"My father didn't just sell me; he sold me to a monster."

Twenty-one-year-old Elara Vance is unshifted, broken, and the favorite punching bag of her impoverished pack. When her father’s gambling debts finally catch up to him, he offers her as collateral to the most ruthless syndicate in the shifter underworld: The Morillo Famiglia.

Don Lorenzo "Enzo" Morillo is a pureblood Lycan who rules his empire with ice in his veins and blood on his hands. He came to the packhouse to collect millions, fully intending to put a bullet in the failing Alpha's head. But the moment Enzo’s silver eyes lock onto the bruised, terrified girl offered at his feet, his inner beast goes feral with one single word: Mate.

Thrust into a deadly world of rival syndicates, dark secrets, and a ruthless Don who refuses to let her go, Elara must survive. But what she doesn't know is that Enzo has been watching her from the shadows for years—and the terrifying Lycan Don will slaughter anyone who dares to touch what is his.

Chapter 1: The Debt Collector
The harsh, stiff bristles of the scrub brush bit deep into Elara’s blistered palms, but she didn't dare stop moving. She kept her head bowed, letting the curtain of her dull, unwashed brown hair fall forward to hide her face. More specifically, to hide the mottled, yellowish bruise blooming along her jawline. The packhouse was suffocatingly quiet at this hour. It was a crumbling, dilapidated mansion that smelled of damp wood, cheap beer, and the lingering despair of a dying pack. Her knees ached against the hardwood, but she scrubbed harder, trying to erase a scuff mark near the baseboards. If her father found a single speck of dirt when he woke up from his drunken stupor, the fading bruise on her jaw wouldn't be lonely for long. Being twenty-one and unshifted was a death sentence in the shifter world. To her pack, she wasn't a wolf; she was a dud. A maid. A punching bag for their mounting frustrations. Elara dipped the brush back into the murky bucket of soapy water, letting out a ragged sigh. Then, the prickle started. It began at the base of her neck, a phantom weight settling right between her shoulder blades. She froze, her breath hitching. Slowly, cautiously, she cast a sideways glance toward the massive, grime-streaked windows that looked out into the dense treeline of the pack’s territory. There was nothing there. Just shadows and the swaying branches of old pines. Yet, the sensation remained. It was a strange, heavy warmth that felt entirely out of place in this cold house. It didn't feel like the predatory stare of a hungry rogue. Strangely, it felt like a shield. She had been feeling it for three years—a silent, invisible presence watching over her when she was at her most vulnerable. "I'm losing my mind," she whispered to herself, shaking her head and scrubbing the floorboards again. "Invisible guardians don't exist for broken girls." The thought had barely left her lips when the front doors of the packhouse blew open with a deafening, splintering crack. Elara shrieked, scrambling backward as the heavy oak doors smashed against the plaster walls. Her father, Alpha Arthur Vance, stumbled blindly into the foyer. He wasn't the imposing, arrogant man who had backhanded her yesterday. He was entirely unspooled. He reeked of cheap bourbon, stale sweat, and the sharp, metallic tang of raw terror. His clothes were torn, his eyes wide and darting frantically like a cornered rabbit. "They're here," Arthur gasped, dropping to his hands and knees. His chest heaved as he clawed at the rugs Elara had just cleaned. "Oh Goddess, they're actually here." Before Elara could even open her mouth to ask who was here, the temperature in the room plummeted. It was as if all the oxygen had been instantly sucked out of the foyer. A new scent rolled into the packhouse, so thick, heavy, and violently dominant that it physically knocked Elara backward. It didn't smell like the damp earth and pine of her pack. It smelled of ozone from a lightning storm. Cold, unyielding steel. Dark, rich cedar. It was the scent of pure, unadulterated power. Elara’s lungs seized. Even without a wolf of her own, the primal instincts buried deep in her human DNA screamed at her to submit, to put her throat to the floor and beg for mercy. Shadows began to bleed into the doorway, forming the hulking, broad-shouldered silhouettes of the Morillo Syndicate. They were the apex predators of the underworld, massive Lycans wearing tailored suits that barely contained their lethal muscle. At their center stood Don Lorenzo Morillo. Elara had only ever heard whispered rumors of the Lycan Don. They said he was a god of violence, a monster who ruled the shifter underworld with ice in his veins and blood on his hands. Seeing him in person was terrifying. He was draped in a custom black suit, standing at least six-foot-five, with a jaw carved from granite and eyes as dark and endless as a starless night. He didn't just walk into the room; he consumed it. "Time is up, Arthur," a smooth, deadly voice purred. It came from the man standing at the Don’s right—his Underboss, Matteo. Matteo offered a shark-like smile, adjusting his silk cuffs. "Three million dollars. Payable immediately. Or we start taking it out in pounds of flesh." Arthur sobbed, a pathetic, wet sound that made Elara sick to her stomach. The great Alpha of their pack crawled backward on his knees, putting distance between himself and the syndicate. Then, Arthur’s terrified eyes landed on Elara. "Wait!" Arthur shrieked, scrambling to his feet and lunging for his daughter. Before Elara could react, his thick hands clamped onto her arm, his fingernails digging painfully into her skin. He hauled her to her feet and dragged her forward, throwing her roughly onto the floor directly at the Lycan Don's polished leather shoes. "Take her!" Arthur begged, his voice cracking with desperation. "She’s unshifted! A dud! But she can work! She cleans, she cooks, she does whatever she's told! Take her as collateral! Take her and spare my life!" Elara froze. Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird. Her own father had just sold her into slavery to the most ruthless mafia family on the continent to save his own miserable skin. She braced herself, closing her eyes tight. She expected a bullet. She expected a heavy boot to crush her ribs. Instead, a profound silence fell over the room. The oppressive, terrifying aura in the air suddenly shifted, spiking with a jagged edge of raw electricity. Elara slowly opened her eyes. The towering Don stepped closer. He didn't look at Arthur. He didn't look at Matteo. His dark, endless gaze was locked entirely on the bruised, trembling girl at his feet. Slowly, Lorenzo Morillo crouched down. Up close, his scent was utterly intoxicating, overwhelming her senses until she felt lightheaded. He reached out. His large hand, wrapped in black leather, was surprisingly gentle as he hooked a finger under her chin and tilted her face up to meet his gaze. The moment their eyes locked, the ice in his expression completely shattered. Elara gasped as the Don's irises bled rapidly from a bottomless brown to a terrifying, brilliant, luminescent silver. The beast beneath his skin was rising to the surface, completely unhinged. "Burn the debt," Enzo commanded. His voice was a low, possessive rumble that vibrated violently through the floorboards, sending a shiver straight down Elara’s spine. His silver eyes never left hers. "And put her in my car."
