Madara and Izuna were waiting for the women so that breakfast could be served. Izuna noticed a significant change in his elder brother. He was more relaxed, more like his old self. Their night together must have been noteworthy. When they heard giggling, they both looked up and saw the women coming to join them. Madara stood up and pulled a chair out for Kala. Izuna did the same for Kiko. “I’m famished,” Kala sighs. Izuna and Kiko smiled at eachother. Madara nodded to the staff and they served breakfast. Kala ate her fill, much to Madara’s relief. Guess he had to make sure he worked up her appetite on a daily basis. Kala seemed to know what he was thinking. “I think not, my love.” Izuna raised an eyebrow and watched Madara. “We’ll see, won’t we.” Madara responded. Kala smiled. Something definitely changed last night.
The last two months flew by way too quickly, and soon Madara found himself helping Kala carry her belongings back to her apartment. The doctors, Tobirama and the Hokage gave her a clean bill of health. And as her caregiver, he was hardly the one to argue, considering. He had asked Kala to stay. She had put her hand on his cheek and nodded. “We need to live separately, It’s easier,” she had said. Madara hadn’t understood what she had meant until the Hokage had let him know that he and Izuna were going to go on a mission. For six to eight months. When he had let Kala know about the impending mission, she was sad for a moment, but then she smiled. “You’ll be right at home, doing what you love to do. Fighting is what you’re used to. That’s when you’re in your prime.” She blushed. “Besides, Kala says her blush cooling. “I can take care of Kiko for Izuna while you’re gone. Izuna, like Madara had put on his armor. He gave Kala a big hug. “How is Kiko?” Kala asked. Izuna looked at her, she could see the sadness. He had actually gone through with proposing to Kiko. He loved teasing Madara about it incessantly. Madara would respond that he was in no hurry to settle down. Though he knew it was a lie. “I’ll leave you to it, elder brother.” Izuna said and headed to the main gate of the village to wait for him. Madara grabbed Kala and gave a her a deep, long and passionate kiss that nearly took her breathe away. Saying more to her about his feelings than any words could. Kala bowed deep with a smile. Madara rolled his eyes and smirked before he ran to catch up with his brother. Kala thought she better go and check on Kiko. When she got there, she found her inconsolable. Kala held her friend close. Hot tears of her own began to fall. All this time with Madara and she had genuinely fallen in love with him. She knew what would come next. She had been distracted and for a time, she had forgotten. The future was about to unfold. And Kala was helpless to hope to do anything to change it. The fact that her best friend would be chosen to suffer along with her made everything that much worse. Her time here would come to an end, and unlike all of those around her, she would very likely walk away from it all. When and under what circumstances, she had yet to determine. Kala tucked her friend in bed. She needed rest. Kala, however, could’t sleep. She found her way to Hokage rock and sat down. The cool wind billowed her hair. “Couldn’t sleep.” Tobirama states. Kala nodded. “I know its much harder for you than anyone. You know what is coming and you can do nothing about it.” Kala nodded. “I accept my fate whatever happens. I know that the Will of Fire will continue no matter what happens to me or my brother.” Kala looked at him. And turned away again. “It’s Madara then.” Kala said nothing. Tobirama sat down next her and crossed his legs. “You did have to fall for the most complicated person in the village.” Kala rolled her eyes. “You can’t help who you fall in love with. Or who falls in love with you.” Kala disagreed. “Knowing what I know of him, knowing what he’s capable of, what’s going to happen. I should have stopped it as soon as it started.” “He would have only pursued you that much harder.” Tobirama stood up again. “Once he had chosen to pursue you, he would have shaken heaven and earth to achieve it. I have no doubt the man would cheat death if it meant being with you again.” A chill went through Kala. Coming from the man who created the Reincarnation Jutzu to begin with. Tobirama put his arm on her shoulder. “Let things happen as they may. Play your part to the best of your ability. And let it rest.” Kala turned around, he was gone. She decided to head home. She was shocked as hell when she ran into Tobirama. He noticed. “What’s the matter with you?” He asked. Kala just stood there for a moment. “You better head home, just because Madara’s gone doesn’t mean you don’t have missions.” Kala nodded. “Yes, Sensai.” Tobirama shook his head. What is with these kids. Kala showered and went to bed. Before she could think on what had happened anymore, she fell into a restless sleep.
During the months that Madara and Izuna were gone, Kala and Kiko kept as busy as they could. Tobirama still refused to let Kala do any missions outside the village, and she was getting frustrated. Sara had been called back by her family when she came into her Sharingan. Being with Kala was no longer seen as a benefit. Kala helped Kiko with her shop on occasion. Other than that she stayed at home when she wasn’t training. She remembered asking Madara about being a teacher, but when Tobirama realized her potential, he decided to have her work with Sara. Kala went to the Hokage’s office and knocked on the door. Tobirama and Hashirama waited for her to speak. “Sensai” She began. Tobirama crossed his arms. “If you’re not going to allow me to have missions outside the village, and I understand you’re reasons.” She paused. “Out with it, woman.” Kala bowed, “Please allow me to be a teacher at the school as was my original request.” Hashirama looked at his brother, and tilted his head. It was his call. Tobirama sighed. “Only temporarily, until Madara returns.” “No,” He responded. Kala grimaced. “We just received a mission that at this point, only you could do.” Kala was confused. “But, we need to have a serious discussion.” Kala waited. “It could mean life or death for you otherwise.” Kala nodded confused. Tobirama pointed to a chair, she sat down. “Kala, we know this is going to be hard for you considering you’ve healed very well from your attack by the Uchiha.” Kala froze then. Tobirama looked at her sternly. “When you were attacked, you somehow neutralized completely the eyes of one of your attackers.” Kala couldn’t remember any details of that. She thought back. She and Kiko had been surrounded, Kiko knocked one out, she had killed the other three... Someone had said Sharingan. Kala remembered. A man had activated his Sharingan to subdue her, but he was thrown back into the wall. Unconscious or dead she wasn’t sure. There was a sharp pain. She touched what she thought was a tear running down her face. It had been blood. Then she blacked out. Kala explained what she had just realized. They looked at her. “Simply because someone activated their Sharingan?” Tobirama nodded his head. “That can’t be the only reason. Madara activated his when you attacked him with a genjutsu.” He was right, and nothing happened when she dreamt of Madara either. Kala shook her head. “Brother, it may have been a combination of factors.” Tobirama nodded in agreement. “She had to feel threatened while helpless and the attacker had to have a Sharingan.” “Brother,” Hashirama said, “You’re not thinking of actually putting her in danger?” “Well, I can think of no better way to test this theory.” “You’re going to use me as bait?” “You wanted to leave the village.” Kala rolled her eyes. “I’ll be there with you, of course.” Tobirama grumbled. Hashirama watched her and waited for an answer. “What’s the mission?”
