Jonathan set out on the thirty kilometer journey from Armagh at dawn, hitching a ride with a supply caravan heading south, expecting to reach the outskirts of Drogheda before nightfall. He had picked a wagon carrying sacks of wheat, grain, and oats. Some of the more lightly-packed bags provided him a comfortable mattress upon which to snooze. Upon arrival at the storehouse where the shipment waited, he climbed off the wagon and dutifully thanked the driver, having paid him in advance before the trip began. “Do you have a place to stay hereabouts?” Joe the driver asked him “Not really.
