Chapter 10

1051 Words
Mila's POV We got in the car. I saw him. Caedmon was his name. He held Nyx close to his chest. I was anxious and couldn't stop fidgeting. I kept rolling my thumbs and couldn't help but to bite my cheeks uncontrolably. This was a luxurious vehicle, black exterior and interior with some red detailing and stitching on the leather seats. The windows were dark and I could look up and see the night sky. Caedmon started asking questions. My gaze switched from Nyx to him as I noticed her breath getting faster. I know that look. She's weak. From my name to where we are from, he kept asking questions, details about us. I needed to answer carefully, but in all honesty I couldn't pin point where exactly we came from. With that being said, I also couldn't tell him that it was a facility that had us captive. They did things to us, and so much to Nyx... There were so many of us. And then, there were not... I couldn't just talk about these experiences, or about the mark that I hate so much. Having a number instead of a name was repulsive to me. But this name? This name is mine and I hold it dearly to my heart, for it was Nyx who gave it to me, and thanks to a book, I gave her hers. I replied as best as I could but acknowledged that there were things I would not answer unless Nyx decided to mention them. I cannot tell her story. He noticed her ear and I didn't know what to do. Fear engulfed me but I kept my composure. I needed to be strong and brave for myself and for Nyx. As he asked about her ear and mark, I stayed quiet and just looked away. It took a while to get to what they called their pack house. Once we stopped, Luke stepped out of the car and extended his hand to me. The others were also out with Caedmon still holding onto Nyx. Her head was resting on his chest and her left arm swayed from side to side as he moved. The place was huge. I don't think I've seen anything like this before. I only imagined these places from books, but seeing it in real life was amazing. The entrance was a double door made out of wood with frosted glass and metal that adorned it. The place was a blend of nature within a darker story. It blended beautifully with the trees, but at the same time, it stood out to me for its dark, almost gothic look. Entering through the doors was just as impressive. I tried to take the large space in but I couldn't help but notice the number of eyes that were on us. I go back to following Caedmon and Nyx. After a few more minutes, we crossed a hallway that gave way to a hospital-looking wing. A doctor immediately walked out and asked Caedmon to put Nyx in the bed. He looked bothered by her state. The doctor asked him to leave and I'm glad he did. I don't think Nyx would be too happy with all of this. The doctor introduces herself as Jairus and another woman named Willow stays with us too. She says they're partners, being that they are both women along with nurses around them, I feel at ease knowing that they will take care of Nyx. The nurses draw blood from Nyx's arm, and place oxygen on her since she started panting again. They started cutting her shirt to place cables on her chest as well. I couldn't bear to see Nyx this way, so I told them to stop. Jairus told me that they couldn't and I yelled out again. I knew what she needed, so, I told them. She needs blood. Jairus looked at me curiously but didn't question it and asked what type of blood Nyx was. I told her that it didn't matter. Jairus looked at Willow and they simply told the nurse to bring a batch of blood. Suspecting something already, Jairus gave Nyx a sedative to help her body relax and then placed an IV for the bag of blood. As the vitals stabilized, doctor Jairus called me to talk in her office. They were both there, Jairus and Willow. They simply stared at me as I looked to my left to keep an eye on Nyx as she was in the room right besides us. I can already assume what you will ask, so yes, Nyx is a hybrid, and no, she is not a threat to you. They started asking questions that yet again I couldn't answer. There are things that even I do not know. I'm only fifteen and Nyx is twenty-one. She has lived through this for longer than I have. They asked about me and I told them that I was not. I am a wolf, just like they are. So they asked the obvious question: are we related? No, we are not. But we have lived for years together. I have seen her and she has seen me. She has protected me through it all. I saw her as a big sister from the moment that she reached out to me. Besides, blood doesn't make a family, and she is mine. After a few other smaller questions, they let me go back to Nyx's side. She has a bit more color. Half of the bag is already done. She'll definitely need another. Food was brought to me here. They brought a few options which were thoughtful. A turkey sandwich, chicken broth, salmon and vegetables, and different drinks for me to choose from. They also brought in a pajama for me. A set of long fluffy pants and a long sleeve shirt, green, solid choice, its one of my favorite colors. I eat, change, and fix my hair. As Nyx sleeps, I can't stop thinking about how she'll react to this place. My hope is that she does in a manageable way. I wrap myself in the fluffy blanket I was given, place the pillow on the edge of the bed where Nyx sleeps, I hold her hand, and I just let sleep take me.
