Oh, no! Not you!
Chapter 1: Did it have to be you?
***
I'm what you might call an average girl only-
"Watch where you're going dork!" The class bullies walk past me after slamming me to the ground. What I was going to say it that... I'm not suppossed to be here, this isn't my world. But yesterday something strange happened and I woke up looking like this, in this story that my little sister seemed to love so much.
The way I'm sure this is a story is because...
"Ooooh? So your mommy packed your lunch huh? How cute, now eat it off the ground. You don't want your mommy to be sad, now do you?" The bullies continued pestering the quiet boy in class, throwing his belongings aroung.
Everything here, is so freaking cliche... everything from the high school, to the way people talk, to the insults they use. It's like I have been transferred into a coming of age book. And it's so unbelivably steryotypical. I can't even begin to explain how annoyed I am.
And that being said, I could just stand aside and let this pass me by, I could just quietly search for a way out of this but...
"What? Are you sad? Are you going to cry?" The bullies continued insessintly.
"Leave him alone." I'd be damned if I let them bother this kid without a reason... even if it's fictional, I still feel bad.
"Oh? Hahaha, seriously? You want to chime in? Are you his little girlfriend or something?" The bully asked and I couldn't help but cringe at the sheer stupidity of this situation.
"She's... not..." The boy said while scrambling to pick up his things off the ground, I guess he really is a push over.
"Do you all really not have anything better to do than to bully him? You're all far too ugly to be acting so damn stuck up, anyways." I couldn't help myself. I had to say it, since... sorry to say but the way these characters are drawn is so... ugh...
"Now you're really in for it..." I could see her anger boiling over almost like she was about to burst a blood vessel. Her lakeys grabbed onto me and the kid on the ground. And then they locked us up in the storage room.
"Now you two have ALL the time in the world to spend with each other. Hope someone finds you on Monday." The bully was ugly but she sure was devious as well.
"I'm sorry..." The boy apologized, I kept calling him a kid cause he seemed younger than me but now I realize he's the same age, just a bit short.
"You have nothing to apologize for, to be honest this is all my fault. I should have just called a teacher or something," I remarked, wondering why do people in books never do that? I guess it doesn't work as a particularly good plot if the teacher just intervenes.
"They wouldn't do anything anyways... I've asked for help before and they never believe me..." The boy seemed upset. There was something about him that tuged at my heartstrings. Although I was never a fan of such books growing up.
"Do you know why they pick on you so much?" I asked, it didn't seem like he stood out all that much.
"Ah... cause... we used to be friends with her but since entering middle school she started becoming distant. I guess it's not cool being friends with a guy like me, so..." He looked entirely disheartened. Tears were welling up in his eyes as he spoke. I felt bad for him but I'm not the hugging type so I just extended my hand and tapped his shoulder.
"Um... I think we could probably get the janitor to unlock the door if we scream a bit..." I focused on getting out of the storage.
"He's off for the day... I know cause usually I eat with him here... but today he's..." The boy looked at the door then back at me. "I'm sorry you have to be stuck with someone like me." He apologized again.
"Enough with that, just... let's figure out how to get out." I picked at the lock for a while. I wish I had skills that were useful for moments like these but in the real world I just worked at a coffee shop as a cashier. So it's not like I picked up anything too useful to use here to get us out. Maybe this is just how the story plays out? No... that wouldn't be interesting now would it? What's the most cliche thing that could happen now?
"Um... I can probably find the extra key..." The boy spoke in a quet voice. Then shuffuled around a bit. "Sometimes the janitor hides an extra one... around here..." He continued looking, but to no avail. "I guess... today he didn't..."
"It's fine, it's not like he could have predicted this would happen, let's just focus on remaining calm and maybe texting someone to help us out." As I said that I noticed the boy was slipping off the chair he had climbed up on to try and search for the key. 'Hey watch out-_!" I screamed but he fell and as I tried to catch him, I fell along with him. Now it was just the two of us on top of each other in an even more cramped than before, space.
"I'm really, really sorry... I didn't mean to fall on you." He apologized profusely but it seemed like the commotion was enough for someone to come over. I thought it was a lucky thing. Even though I ended up in such an awkward position with this guy, I would finally be free...
"Oh... so this is where you were..." However I wasn't as lucky as I imagined myself to be, at that moment the person that unlocked the door was one of our younger teacher, mister Smith. And I felt like my heart fell.
Since I wasn't in a specific book, I assumed the things happening were regular cliches... and I thought I was a side character in this story, but it didn't take me long to realize I was actually the main character...
The accidental fall on top of me, this teacher that's obsessed with me being the one to find us in this locked closet... the worst...
Why did I HAVE TO BE THE PROTAGONIST OF THIS STORY?!
