Before she could fully process the situation, she glanced up to see who had bumped into her, only to come face to face with a tall, impeccably dressed man. Anger flared in Nova's eyes as she prepared to unleash her frustration on the culprit. "Are you blind? You've ruined my dress!" she snapped, her tone sharp with irritation. Jaxon Alexander, taken aback by Nova's sudden outburst, raised his hands defensively. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to—it was an accident," he apologized, his voice calm and composed despite the confrontation. Nova, still fuming, shook her head in disbelief. "An accident?! You know what, forget it," she muttered, frustration evident in her tone as she turned to leave. As Nova stormed off towards the bathroom to try and salvage her dress, Jaxon watched her go, a flicker of amusement dancing in his eyes. Little did Nova know that their unexpected encounter would be the start of an unforgettable journey. As Nova stormed off towards the bathroom to try and salvage her dress, Jaxon stood there for a moment, a mixture of shock and amusement evident on his face. He watched her retreating figure, his mind racing with thoughts of their unexpected encounter. Before he could dwell on it further, Jaxon's butler appeared at his side, a poised and discreet presence amidst the chaos of the party. "Sir, is everything alright?" the butler inquired, noting the surprise in Jaxon's expression. Jaxon shook his head slightly as if trying to shake off the encounter. "Do you know her?" he asked, gesturing in the direction Nova had disappeared. The butler glanced in the direction indicated by Jaxon, his expression one of mild confusion. "Know who, sir?" Jaxon sighed, realizing he was perhaps making too much of the situation. "Never mind," he replied dismissively. "Forget it." With a nod, the butler silently acknowledged Jaxon's request and discreetly stepped back into the background. Jaxon took a moment to compose himself before turning his attention back to the party, seamlessly resuming his role as the gracious cheif guest. As the evening continued, Jaxon couldn't shake the memory of the fiery encounter with the mysterious woman. Little did he know, their paths would cross again, setting into motion a chain of events that would change both of their lives forever. As the party came to an end and guests began to make their way home, Daniel found himself searching for Nova amidst the dwindling crowd. Spotting her near the exit, he made his way over to her, a concerned expression on his face. "Nova, there you are," Daniel said, relief evident in his voice. "Are you heading home? I can give you a ride if you'd like." Nova shook her head politely, a small smile playing on her lips. "Thanks, Daniel, but I'll be going with Lily," she replied, gesturing to her friend who had just appeared beside them. Lily grinned and looped her arm through Nova's, adding, "Yeah, Nova, let's go. The cab's waiting for us." As they made their way towards the waiting cab, Nova couldn't help but feel a sense of relief at having her friend by her side. She exchanged a quick glance with Lily, grateful for her unwavering support throughout the evening. Meanwhile, Jaxon lingered near the entrance, his gaze scanning the dispersing crowd. Amidst the sea of faces, a familiar figure caught his eye—Nova. Her refusal of Daniel's offer and her decision to leave with her friend piqued Jaxon's interest, surprising him with her unexpected gesture. As Nova and Lily disappeared into the waiting cab, Jaxon couldn't shake the feeling of intrigue that stirred within him. This mysterious woman, who had captured his attention with her fiery demeanour and independent spirit, had truly surprised him. For the first time in a long while, Jaxon found himself intrigued by someone new, someone unlike anyone he had ever encountered before. And as he watched the cab pull away into the night, he couldn't help but wonder about the enigmatic woman who had left such a lasting impression on him. As Nova and Lily settled into Lily's apartment for the night, Nova couldn't help but feel grateful for her friend's hospitality. They talked late into the night, sharing stories and laughter as they caught up on each other's lives. As the conversation turned to Nova's future plans, she mentioned her desire to buy a new apartment with the bonus money she had received from the project at work. Lily's eyes lit up with excitement as she revealed that the apartment next to hers was empty and surprisingly affordable. "Really? That's amazing news!" Nova exclaimed, her face lighting up with anticipation. "I've been dreaming of having my own place for so long, and now it seems like it might actually be possible." Lily nodded eagerly. "It's perfect timing! We can talk to the owner tomorrow and see if we can work something out," she suggested, a hint of excitement in her voice. Nova couldn't believe her luck. After years of saving up money from her job, she finally had enough to afford her own apartment. The prospect of having her own space, decorated just the way she wanted, filled her with joy and anticipation. With plans in motion for her future apartment, Nova and Lily eventually bid each other goodnight and retired to their respective beds, filled with excitement for the adventures that lay ahead. As Nova drifted off to sleep, she couldn't help but feel grateful for the friendship and support of her dear friend Lily, who had been by her side through thick and thin.
