PROLOGUE (THE LAST TIME TOGETHER)
ONE
THE WIND IS COLD Ted's black-colored jacket had just turned away when Gia stepped back after hearing Ted's confession. Gia closed her eyes, as the wind touched her lovely face while her tears were dripping all over it. Then she felt Ted's tight hug.
"This isn't over, Gia," he said as he looked up and gasped for air. "You kept saying that, but all I could think is that you're joking, and all of this is fake. How am I going to endure all this?"
"Stop," Ted said, wiping Gia's tears like a real gentleman. Then he kissed her forehead. "You're joking, right?" Gia said. "No, I'm not."
How can I make this easy for her, Ted thought, still wiping tears dripping down on Gia's face, making it so difficult for him to let go.
Their time together for the entire year makes this "Going Back Home" situation so hard for them both, but Ted needs to do it. Hugging each other is probably the simplest way to ease the pain. It had been their great year for the past 5 years being in a long-distance relationship. And every year it gets sadder for them than the last, sadder and sadder being away from each other.
As if they forgot about Ted's departure, they decided to spend all their time at their favorite place, "The Arcade".
"If you could have anything this day, what would it be?" Gia suddenly asked a question. Ted took a step back and pointed both his arms to Gia, trying to make her smile.
"I am deeply wishing... deeply wishing..."
The thought of leaving flashed into his mind again as he stared at Gia, smiling forcefully.
"I hope you are not leaving."
Gia took a deep breath.
Years ago, she and Ted had been talking since the f*******: app went viral and everyone started using it. Without hesitation, both liked each other so fast and made tons of lists of the things they wanted to do. One morning, Ted told Gia that he was planning to tick one of the things they listed on their bucket list and that was "To see each other."
Soon they learned they were both panicking to see each other soon, and they would have all the time they wanted. In the airport outside, Gia impulsively jumps and shouts Ted's name, while he runs to her and hugs her so tight like there is no tomorrow. Then she took a picture of them together. Gia could still not believe that they both had ticked one of the things they listed on their bucket list.
That lovely man she's been talking to on social media is standing right in front of her, clueless about what things will happen to them. Give her heartache. Go on to become a CEO.
