Chapter 10 The statue of Attila Jószef, one of Hungary’s great poets sat poised on the steps of the Parliament with a hat in his hands and was seemingly lost in reflective thought. It was a short walk of about fifteen minutes from that spot by the Hungarian Parliament building to St. Stephen’s Basilica. Árpád decided to take Lilliana on the more scenic and history-laden route to the basilica that passed through Szabadság Tér—Liberty Square. This was an area of open green spaces and elegant monuments to Hungarian history. It was also filled with mature trees that offered shade and a cool place to attain some relief from the summer heat that was now beginning.
