Chapter 4: Who is Eddie?

I followed him as he moved further into the forest. “Mhm, how far is the next spot?” I questioned.
“You can rest,” he looked at me and smiled. “It is quite far”
“Umm, will that increase the danger…?”
“Nope”
“Okay, then... let’s just rest for a few minutes...”
“Sure”
I smiled at him and we sat down on a bench. There were many benches around, I don’t know why.
“So...”he started speaking. “How did you get the courage to run away?”
I... I started remembering. Jake. It is because of him. “I got it from my brother Jake. He told me that it is a hell out there, in those classes... so...”
He nodded. “He is right”
“Yeah...”
He looked down. “And how did you get it?” I questioned him.
“I got it when I saw you. I wasn’t gonna run away this soon. Maybe never. But I did because I saw you-- I didn’t know anything else, I just knew that we could help each other. I knew it is now or never”
I smiled at him. “Thank you, Eddie. If it wasn’t for you, I would have not been here, Maybe they would have caught me--”
“Shh, princess,” he took my hand. “Don’t even think that. I am here, right?”
I smiled at his sweet words. It looks as if we know each other for so long; not just a day. I don’t know why, but I can just feel that he is good and won’t hurt me. It feels as if I can trust him.
“Yeah,” I replied.
We sat there in silence. The silence was so comfortable. After 10 minutes, he took my hand. I looked at him and smiled. “Let’s go,” I said.
“Wait”
I looked at him and he pulled me close. My breath stops every time I am near to him… is this normal? He kept his thumb on my lips. “Was that your first kiss?”
Ah, what is that bad?
“Y-Yes...”
He leaned down and quickly kissed me. I kissed him back. It was a small one, but it was awesome.
“It was beautiful,” he caressed my cheeks. “I am glad to be the one to touch those lips”
I smiled at him and blushed hard. I had never blushed in my life and it is undoubtedly a new and cherishable feeling.
“You are blushing even more than the last time, Alice!” he smiled bigger.
“Ah... maybe because I kissed you so badly and you appreciated me?”
He laughed softly. “Bad? No, princess. It was beautiful”
I just smiled at that. “Okay, let’s go”
“Yeah”
We started moving forward. I was feeling some new energy building in me. I knew I was going to get out. I knew I was getting out finally. I will have a new life. I will work hard to get back with mom and Jake. I will make everything alright!
“So...” I wanted to know him more. “What will you do after getting out?”
“I will...” he clicked his tongue. “Marry you”
I looked at him shocked. Was he serious?
He laughed looking at me. “Haha don’t worry. I will give you time”
I smiled and laughed. “Yeah sure”
He didn’t really answer my question. I know I am trusting him blindly, and after my own dad was like that... it is quite difficult and wrong to trust anyone so easily. Also, I told him so much about me, but all I know of him is his name.
“So... how old are you?” I asked an awkward question.
“Oh, are you really planning on marrying me?” he raised an eyebrow.
“Haha, no. Just asking. I-I mean, maybe...”
He laughed. “20”
“Oh cool!” I replied.
“And you are 18, I know,” he winked.
I blushed at his wink. We were having such a good time. I hoped everything would always go like this. I just need Jake and mom around.
“So, after the third safe spot, we will be out?” I asked him.
“Yes,” he said. “Finally”
I smiled thinking about that life. How happy would everything be? I have only seen this gloomy world. I can’t start thinking about the life out there.
“Where are you lost?” his voice brought me back.
“Ah... nothing. Just thinking how much happiness is out there...”
He smiled. “Yeah. I have heard that the real world, outside this society, is the happy world. Where no inequality exists. You can have a great life there”
That only increased my happiness and excitement. “I can’t wait!”
“Yeah, me too”
As we kept moving, we came out of the forest.
“Let’s go, and hurry up” he smiled.
I looked at the map Jake gave me because I felt something was wrong. He kept on moving forward, I stopped for a second. I saw that after the forest, there was the headquarters-- where are we going?
“Eddie...” I said and he looked at me.
“Oh Alicia, come on!”
He came to me. “What’s wrong?” he questioned.
“Here...” I showed him the map. He looked at it and smiled. “We came from here, Alice”
He started explaining to me, saying that we were going in the other direction. I was still skeptical, but I accepted it.
“Okay...” I finally said.
“Do you trust me?” he asked again. I have to. “Yes”
He smiled and we continued moving. As we were moving, he held my hand more firmly. I looked forward.
There was...headquarters.
“Eddie...?” I questioned. He didn’t answer.
“Eddie?” I looked at him, while he was looking at the front and not answering me. But he was not shocked or anything.
Did I just get betrayed?
