CHAPTER 3

LUCAS

“So what is this all about?”

Harris Jaze Clark, the Luna of my Pack and my loving friend, finally asked after noticing how Daniel treated me like a wind for the past three days. He didn't even send me glances after that night when I told him I accepted Rexy’s offer.

I gave him a chance to stop me, instead he said mean things. Now he's sulking...

Harris doesn't know it yet. No one knows it yet aside from Daniel. I doubt someone will approve of me leaving the pack also, especially Luna. So I am hesitating until now to be honest, but I really need to get away from them and this opportunity came at the right time. 

Although, I wasn’t expecting it to come this fast. It’ll be such a waste if I let this go....

“Nothing changed Luna.” I tried and Harris raised a brow at me. I forced a smile and he rolled his small grey eyes. His light brown hair had grown a bit and I think this suits him really great. 

He’s glowing. I can literally see flowers around him.

The Alpha is probably giving him lots of love for him to glow like this. It is like only yesterday when he was thrown here. Who would have thought that this lad full of attitude will be the Luna of the pack.

“Lucas, I’m not stupid. If you have a problem tell me. It’s my job to listen and help you please.” He almost begged as he raised Hanna’s wolf on his chest, while sitting comfortably beside me on the garden’s ground. “Don’t even pretend that there’s nothing, because Daniel bringing that girl here is already enough to make you nuts.”

“I think I’m fine though.” I tilted my head on the side. Acting as if I don’t know what he meant.

“Okay, lie straight to your Luna’s face.” 

“Haha.”

He gave up with a frown and I chuckled. Hanna started yapping from Harris’s hands and so he let her go. The puppies started to run around the grounds playing tags and I smiled from the sight, ignoring how Harris stared at me, worriedly.

“Have you told Zick about your decision too?” He asked out of the blue and my eyes returned to him. I forced another smile to ease him.

“I’ll tell him once he returns.” I said that as if it was so easy, when it’ll probably be one of the hardest things I need to do.

Letting go of the person who chose me despite finding his own mate. Once Zicky returned, I needed to tell him that without a hint of hesitation.

I need to finish all of this on my own, then I’ll find a mate who’ll accept me...

I know it’s useless hiding it from Harris, but I don’t want him to worry about me. He’s been busy since he took over the title as the Mother of the pack too. 

Me and my leading men can leave his priority list since I think I can handle them for now.

“It’s Liam.” Harris excitedly pushed himself up and I watched amused as he ran to welcome his mate with a tight hug around the neck. I smiled from the sight and even the puppies gawked on how affectionate the two were, when they only saw each other this morning.

I want to have someone to do that with too...

“How´s the meeting with the Blue Flames pack?” Harris asked as he stepped down while I stood up to give my greetings as well, but before I could say anything-

“Nothing important but,” The Alpha looked at my way. “I need Lucas in my office.” My eyes widened and Harris glanced on my way as well. “Follow me.”

I gulped as he walked away. 

Me, why me?

“What did you do?” Harris asked worriedly, giving the Alpha´s back one last glance before returning to me.

I clasped my hands together on the top of my chest while shaking my head at him. Harris forced a smile before patting my head.

“It´ll be fine, don´t worry...”

I hope so... This never happened and I couldn't help but to feel worried. I looked at the Alpha under my lashes before following him in his office. 

The Alpha does not look mad, but-

“Do you have any idea why Mr. Goldsmith’s son keeps coming over?” Alpha Liam Cromwell immediately asked as soon as I closed the door behind me. His blue eyes looked bored as ever as I raised a brow. Well it only brighten up when Harris is around, anyway-

Is this about Rexy?

“I only saw him once.”

“He's been visiting for the past three days.” I shook my head to answer his first question and he almost frowned from his office chair. “That kid keeps looking for you, but he doesn't look safe from Daniel's glares so I keep him in my office. Today, I dragged him back to their pack.”

I stayed quiet under the Alpha's suspicious stares. I didn't know any of it so-

“What was it about you and that annoying brat?” My eyes widen from the sound of that.

“We don't have anything to do with each other, Alpha.” He stared at me, blankly.

“Then what does he mean about you accepting him as a mate?” My jaw dropped in shock, unable to notice the door opening behind me. “And that you´ll come with him in their pack to accept that.”

“Wait-“

“And you, do you know any of this?” The Alpha ignored me and asked the man on my back. I immediately looked behind to see Daniel staring at him with wide eyes. 

Oh good heaven! Why are you here?!

I gulped and stiffened at the same time when he looked down at me. His face immediately turned blank when he saw the fear in my eyes. It was as if he didn't hear any of it at all.

What? Why does it look like you are not bothered at all?

“That kid was known to have a Harem in his own mansion. He was surely spoiled by his father, and I don't think you're safe with that kid-“

“Alpha you got it wrong!” I interrupted, looking away from my Mate and focused on my surprised Alpha.

“I got it wrong?” He asked as I got closer to his table. 

“Yes!” I said desperately with my hands on his table. “He did invite me to come with him, simply because I cannot stomach being in the same place with- I mean I can't stay here.” I almost said it loud, thankfully I was able to stop myself. The Alpha seems to get it though so I just continued. “I-It's hard for my wolf...” I trailed off and the Alpha glanced at my mate from my shoulders.

“And did you agree with this?” The Alpha asked Daniel as I stepped back from the table.

He did.

“I did.”

See?

The Alpha looked back at me before turning to Daniel once again.

“If you say so, then I don’t have a choice but to approve this. Rexile wants you to be there before weekends.” The Alpha told me and I nodded. “I’ll ask Nathan to guide you well since that kid loves to spoil himself with both men and women. No one will protect you there.” That was for me, but his eyes were still focused on Daniel.

“Rexy don’t see me like that.” I said and the Alpha just nodded at me.

“Prepare your things, I’ll drive you there on Saturday by myself. You can take your leave for now.” I nodded once again before turning around to leave without looking at Daniel.

The two of them stayed quiet as I was about to leave. It seems like they have so many to talk about and I hope it’s not about me again.

I’m done for today-

“Hey.” My eyes widened from the handsome boy who poked his head as soon as I opened the door. Rexy smiled down at me while keeping himself steady with his hand on the door frame.

“H-Hi...” I blushed when I realized how close he was. 

“Found you.” He chuckled to himself.

“Hey brat, didn’t I just send you off?!” I looked back at the Alpha when he shouted all of the sudden.

Rexy laughed before grabbing my wrist and pulling me out the room.

“I’ll borrow Lucas for a moment!” He simply said, preparing to drag me away, but before he could a hand on his shoulder stopped him from moving.

We both turned to look at the owner. It was no other than Hhans Baldwin, Daniel´s best friend and a warrior of the pack. His pure black eyes fell on me from glancing at his best friend.

Rexy was already tall, but Hhans immediately towered him from behind though.

“Hey kid, didn’t your parents teach you not to flirt with anyone you see?” Hhans asked before pulling Rexy away from me on his shoulder. “You wanna die or something?” I just realized the heavy aura lingering from my back when he said that.

Don´t turn around Lucas.

I told myself to avoid meeting the glares of my jealous Mate.

The young Alpha male rolled his eyes before brushing Hhans´s hand off of him.

“Lucas, come on.” Rexy waved his hand at me and I looked at Hhans who let out a frown.

Yup, the kid is stubborn like hell, but I’m leaving anyway so what’s the big deal of joining the Young male for his visit. Besides, a certain person won't be bothered at all.

I felt eyes on me when I stepped closer to Rexy. He looks so proud of me standing beside him for some reason. It was as if he won something and his hand immediately sneaked on my waist.

“Your room?” He asked as he led me away. I looked up at him confused from the tone of his voice.

Am I just hearing things? Or is he really flirting with someone older than him?

I asked myself as he stared down at me.

Wow... How admirable.

“Rexy, you're not interested in me, are you?” I asked without hesitation and his eyes widened immediately.

“Can’t I?” He leaned closer and I was a bit surprised from his bold move. I glanced on our back and found Daniel glaring holes on my head. 

‘You are lying.’ I decided to use telepathy this time to keep our conversation private from the eavesdroppers. You see, Alpha males like Liam and Daniel can actually listen within the mansion grounds if they wanted to. ‘You’re just teasing Master Daniel. That's not smart.’ I added and he furrowed his brows, amused.

‘How cute.’ He chuckled.

At this time, I´m thankful that we already turned a few corners so that Daniel and the others wouldn't see us.

‘I know, you don't have to tell me.’ I said confidently and he chuckled again.

“I like you though.” He suddenly said it loud and I frowned at him. “When I said you’re cute, I’m trying to pick you up. It doesn't work that well on you-“

‘Stop it.’

He’s obviously doing it on purpose.

Rexy stopped walking and grabbed my shoulders so I could look at him face to face. The smirk on his face was amazing, but all I could see is a child enjoying his new entertainment.

Guess the Alpha was right. This kid cannot be trusted.

“You’re neck is as slender as a girl’s.” I stiffened when his hand suddenly touched the sensitive spot of my neck and he smirked more. Leaning down a bit to meet my eyes closer. “My mark would look amazing on you.” 

‘I said stop it.’

‘Come on play with me a little bit.’

Hah? You think this is funny?

“I’m serious though.” The beat of my heart suddenly rose when he cupped my face between his warm hands. This time it seems like he wants to go further to annoy someone and I don't really think this is a good idea. 

“H-Hey-“

“The face you’re making right now,” He leaned closer and I closed my eyes, tightly. “Can I mess it up more?” I felt his breathing under my nose and I moved away immediately. My hand also moved without realizing and hit him straight to his face. 

His eyes widened at me and so did mine when I realized what I just did.

I-I hit him! I just hit the successor of the stronger pack in the world and he’s even underage!

Lucas! You are a criminal!

“I-I’m sorry-“ His wide eyes immediately fell in excitement and I gulped on how his mood changed so fast.

“It’s fine.”

“No, I hurt you. I didn't mean it.” I went closer to see his face, hoping I didn´t scratch him or something. He leaned down a bit to help me examine his face and I heaved a sigh of relief when I found no wounds.

Ohh...thank goodness!

“Lucas, sorry I made fun of you.” He suddenly apologized and I shook my head. 

“It’s nothing really.” I forced a tired smile at him before moving away. I wish he would stop teasing Daniel though. He's just making my situation worse. “It's nothing compared to how the others treat me anyway.” I said and he smiled a bit.

I´m tired though. This kid should just go home-

“Hey,” He grabbed my wrist again. His eyes were shining this time and I raised a brow. 

“Yeah?” I asked. 

Wasn´t sure if I should really ask though.

“What do you think of being a Luna in my pack?” 

 Huh?

“I think you’ll do great and my Father knows you too. If you´ll accept it I swear no one would hurt you anymore.”

“W-wait. I said stop it...” He pulled me closer again and this time, he creeped me out.

“But I'm serious.”

“No.”

What's wrong with this kid?!

“Come on... Try to reconsider! I can do better than that stupid Mate of yours-“

“And how can that happen?” My eyes travelled immediately at Daniel’s annoyed face. He appeared out of nowhere. I gulped when he stood by my side. Daniel was literally glaring daggers at the kid and my jaw dropped from his action.

Daniel, this is Mr. Goldsmith’s son. What do you think you are doing?

“Leave now.” That was low and scary. Daniel said that while reaching for my arm and pulled me away from the kid who let out a frown.

“Kay.” Rexy seems to notice how serious Daniel was when he said that. He glanced at me and gave me another smile before looking at Daniel once again. They stared at each other for a while and I just stood there confused.

“See you this Saturday Lucas.” Rexy gave me his toothy smile and I just nodded. I waited for him to leave before looking up at Daniel. He was still staring at Rexy’s back for some reason.

Did they talk through telepathy? About what, I wonder. 

It seems to bother him and I could only admire him from here.

You act as if it doesn’t bother you, but you’ll still come running after me.

My lips formed a thin line while I slowly grabbed the hem of his shirt. His eyes widened a bit before it fell on me.

“Do you want me to go?” I asked out of the blue. Giving him one more chance to stop me.

I don't know why I still keep trying when it's literally hopeless for him to change his mind.

But would you? If you’ll be honest now-

“How about you?” He asked as he moved to face me fully. “Would you stop me?” 

My eyes widen from that. He caught me off guard with that question. I don't know why, but that question felt so deep. 

What do you mean from that? I can't figure you out...

All I know is that he didn't answer my question or stop me at all.

And that is his answer.

I slowly pulled my hand away from him, finally giving up this time.

“I can't understand you.” I said before walking away from him. His eyes were on me until I disappeared from his sight. Tears suddenly started falling for no reason and I leaned against the wall as I covered my face to cry silently.

You speak as if you don’t really care about me, but your actions show different. 

Still, bringing your pride down for me is something that you cannot do...

And I´m also done trying.
