Chapter 32 – She is my niece

1004 Words
Fee “Let her go Tristen! Hurt her and I will destroy you and your pack.” Larix’s voice split the air as people around me caught a breath in their throats gasping at the threat. Curious to see how Tristen would react I remain still and obedient in his arms. Would he once again give me up to save himself and his pack like with Erica, or would he fight for me. I did not need him too, but what would he do. Tristen’s arms surrounded me, holding me tightly in his arms. I could feel his concern and the protection he was trying to provide, but these people were my family. They would no sooner hurt me, then they would hurt themselves. Turning in his arms, I felt his gaze before I lifted my eyes to meet his own. Lifting my hand to the side of his face I watch as his features visible softened under my touch. Watching his face, I did not want to wait, I did not want to test him. His reaction made my heart feel like it was melting in my chest. “It is okay Tristen, family.” Still not loosening his grip, I placed my hands on his own. Using my fingers he allowed me to pry his fingers off my body. I could feel the uneven pace of his heart, a sense of panic setting into his expression. Reaching up to his face yet again, I pulled him down to mesh my lips against his own softly. Doing the opposite of what I expected, Tristen’s heart rate rose as a growl sounded from behind us. I would know that growl anywhere, just the sound surrounded me with a feeling of warmth. Backing away from Tristen, I kept his eye contact before turning back to Larix. Tristen’s expression had grown unreadable. He was such a large man, a force, but he stood helpless in my wake. It reminded me of the pups back in my pack when they constantly wanted things they could not have and would cry seamlessly for hours. It physically pained me, but I continued walking away from Tristen as Icksy’s eyes continued to follow my body like glue. Unable to help myself, I made my steps quick, exited to make contact once again. Stumbling into his embrace. My face pressed hard against his chest, I inhaled deeply through my nose taking in his scent. He smelt just like my mum, like cinnamon. Hands gripping my forearms, I was pulled slightly back. Larix’s blue eyes mimicking my own stared back at me. “You are so beautiful. I am sorry, I am so sorry. I thought you were …” Swiftly pulling me back to his chest, he wrapped me in his vice grip placing his lips to my head, seemingly unable to finish his sentence. I could feel Tristen growing closer, almost ready to snap, his control cracking. Remembering back to how I felt when Bec got close to him, I knew I needed to retreat. It was becoming quite apparent that he and Icksy did not get on well, even prior to this. Pulling back from Icksy, he did not restrain my movement as I stepped back blindly into the awaiting arms of Tristen. Tristen’s head dipping into my neck, I could sense him scrambling for control. His hands roaming and tightening around me. I tipped my head back to meet his gaze. Looking back to Icksy, I watched his face pale as his eye slightly widened. My words sounded quietly, but I knew he heard me, “My mate.” “God damn it Luke, let me go!” Once again everyone’s attention pulled to my Flower’s heightening voice. Breaking free and heading my direction I could not help but reach for her. In seconds Lilly’s arms were around me over the top of Tristen’s who had refused to leave any more space between us. Fat tears rolled down her face like rain drops as her body quivered. “Sorry, I am so sorry. It was all my fault, I left you there. I… I…” Pulling back her lip trembled pulling downward. “I thought you were dead, i… it was my fault, I left you there.” I could not help but pull a smile, she had not changed at all. Lilly was as Lilly as ever, except for the yelling, that was definitely new. She was always a very quiet person, a very timid person, but she was my Lilly, my best friend, she was my family. Finally having made it to her feet, Erica had a hand rubbing at her neck, a blackened mark already surfacing on her skin as she faced Icksy. “What is going on Larix? You are supposed to be here to get rid of that thing.” With a jerky point of her hand, she indicated to myself before adding. “The council said they would support my claim, that they would make me Luna? It is my right.” A roar sounding from Tristen, Icksy actually seemed a bit unsure, like he was torn over how to respond. After a few moments he appeared to secure his resolve, standing tall and watching her with an expression of stone. “Fiona is my blood, she is my niece and from what I understand, Luna of this pack. You owe her your respect! Bow!” Her eyes widening with rage she turned her gaze on me, a snarl falling from her lips.
