Somewhere. Something incredible is waiting to be KNOWN ."
-Carl Sagan.
You know how life is full of surprises and falls. There's the high's where you feel like nothing can stop you and the next, you come crashing down to the bottom trying to claw your way back up to normalcy. Right now, I'm at normalcy, never moving up or down, just staying in constant static until something changes. My name is Kora Anis Laera Morgan, but most people just call me K.A.L.M. I live on Space X. What is Space X you ask? It is only the most advanced technology created in the 23rd century. Back when the world was aging and many were lost and did not know whether or not leave or stay, scientists, engineers, technological analysts, biologists, and any other person who could help with saving the planet came up with the next great idea: Space X. In its conception, it was to help alleviate the overproduction of the planet by using it to decrease human populations on the earth to let it heal. It was supposed to be only a temporary solution, but when it was being developed, the technology grew to point where Space X would be able to sustain life not temporarily, but permanently. When those developing and bringing this vessel to life, they were astonished and knew they needed brilliant minds in order to pilot, repair, manage, help with life on the ship. The brilliant minds recruited were selected by the team due to their special abilities. The great minds were given the captain roles in all areas; Command, Bridge, Engineering, Military, Security/Intel, Research, Medical, Operation/Corporate, and Stewarding. The heads all were at the top of the fields and knew that with being on Space X, they may never return to earth.
The Captain of the ship was chosen specifically because he knew how to lead better than anyone else. His name was Aandrer Morgan. He is my great-great-grandfather. I know, "shocking." My great-great-grandfather captained Space X for 60 years, he finally retired at the age of 100. You are probably reading this and thinking, how is it possible for a 100-year-old man to pilot a ship? At the end of the of the 22nd century and the beginning of the 23rd century, science made a medical breakthrough. They found a way to manipulate the DNA of people so that the body could last up to 130 years before dying of old age. Living to 130 is the equivalent of a 95-year-old person at the beginning of the 21st century. When he stepped down, my grandfather took over and used the same techniques his father taught him in order to lead the ship into the future. My father has trained his whole life to become the next captain and I have still so much to learn.
Life on Space X is no different than how Earth is. We eat, we sleep, we work, we play. The cycle repeats itself and moves us along until it is our time to die. Space X originally held space for 1,500 people aboard, but when families began to expand, so did the ship. Robots and humans expanded the ship to now accommodate for 5,000 residents. With this expansion though, life became divided. Those with higher levels such as Chief officers and those with leadership became separated from the people they were leading. Those in lower to no power thought they were treated like nothing. This, in turn, lead to the first and only mutiny after my great-great-grandfather stepped down. Lives were lost and this eventually ushered in a cap on the population. In order to keep the masses happy and not feel like a governing kingdom, each family could have a max of two kids and if the family was infertile, they would not have any chance to have a child, even with the advanced technology. Even with the strict rules, Space X thrived and has kept peace on the ship.
Schooling on Space X is similar to what people on Earth did but we have a separate wing that is used solely for education. we learn technology and all basic functions in case of an attack or event that would happen. At the end of classes, those who are not destined for a leadership role and given a test to see which job position they will fill. The only ones who are destined not to change are me and my friends.
Ristor Jackson, a charismatic boy who will later become my Chief Officer. He stands are 6' 5" with a muscular build. His kinky curls are cute into a short fade and he is always seen sporting a gold band on his arm. The gold band stands out against his dark chocolate skin. The band also compliments his hazel eyes which always charms the girls on the ship, even when he isn't trying. He always knows how to make someone laugh and make any situation better, even in the darkest situations.
Rena Hinojosa, she may be small, but she packs a punch. She comes from a long line of engineers and is the most intelligent person I know. We are always competing to see who will be at the top of the class. Her straight dark brownish black hair has always been something he hates, so one day before I am writing this story, she decided to dye the ends of her hair red. This feature helps her stand out amongst a crowd because of her small stature. Her 5' 1" stature may seem like no threat, but underestimating her will cost anyone dearly.
Ares Bailey, the most annoying and distant person you will ever meet. I guess that comes with the military background. He is not much shorter that Ristor, but is more muscular than him. In any combat or physical test, he is always the best and can never be less than number one. I hardly get along with him but sometimes past his steely exterior, he is a caring and selfless person.
All the others who are not in the same position as us call us the Four Horsemen. Whether or not this means that we will bring destruction or not, I don't know. People do treat us differently. I think they're just jealous that we don't have to necessarily fight for our positions. The two constantly despising us and below our group are Raige Clexand and his twin sister Enet. These twins would be the top of the food chain if it weren't for me and my friends. Their jealousy is like an annoying fly, too small to care, yet still is annoying.
This week is the last week of training and classes before the final test is given to all those of age. My younger brother is surprisingly taking the test, he is a year younger than all the recruits going in, but he is the hardest working person I know and will not be able to take over as the captain because of me. I, however, will be stuck to watch with the rest of my family as he and the other applicants go through the rigorous trials and tests.

"Alright students, step up! Those who are not in the simulator will spar with a partner until the end of the allotted time today. Combat training commences in 3, 2, 1." The combat teacher, Juda Bennes gives us one of our hardest workouts we have ever had.
"Kora, come spar with me." Reyna gives me a wanting look with her green eyes and I shlep over. I was gonna spar with Rictor, but Reyna beat him to the punch. All four of us spar in the same area and talk back and forth. The only one who's quiet is Ares. He hardly says anything anyway and when he does, its usually just a small comment. Suddenly as we're sparing a dulled practice knife comes whizzing past Reyna's head. I barely have time to dodge it while Ares catches it with ease.
"What the hell is your problem?" Rictor yelled. He hates the Clexand twins just as much as we do and doesn't like when they try to hurt us. Enet turns around with a mockingly shocked face, "I'm sorry, it must have slipped when I was aiming for the target." Raige snickers next to her and Bennes hardly does anything but tells us to get back to training.
