Due to the World Cup, there were almost no available flights from Manchester to Paris. Rudy somehow managed to book a flight with only a few days notice, due to a cancellation. The only problem was that he would not arrive in Paris before the opening ceremony, he would miss it by an hour because of the time difference.
For the moment, everything was going smoothly with FC United, Jason Smith had made numerous donations, Steve Bruce had volunteered to help build his team and along with the help of Wolf and Griffin, Rudy felt that he could take the opportunity to fly to France and see the World Cup live.
Rudy was not just going to France for the World Cup, he was also on a scouting mission. Rudy had already written down a few names that he could think of off the top of his head. Rudy had found his economy class seat and sat down, he looked out of the small window at the people scurrying around like ants below him.
He started thinking about the first game of the World Cup, he remembered that Brazil beat Scotland 2:1. If anything changed, then Rudy stood to lose a lot of money and he did not want to think about what he would do if that happened.
Rudy was a fan of Brazil, they had a very particular style and Rudy had often wondered why Brazil had ended up losing to France. He had wanted to change history at that time but now he hoped that history did not change and Brazil would defeat Scotland.
Rudy watched as a stunning young woman walked towards him, she was dressed in a simple but elegant suit, her long brown hair cascading past her shoulders and her eyes hidden by a pair of expensive looking dark sunglasses. Rudy thought to himself that she was absolutely gorgeous.
The woman saw Rudy looking at her, she was clearly used to these kind of looks and gave Rudy a polite smile as she stowed her bag and took her seat next to Rudy, without removing her dark glasses.
Rudy did not pay much attention to the woman to start with, there were pretty girls everywhere he went. But even Rudy had to admit that this woman seemed different, her skin was pale and smooth and there was just something about her that intrigued Rudy.
The plane was set for take off, they would be in Paris in an hour. Rudy was bored and missed his laptop, so he closed his eyes and tried to rest. The woman next to him pulled out a thick magazine and began to flip through the pages.
The pages rustling caught Rudy’s attention, he opened his eyes a crack and glanced sideways to see what she was reading. It was a glossy, high end gossip magazine, filled with celebrity news and photos.
The woman was concentrating, the article was an interview with Heath Ledger. Rudy happened to like Heath Ledger very much as an actor, but Arnold Schwarzenegger was still Rudy’s all time favorite.
“Do you like Heath Ledger?” The woman asked when she caught Rudy looking at the magazine.
She had an incredibly sweet smile and Rudy felt comfortable talking to her.
“I do like him, I think he works very hard in putting everything he has into a role, I also think a lot of people only pay attention to him because of his looks.” Rudy replied and smiled warmly.
Rudy thought that sounded just like David Beckham, extremely talented, but a lot of his fans didn’t really care about football… Rudy stopped himself, he did not want to think about football right now.
"I heard that he suffered from mental illness though, his role in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ has affected him.” She replied, seeming to be genuine.
It was true that Ledger had thrown himself into the role, he had spent time in a mental hospital in order to play the role of a psychopath.
"I heard the same.” Rudy nodded, he knew how this scenario turned out and it was too sad for him to contemplate.
“I also heard that they still haven’t chosen the leading lady…” The woman gave Rudy a sideways glance.
“I wonder if we can guess who the lucky lady will be!” Rudy gave a small laugh.
“I wonder what made Ledger take this role? The director of the movie isn’t very famous, I thought a star like that would be more likely to sign with someone more well known…” The woman seemed very interested in Rudy’s opinion on the topic.
"Well, I think Ledger hadn’t taken on a role for more than a year, he had been waiting for the right opportunity for him. For me, that shows he is willing to wait for a role that is worthwhile. He is extremely creative and he always seems to embrace his roles completely. ‘The Black Knight Rises’ will become a really popular film… I think.” Rudy replied, hoping he hadn’t given away too much.
The woman thought about what Rudy had said, then turned the page slowly.
“What is your opinion about this guy?” She asked him sweetly.
Rudy recognized the picture immediately;
"James Cameron?" Rudy asked.
“Yes that is James Cameron, what do you think of him?” The woman asked again, a little less sweetly.
