When fate brings Alex and Mia together for a steamy one-night stand, they didn’t expect it to turn into something more.

Alex:

I didn’t expect to see her again so when I came across her picture in a file for a job that I didn’t want, I knew I was all in. She will be mine…for now. I will figure out who is out to get her before it’s too late, but in the meantime, she will be in my bed.

Mia:

It was only supposed to be a night of fun but one night with Alex rocked me to the core and scared me to death. So, I ran…I know…you don’t have to say it…I’m a chicken. But I don’t have time for any entanglements. I’m just here to meet my long-lost aunt and get a little closure after the death of my father.

As the stakes get higher, Alex finds himself torn between his loyalty to his found family and his growing feeling for Mia. Can he find a way to come clean and still keep her safe, or will secrets destroy any chance they have at a future together?

Set against the backdrop of a sprawling Texas ranch, this story will keep you on the edge of your seat with its twists and turns, steamy romance, and gripping action. Will Alex and Mia be able to overcome the lies, or will they tear them apart forever?

Chapter 1
Mia “Tell me your name mamita.” This is not the first time he’s asked me this but at this point, it’s more of a flirty game we’ve been playing so I can’t tell him now. I already know his name is Alex since he seems to be well-known around here. “Names don’t matter tonight whiskey.” His brows furrow as he looks down at his drink. “This isn’t whiskey mamita,” he takes a drink and I watch his mouth, momentarily distracted as his tongue swipes his lower lip. He notices and I watch in fascination as his full lips curve up in a slow, sexy smile. “I’m not referring to your drink and I can’t be the first person to call you whiskey.” We’re sitting at a bar in a little town in Texas called Reyo de Sol. Reyo, as the locals call it, is where my aunt lives and, on a whim, I decided to come and meet her for the first time. Since my dad died six months ago, my life has been a whirlwind and I needed a break. That’s why it wasn’t very hard for my best friend Tali to talk me into coming here for a little R&R and to meet the only family member I have left. “I’m sure I’d remember it if they did.” He says, swirling his drink around in the glass. “I find that hard to believe,” I say, and he runs his fingers through his hair in mock frustration. “Mamita, do you always avoid straight answers, or are you just fuckin’ with me?” He has a sexy accent and that combined with his deep, rough voice is enough to make my panties melt. This is a problem. I don’t need distractions and he would definitely be a distraction. That said, it has been a while since I had a good f**k so… I turn to face him, placing both hands on his thighs. “You have the most beautiful whiskey-colored eyes.” He does, and his thick dark lashes make me a little envious. “You think my eyes are beautiful?” He asks, placing his hands on top of mine. He rubs them up and down my arms and I feel a zing of pleasure. I stare into his eyes and get lost in the warm depths. The twin pools of dark amber shimmer with heat and a bit of mischief. It might be because I’ve had a few drinks or because I’m distracted by his hands or because he makes me feel giddy, I speak without filtering my thoughts. “I think you’re beautiful,” His hands flex on my arms and he looks up at me in wonder. The contented fog that I was previously under cleared and I realized what I just said. Shit. s**t. s**t. I let out a nervous laugh and he tilts his head but remains quiet. I try to pull back my hands, but he doesn’t let me go. Instead, he grips them both, pulling them to his mouth to kiss my knuckles. He lets out a deep growl and my n*****s tighten. There is now fire in his eyes, and he leans forward to whisper in my ear. His smell is intoxicating, with subtle notes of musk and citrus and well, man. His lips brush the shell of my ear and I shudder, “The night is young preciosa but later, I’ll show you how your words make me feel.” *** I have a nice buzz going but I’m not drunk. No, I’m overdue for a good time and want to remember everything about tonight. I like what I know about this small town so far. I can’t believe I’ve had a family in Texas for years and didn’t know it. My dad was good at keeping secrets; those secrets drove a wedge between us after my mom died. I shake off those thoughts and tuck them away to contemplate later. I'm here to have fun. There will be plenty of time to mull over my family issues. I finish my drink then grab whiskey’s hand, pulling him back to the dance floor. The DJ has been peppering her set with Dancehall music all night. Murder She Wrote by Chaka Dems and Plies starts, and I whine my hips to the hypnotic Caribbean beat. He watches me for a few seconds, and I turn my back to him in silent invitation. He moves forward, grabs my hips, and molds himself to my back. I can feel the roll of his hips as he takes control of the dance. He rocks us together to the beat and my skin heats. I look up to see Tali grinning at me as she dances between two guys. She’s having a good time, but we always keep an eye on each other. She gives me a thumbs-up and turns her attention to the guy in front of her, wrapping her arms around his neck. I’m glad she came to Texas with me. Meeting my mom’s sister will be less stressful if I don’t have to do it alone. Tali has been my best friend since college, and after all these years we’re more like sisters. Whiskey turns me around and pulls me in close. “What do you want to do tonight mamita?” He asks swaying to the music, his hands on the small of my back. His question catches me off guard and I look up at him. I’m no stranger to random bar hook-ups but generally, at this point in the evening, s*x is pretty much implied. I’ve been sending out ‘f**k me’ signals for most of the night. The erection I feel pressing against my belly is confirmation that at least his d**k is on board. I lean into him, my breasts making contact with his chest. His eyes darken but he just tilts his head, waiting for me to respond. I lean in closer so that my lips are a breath away from his. “You,” I whisper, and I know he feels the word more than hears it. I feel his d**k twitch and he nods. When the song ends, he takes my hand and leads me outside. I look over my shoulder at Tali and she is watching me. She mouths “text me” and I wink at her.
