Chapter 26

1145 Words
Nyx POV It's been two weeks, and it has become a habit to go early in the morning to train. Theo joins in, and so does Luke. Mila has been doing great in classes. Her smile has become contagious. Seeing her making friends her age makes me happy. Being here was definitely not a mistake. Luke and I have become close. With him, I feel safe, but I know that it is just a feeling. I know that the irreversible will happen, and soon, we will be caught in battle again. After our training in the morning, I talk to Theo, who ensured that there is a warrior around Mila during school hours since we didn't know when this attack would happen. As for me, I go to the greenhouse, check on the plants, and then I go help in the kitchen. I want to make myself useful and, at the same time, keep busy. Willow has also kept me company when she is free with Jairus. We have sat down to talk a few times already. A cup of tea is always welcomed, and Jairus has provided me with bags of blood supply. She provided me with a blood bag every five days so that I didn't wait too long. I had to suck it up and get them. I swore to replace each bag. I don't consume much. It honestly doesn't satisfy as much since that time... I have seen and slightly interacted with Caedmon. Being beside him brings feelings that I never expected to have. Not only do I feel hungry even if I've eaten, but my body reacts to the sheer sight of him. I've kept these feelings under wraps until I recently went with Luke to the library in town. Looking around, they have a category on the back that is specifically regarding other types of creatures. I know that there are things that I still have to learn. With that being said, I need to confirm if what I'm feeling has a name. Looking at a book relating to hybrids, I didn't find much. It's mostly history and the challenges that come with it. I live it daily. My strengths and weaknesses are just like any other hybrid. We aren't unstoppable machines. As I looked through different rows in the library, a book caught my attention. It was specifically about vampires. This book spoke about some of the abilities that vampires possess, and then it hit me. It felt like a truck had hit me. My heart was pounding in my chest, I could feel it up to my throat. There was something called a blood link. It is a strong connection to someone you have drunk blood from. Similarly to how wolves find their mates, rather than you controlling it, it chooses for you. I closed the book. My brain felt foggy. It was him, these feelings. It wasn't just a desire because of hunger. All this time, my body knew. The natural instincts had hit even before I realized it. The question now is, does he feel the same way? What can I do now? Caedmon's POV Having Nyx around has me in a better mood than I have been in months. But I feel desperate at this point. It feels like having an itch you can't scratch, no matter how much you try. I have a hard time sleeping, knowing that she is just three rooms away. I desire everything about her, and it is driving me crazy. Luke stayed close to her. He even took her to the library in town a few days ago. Another day at the office, Zach is giving me some budget papers to review. As he is talking, someone knocks at the door. No, not someone, Nyx. I don't know why. She usually avoids me, but she is knocking. Just smelling her at this distance makes me have to adjust my pants even before I tell her to come in. When she enters, she tells me she needs to talk to me privately. I told Zach to give us privacy. Sorry to interrupt you. I needed to talk to you. Of course, how can I help you? I... I don't know how to start. (Caedmon, I think she knows) says Fenrir in my head. I try to keep calm, allowing her to speak. You came in when we were at the cottage and provided us with a place where Mila could be safe and have the life that she deserves as a growing teen, especially around people that are just like her. I have been used to just surviving. It may not be smart when it comes to things about the pack or even the connections you share with them, but my resources were limited, and I never had a wolf as you did. After all, I am a hybrid. And then you came in (Be still my friend, let us wait for confirmation), and it feels like everything changed. She didn't sit. Her hands kept doing mannerisms. It seemed that it was a way to shake the nerves. It's the first time I have seen her acting so frantic. When I was in the room, you touched me, and I felt a warmth that I had not felt before. Then the vase broke, and your blood spilled. That was just enough to make me feel like I was losing control. It was an accident. It has passed. At this point, I stood up from my chair and moved in front of my desk. When I had that first bite, my body felt like it was being set on fire, not in a bad way though. I felt like I couldn't stop drinking. My thought process at that point was that it was just hunger. I didn't know how to feel, and you kept making me uneasy. Coming back here, those feelings didn't change. In fact, they felt stronger, like I missed the taste of you. Going to the library with Luke helped me understand something. Well, it confirmed it for me. There are things that I don't know and others that I'm learning. All I knew at one point in my life was to survive. But that is not the case anymore. Something has happened, and I'm just... Go on. Say it. I've linked with you. I guess linking would be it, right? I don't know what you would specifically call it, but for me, as I've recently learned, it is a blood link. It's not just hunger. It is so much more. It makes me feel like I need you in every sense. My body, the animal within me, knew this before I could even register it. I'm word vomiting here because I don't know if it's the same for you. Do you feel this too?
