CORBYN’S POV
To say things were awkward between Blue and me, was a bit of an understatement.
I think I avoided her as much as she did me. Then there was Melani...
Gosh! School was my least favorite place nowadays. Whereas before it used to be my happy place where I found solace.
Why did I drink that wine when Blue offered it to me? Why didn’t I just tell her I had never tasted a drop of alcohol from the day I was born? I felt ashamed, to be honest. She was already making fun of me because I still had my V-card and I didn’t want to give her any more amo to use against me.
I should have stopped after I had drained the first glass but it made me all warm and fuzzy inside. I felt like I could do anything...and I did...
But now I regretted my drunken mistake. I spoilt our perfectly good friendship because I couldn’t handle my alcohol.
Gosh! I’m such an idiot...
My three friends were walking towards me; Justin with a slight smile on his face, Torren looking excited and Rick wondering if he was a dead man or really alive.
I retrieved my books from my locker and slammed it shut. “Hey, guys.”
“Hey CC. Why so glum chum?” Justin slung an arm around me as we walked to our first lesson.
“I’ll have to tell you guys during break.”
“That bad?” Torren frowned, cramming his hands into the pockets of his jeans.
“Now you got us curious...” Rick turned to glance at me.
“Let’s talk later okay?” I said before we stepped into Math class.
Catastrophically, Melani sat next to me and I don’t know if I was ready to even deal with her, let alone speak to her. Out of all the floozies that had graced my brother’s bedroom, I never dreamed that Mel would be one of them. The worst part was she even agreed to a threesome-that included the king of sleazeballs himself-Deacon.
As she approached the desk I stiffened and avoided her gaze.
“Morning Corbin,” she tried to smile cheerfully as she looked at me.
“Melani,” I grunted as I kept my eyes on my notebook.
“I came over to your house on Friday-”
“Melani cut the theatrics okay?!” I snapped in a tone I knew conveyed my displeasure.
“Why are you being so rude?”She looked hurt and angry at the same time.
I shifted in my chair and fixed her with an incredulous stare. “Are you for real right now?!”
“Why are you so upset? What have I done?”
Before I could respond the teacher came in and told us we had a test, then asked me to hand out the papers to the rest of the class.
I left immediately after, with Mel hot on my trail. “Corbyn! Wait!”
“Stay away from him you tramp!” Blue stepped in front of her.
“Look who’s talking!” Melani scowled still more and sneered malevolently.
Blue moved closer, her arctic eyes narrowed in warning to leave this alone. “You’re barking the wrong tree little girl...”
This brewing altercation was beginning to attract everyone’s attention. I had to diffuse the situation before it escalated into a catfight.
“I think that’s enough,” I slid in between them and placed my hands on Mel’s shoulders, gently pushing her back. “I think you should go.”
“Why? She’s the one that was slut-shaming me-”
“Go Melani. I have nothing more to say to you so please stop following me around okay? We’re done here.”
“I don’t understand why you’re being so mean to me today? Did I do something? Please tell me what I did so I can fix it?” She moved over to the wall, her lip quivered and a sob threatened to choke off her voice.
For a moment Blue stared at her in disbelief — and then her eyes flared with renewed fury. “Are you kidding me?!! You slept with his brother and best friend-”
Some students gasped and then there was a mixture of snickers and murmurs.
“Laura-Jane don’t!” I glared at her fiercely but she felt the need to air the dirty laundry in the typical Blue fashion.
Her face contorted in rage. “Why are you defending her after she had a threesome with Chase and Deacon right in your face?!”
“This is none of your business-walk away Laura-Jane...” I said through clenched teeth.
“But-”
“Drop it!”
“Fine. Have it your way.” Despite her defiance, her voice shook. “Just know that she’s playing you.” She fixed Melani with a hostile stare before marching off.
Mel squeezed her eyes shut. “Corbyn I-”
“Save it Melani!” I slung my bag over my shoulder and brushed past her. Ignoring the tears that had started making their way down her cheeks.
“What was that all about?” Justin asked as soon as we took our sat in the outside seating area of the cafeteria at lunchtime.
“Chase is back.”
“Oh.” My friends replied despondently.
Once I mentioned my brother’s name they knew whatever followed after that was automatically bad. It was a given. Chase and trouble went hand in hand. I’m sure if you Googled trouble his face would pop-up.
“So did Melani really get three-wayed?” Torren went straight to the burning question.
“Yeah.”
“You saw it?”
“Chase made sure I did.”
“Sorry dude. We know you were feeling the French s*x kitten.” He punched my arm lightly.
“Not that I’m condoning her behavior but she was high...”
“No surprises there. That’s Chase and Deacon’s trademark: Get High. Get in.” Justin shrugged his shoulders and frowned, as he bit into his cheeseburger.
"I never expected that from her..." I sighed and threw my sandwich back on my plate, my appetite gone. "I thought she was really sweet..and I wanted to take the time to get to know her-treat her like the lady that I thought she was..."
"Why did you call LJ off?" Torren questioned. "You should have left her to tear the slutty kitten to pieces."
"No...it wasn't going to solve anything."
"While we're on that note-why have you and the salacious s*x-goddess been avoiding each other?"
"I've got to go to practice. I'll see you guys later." I replied, being deliberately evasive.
I wasn't ready to talk about my drunken mistake just yet.
