The Arrival
This is the last day I will see my mother. She thought, I have to start over with a new family she told me. What is wrong with me? Why doesn't my mother want to be around me any more? she continued. She said it would all come to light on my 18th birthday, and she couldn't help me anymore. What does she mean? Alice stepped off the airplane and entered the terminal in Seattle, Washington. Her fiery red hair was cascading down her back in loose curls, that framed her delicate features, her eyes were a bewitching green with a golden hue, and her pale skin glowed in the morning sunlight as if she were ethereal and otherworldly. Other passengers couldn't help being captivated by her natural beauty. Many of them were staring as she walked by. There was a newspaper stand near by that caught her attention with the latest headline. "Could it be a serial killer or a coincidence?" The first few lines caught her eye. The full moon is the only similarity. Funny, she thought, how could a full moon be the similarity. “Hey ma’am the paper ain’t free it cost money, do you know what money is?” The man said with a slick attitude.Alice asked the man selling the paper how much it was? She took a bill from her pocket and handed it to him and then rolled the paper up and pushed it into her backpack. She was new to the area and would like to find out if there was going to be anything interesting going on once she settled in. Her mother had a friend in Seattle who’s children had an agreement to let Alice stay with them till she was comfortable and could get set up on her feet. A vibration in her back pocket reminded her to check her text messages to find out where she was supposed to go. "Hey, my brother is going to be picking you up from the airport. You should not have a hard time finding him!" read the text from the unknown number. Her mother's friends daughter Marcella had sent the message while she was on the plane. Alice decided it was best to grab her things from the luggage station and make her way to the airport's entrance to look for the unexpected visitor. Matthew thought it was ridiculous that he was being expected to pick up some girl from the airport for his sister. He had meetings to attend and had no time, but he knew that Marcella's job was a priority and right now, with the suspected issues in the newspaper headlines, he knew she was extremely busy trying to figure out what was happening. Alice set her backpack down on the Terrazzo flooring and grabbed her bag labeled Alice Baldwin off the belt. She then slung her backpack back over her shoulder as she walked to the airport lobby. A tall muscular man in a black suit with black hair and crystal blue eyes stood waiting at the door. He was very alluring and pleasant in the eyes. His face had the most perfect chiseled bone structure, which made him look like a god. Alice was unsure of herself and why she had immediately found him attractive, butterflies filled her chest and she became nervous. She brushed the feeling aside and walked over to him and greeted him. "Hello Alice? I'm Matthew. I was sent to collect you and your belongings for my sister", he interrupted her before she could get a word out. Fantastic, she thought. Alice hid her face and blushed after her voice cracked saying “Thank you for coming, it means a lot.” Matthew looking annoyed grabbed her backpack from her shoulder and hung it over his and gestured to the door for them to go. Valet was running back and forth grabbing cars and keys from people coming and going, but one car was already waiting near by. It was a black SUV with tinted windows that blocked out most of the inside and made it hard to see if anyone was in the vehicle. Matthew opened the passenger door and helped Alice inside, and then gently closed the door as if he was trying to avoid being noticed. As they drove, Alice couldn't help but feel that Matthew had an intense aura about him. One that would entice fear in most people. She could feel the nervousness within her body start to eminate. The ride to the estate where Alice would be staying was extremely quiet. Matthew dismissed Alice as if she was just a job and nothing more. She could tell that he was not a normally friendly person and it disgusted her. This must be how people are on this side of the country, rude and unpleasant. She thought. Back home, where she was from, was the south and everyone showed hospitality. The Suv made a right turn into a gated driveway and though a security checkpoint. The guard opened the gate and let the SUV through with a nod. Alice thought it was strange that they would need security like this, but she didn't really know who she was staying with. She had never met them before. The only thing she knew was that their family and her mother's family went way back hundreds of years, they would take care of her no matter the cost. Little did she know her future was sealed in stone. Once her 18th birthday came in just a few days, she would fully understand her mother's transgression, and why it was so important for her to come. In front of the SUV, a large multi-story manor that had red stone covered in ivy and corbels jutting out of the side stood impressive.
