DOOMSDAY SPIDERS They were called ‘doomsday spiders’ because the few people who survived their bites were plagued by so severe pains and so intense hallucinations as to almost believe to have survived a nuclear catastrophe. The cobwebs were strong and tangible and at times so thick that they gave the idea of white plastic to the touch. They purposefully waited for humans and enjoyed frightening and torturing their prey, but they didn’t always kill them. At the end of the slope, the opening we had found looked excessively bright, as we had been in the dark for a long, long time. Leaving the drain – and the elaborate maze with it – we felt so utterly exhausted that we couldn’t stop our race in time, being the front of the trenches also sloping. We were therefore soon tangled in cobwebs,
