6 Karen cupped her hands around the steaming mug of coffee. She lifted it to her mouth and blew on the liquid, causing it to ripple, before she took a sip. The bitter black liquid scalded her throat as it slipped down, but she still savoured the taste. She had had grown accustomed to drinking her coffee black during her pregnancy. The taste of dairy had made her feel sick during the last six months and, by the time Charlotte had been born, she was used to the taste.
