“Do you think they’d consider adopting me?” I asked Saturday night as I got ready for bed. Dinner had gone really well. Devon’s parents, Emily and Joe, were as awesome as they’d sounded. They didn’t bat an eyelash at my age, and Emily and I had talked for hours about all sorts of new-age topics. By the end of the night we’d been as thick as thieves.
