The Box
Crash! The sound of glass shattering makes the almost 18 year old girl wake from a dead sleep. She sits up in her bed listening quietly waiting to hear more noise from down stairs. There is an unfamiliar voice talking and her parents crying. The curiosity makes her grab her robe and wander down stairs. As she pokes her head around the corner she sees her parents knelt down in a corner of the living room crying with two men standing over them. There is another man standing closer to the doorway where she is standing. The fear enters her body as she realizes that these are bad people and they are hurting her family. The pounding her chest makes her run back up stairs searching for her cell phone. The phone is missing and she can't remember where she put it. She gets angry with herself asking herself why she can't ever remember anything. The sound of feet walking up her bedroom stairs startles her. The closet is right behind her. She quietly tip toes to the door and opens it, kneeling down under her hanging clothes. There is a piece of wood that she never noticed poking out. quickly she pulls it down and discovers there is a hidden area behind her closet. Hearing the steps getting closer she decides to crawl in the space and put the wood back up after her in hopes that the men won't hear her behind the wall. Sitting there quietly she sees a wooden box about the size of her jewelry box with dust on the top of it. She picks the box up very curiously. There are words that have been carved into the top of it reading, for Joney's 18th birthday. The curiosity overwhelming her she attempts to open the box. Trying to open the box she realizes there is a funny looking lock. She gasps... the lock looks just like her amulet her mother gave her. It is the shape of a dogs paw. This was very odd to her because all the other locks she had ever seen had a keyhole. This looked like she had to insert her amulet and push it like a button. Reaching down and grabbing the amulet around her neck it looked like it would fit the lock. She pushed her amulet into the odd looking lock and it clicked open. She grabbed her mouth in disbelief as to what was in the box, and why does it have her name and need her amulet to open it. Lifting the lid of the box she found a few pieces of paper, One was a letter with cursive writing and there were two pictures one looked like her when she was little with light blue eyes, light curly brown hair, and a round face. The other was a lady that looked more like her then her own mother. She also had light blue eyes, curly hair and a round face. She was gorgeous. Underneath the photos was a paw print shape stone. It was beautifully blue and sparkling.
Joney opened up the letter that was laid on top of the stone with the photos. The letter read " My dearest Joney, I am so sorry that I am not here with you on your special day. The 18th birthday is the most special day of a wolf's life. This is the day you meet your wolf side and all your senses change. Now you will be able to find your perfect mate. Your strength will grow, you will become more powerful than you know!" Thinking to herself she had felt different from othersbut her 18th birthday wasn't until tomorrow. Looking down at her watch it was almost her birthday it was 11:46 PM. Just 14 minutes and I will be 18 she thought, but what was this lady talking about my wolf? I'm a wolf? I don't howl at the moon this doesn't make any sense. Remembering that she was still reading the letter she looked back down. " I am sure you are wondering who I am and how I know all this well let me say this first. Your real name is Josaphine Elizabeth Rose, You are daughter of Alpha William Jay Rose
and Luna Sapphire Emitz Rose.
I am your mother. The reason I am not with you is because it has not been safe. I dreaded having to let my friends take you and raise you as their own but I had no other choice. Being a wolf is a very dangerous thing and I did not want you to have to deal with it until you absolutely had to. Now that you are 18 today is the day there is no for getting or changing anything. You are a wolf and daughter of the most powerful Alpha and Luna in the Southern Area.
This makes you a higher target then other wolves. Which is the reason I had to send you away with our human friends. No one would expect us to send you with humans due to them not being able to protect how we could, but this was the safest way to keep you safe. Now that you know what you are and who I am it's time for you to come home so that I may teach what being a wolf means and how to protect before the enemies find you. Below is the address bring this box and
letter with the family stone and they will let you in. I will see you soon my love. Love Luna Sapphire your mother." In such confusion Joney just sits looking at the box shaking her head. The sound of her bedroom door slamming shakes her back to reality. Crawling back to the wall to her closet she hears the men on the other say " The wolf isn't here." She gasps covering her mouth. The letter! They must be talking about me. She stopped crawling till she heard the back door open. After the sound of the door crashing she grabbed the box and pulled the piece of wood down crawling back into her closet shutting the hole back up. Peeking out her closet door making sure no one was in her room she stepped out and brought the box with her. Quietly she put warm clothes on and put extra in a bag along with the box. She heard a sound that sounded like a dog sniffing. Startled, she looked around the corner to see if there was a dog. To her surprise there was no dog. Then suddenly there was a voice Hi my name is Hazel I am your wolf. I have been looking through your mind and understand you just found out about all this. So I'm sure you're confused. Joney screamed in fear. Shhh the bad men are still here! They will hear you. I can smell them. You read the letter every thing in is true you are a wolf and people are looking for you. I need you to grab that bag and crawl out that window. They are wolves also so they will smell us soon in a hurry. Joney, fearing what could happen if she did not do as Hazel said she opened the window and slid quietly down the roof top to the ground. Now run Hazel screamed. I grabbed the bag and took off running as fast as I could running like there
was no other way. I felt my body changing and suddenly I was looking lower on the ground. I could hear Hazel talking but it was different more like I was in Hazel's head. Running we came up to a lake. I could see the reflection of myself, but I wasn't myself. I was a wolf. See told ya, mumbled Hazel. I was very confused. Hazel kept running and running. She told me she knew where my mother was and that's where we were going. I slowly fell asleep and just couldn't believe what was happening.
